Millions in the United States could become infected with the coronavirus and between 100,000 and 200,000 could die, the U.S. government's top infectious-disease expert warned Sunday.

Pay attention to all of Trump's lies as well as his dishonest feelings and hunches. NYers are:

Zac Petkanas @Zac_Petkanas

BREAKING on @CNN just now: Dr. Anthony Fauci says he believes that @NYGovCuomo needs the 30k ventilators he requested.

This directly contradicts Trump.

Those death rates are about the lowest I've seen. What we are seeing out of S Korea is a death rate of about 1% but out of Italy the death rate is about 5%. And our response so far has been worse than Italy.

So if we figures even a conservative percentage like 2% death rate, and 30 million infected, that comes out to about 600,000 dead.

And, again, based upon our so far horrible national response, and the likely infected being much much higher that 30 million, I think he numbers are almost Trumpian.

First Italy is sitting over 10%. Second there are major differences between Italy and Korea. Italy has seen their hospitals overrun. Which is where we are getting in NYC, NO, Detroit and other places. Plus Korea ran down every case and tested. That is why they are on the downward swing.

It isn't TDS to point out how schitty the response under Trump has been and how his daily press conferences are more reality teevee nonsense from our reality teevee DOTUS.

It wasn't Trump's "idea" to use HC in the treatment of COCID-19. Someone on his coronavirus task force must have told him about the previous and recent studies:

"For HC, two bodies of evidence support its potential in treating Covid-19: in vitro (test tube) studies and initial clinical reports from the field. After the 2002-03 global outbreak of SARS, a coronavirus related to the one that causes Covid-19, an in vitro study conducted by doctors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified chloroquine (a relative of HC) as an attractive option for prevention and treatment. If added before the virus was introduced, the drug was highly effective in preventing cellular infection. Even later application markedly inhibited infection. Another contemporaneous study showed similar results. As for Covid, a Chinese study published March 9 showed HC has excellent in vitro effects. Other recent information suggests potential antiviral mechanisms of HC and chloroquine."

Someone is doing a good job on keeping Trump informed, and Praise the Lord! for once in presidency Trump seems to be listening:

"The bedrock of all infectious medicine, from developing treatments for specific infections to treating individual patients, is in vitro laboratory testing and patient trials. Covid-19 is no exception. Current laboratory data suggest that HC should work.

Clinical information has also emerged from Covid treatment. During the initial Chinese outbreak, Wuhan doctors observed that patients with lupus"a disease for which HC is a common treatment"did not seem to develop Covid-19."

should work
I don't have a WSJ subscription, so I couldn't get details from #44.
No google searches yielded any news on the trials in NY or anywhere else with positive results. The most I've found (dated 3/30/20 AT 4:12 AM EDT) states:

Last week, the authors of a paper published in the Journal of Zhejiang University concluded that hydroxychloroquine is no better a treatment for coronavirus than currently used methods.

Vineet Menachery, Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Texas Medical Branch who was not involved in the research, cautioned to Newsweek last week that the paper involved a small number of participants. And while the patients didn't improve and it doesn't appear to worsen COVID-19, there are concerns about its side effects.

He told Newsweek: "Like the papers to date on hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, there isn't much concrete data."

It goes on and piles on even more - and nothing says it works.

Hi Gal,

This combo has been used in China and other locations. This is not new. The trials in NY were supposedly started about 2-3 weeks ago. We've heard nothing. The link in #44 I can open, but the initial blurb that I can read doesn't say anything, and I don't (and won't) get a subscription to the WSJ. Since you cited it, I was wondering if you could paste the relevant findings, or a summation of any positive results that are being seen. Thanks!
