On March 22, SKY News showed footage of a hospital in Bergamo, Italy, the city that has been hit hardest by COVID-19 in that country. On March 25, CBS News used that same video footage while describing the condtions on the ground in New York City with a headline that read, "America's Epicenter: New York Now Accounts For More Than Half Of New U.S. Cases."

The MSM continues to make a not so strong showing, no wonder polls show their "response" to the pandemic is the worst.

I see that today CBS has apologized for the 'mistake'.

Wow, thank goodness you found this tiny, inconsequential error. What a yuge scoop compared to Trump and the far-right media outright lying and endangering millions.

Awkward!

Anyone that pays close attention must know that the networks are socially distancing their workforce, often with on camera talent working from their homes or in almost deserted studios. Interviews are being done over Skype and other streaming services and the usual technical support is often lacking as everyone is scrambling trying to incorporate technology that wasn't designed for our 4K television world into workable formats.

Often times what the narrator says is on screen isn't on screen or time delays force things out of sync, so I hardly see that juxtaposing b-roll while everyone is jerryrigging on the fly is some scandal worthy of a thread. If this is your main concern right now, your priorities are way out of whack.

CBS apologized and updated the image it will now use.

I find the problem to be that reporters don't report anymore. They can't tell the story of what's happening with words. So the networks will use stock photos/ videos to frame a narrative that create the emotional response they want to push.

Does it look like anyone's main concern? Most of us are under house arrest with a lot of time on our hands. People are going to post things that are either unrelated or tangentially related to CV.

If CBS did nothing wrong, why would they apologize?

Interesting how CBS issued an apology and corrected the error.

While the president says he has no responsibility.

Interesting comparison.

Did you see anyone on this thread say that CBS did "nothing wrong"?

Answer your own question.

Does it look like anyone's main concern?

Did you ignore the word "if"?

Stop trolling, you're terrible at it.

I think this guy was implying that CBS didn't do anything wrong:

Not misleading the public and creating panic should be someone's main concern at CBS. Perhaps they were too busy not covering Trump's daily briefing.

I think this guy was implying that CBS didn't do anything wrong:

Point out in WORDS where I implied that CBS didn't do anything wrong. The paragraphs you posted don't imply in the least that CBS "didn't do anything wrong." You fail at reading comprehension.

Why continue to advertise the fact?

Trump killed 100,000 Americans. CBS mislabeled a video.

Samezees.

You're obviously ignorant how television works. The talent you see on screen has ZERO to do with what video is rolled behind them from the control room, nor are reporters unless they're in self or preproduced segments already recorded.

The wrong footage rolling behind a story happens every day on every network. People make mistakes that aren't endemic of the entire network news organization nor are they usually intentional.

My words tried to convey that rolling the wrong b-roll footage is fairly commonplace, not some wrist-slitting offense. That is not the same as saying that it isn't worthy of an apology if unaware viewers don't realize it. That's precisely why it's usually apologized for the minute the producer or talent realizes that a mistake was made.

Kind of small potatoes and it was corrected/apologized for.

I mean they're storing bodies in refrigerated trailers after wheeling them out of the hospital in a cardboard box.

Clearly we're just peachy keen and a-OK.

In any case, you should know it's not a US hospital by the fact that the staff are wearing proper PPE.

Trump lies about covid and delays response edord kill Americans.

Showing a clip of an Italian hospital dealing with covid, may cause appropriate concern about what is coming to the US, that Trump finally had to admit to

Worst POTUS in history.

No deflection. It was an inconsequential mistake. It wasn't on purpose, and it didn't affect anyone negatively in any way.

Nothing compared to the bs Trump and the right-wing media have been spewing. Downplaying the crisis for over a month, telling people it's only like a flu or cold, accusing doctors and nurses of lying, delaying ventilators and PPE... I could go on and on.

They have blood on their hands, not some five second video clip.
