Boston Globe Editorial Board: Much of the suffering and death coming was preventable. The president has blood on his hands. While the spread of the novel coronavirus has been aggressive around the world, much of the profound impact it will have here in the United States was preventable.

Biden and the Democrats position was to criticize Trump when he shut down air travel from China then Europe and tighten northern and southern border control. So as bad is it is, it could be worse.

You have no way of demonstrating that is true. Meanwhile... in the land of reality... there are miles of recordings with Trumplethinskin mouthing off stupidity for everyone to see.

His reason for closing off borders was to keep refugees from seeking asylum from the devastating suffering because of policies and actions of the Reagan administration.

This is typical though... republicl0wns often blamed Dems "criticism" for there not being any WMDs when Bush was effing things up.

Criticism yields such power over their ability to succeed!

I saw this op-ed a couple weeks ago...

Op-ed: President Trump Is Unfit for This Crisis. Period. (Mrch 9, 2020)
www.nytimes.com

...His narcissism is a grave danger to our health.

The coronavirus is no longer just a slow-moving public health crisis that may soon turn into a rapid-moving one. It's a crisis of transparency. It's a crisis of government legitimacy. So it is in this spirit that we all have to say: enough.

Whose side is the Trump administration on? Based on every public appearance we've seen so far " whether it's from a cabinet member or the director of the Centers for Disease Control or the president himself " the answer is clear: not the public's. President Trump, hellbent on re-election, is focused on massaging numbers and silencing bearers of bad news. That's what autocrats do. And it's endangering lives....

Will blaming Trump for all the death that could have been prevented really change anything or make anyone feel any better? Yeah the guy's a clown, in over his head, trying to -------- his way through the biggest crisis of the last 20 years. So what is the upside of continually focusing all this attention on him? We need to shift focus. Anger and hatred at Trump will not get us anywhere.

To answer your direct question... I doubt if it will make anyone feel better.

To answer your indirect question... In order to solve a problem, you must first identify the problem. Pres Trump's actions and inactions have hurt Americans.

In order for any travel ban to be effective, ALL TRAFFIC FROM EVERYWHERE has to be stopped at the same time! Trump's ban was ineffective because of big, HUGE factors: 1) It didn't stop Americans from returning from hot spots - as though the virus only struck indigenous foreign populations; and 2) Even people from affected countries could still enter America simply by connecting through other nations not on the banned list!

The type of illogic you belch is the very reason Trump's band-aids-instead-of-a-tourniquet response was so feckless and ill thought out.

Problem is for Trump, no matter what the Democrats did he was still President and he didn't do his job. He let down the entire nation, pretended this thread was nothing, actually told us that a "miracle" would take care of it for us. Forget your politics, politics is a hobby we can't afford any more. We can't listen to this President or my Governor any more. They are leading us to death and not just us but our families too.

The ineptitude and ghoulishness of Donald Trump needs to be kept front and center because there is a significant claque of people ready ever to describe the man as both victim and genius.

These people will build the neo-classical marble Trump Memorial in Washington (at public expense) on the bones of 200,000 dead Americans if we let them.

This point is very well taken. How many years has Hitler been dead now? How many Neo-Nazis and assorted other fascists do we still deal with, who say Hitler was right?

One can imagine a time when people like WILLOUGHBY become COVID-19 deniers, and go to enormous lengths to convince us that 100,000 Americans died and not 1,000,000.

They may have forgotten, conveniently, but I haven't. Those of y'all who did the laughing at us terrible liberals need to own your behavior, acknowledge it and apologize for it. What is the point of an apology?

To give the wronged party reason to think that the same mistake will not happen in the future.

These conservatives have made mistake after mistake. They are STILL making mistake after mistake. And it is, and will, cost lives.

Either you can get people to acknowledge their past mistakes and show that they have learned from them so you can ensure the mistake is not repeated. Or you can publicly blame them and attack them, which marginalizes them and allows actual intelligent people who don't continue to make mistakes to have a voice in the decision making process.

If Trump and conservatives had not been held to account, they would still be saying it was no worse than the flu and he would probably still be holding campaign rallies (deaths for the flu this year are still higher than coronavirus deaths, so do you think he would admit how screwed we are if he hadn't been called to account and forced to?).

That is my strategy. What is YOUR strategy to ensure that conservatives don't CONTINUE to screw this up?

OK, MAGAts. So why not also focus on how many people in Chicago are NOT shot to death in a typical weekend?

Nobody is fit for a pandemic.

Some people will die and it is impossible to prevent it from happening.

There is only one place. North Sentinel Island.

Unless a full quarantine went into affect on day 1, full border closure to everyone, regardless on citizenship, the virus was coming in and it was going to spread.

No leader of any country is at fault for these deaths or the spread.

There are people at the beginning of it all that could explain how it started, but they've all gone missing?

#22 | Posted by Petrous at 2020-04-01 12:38 PM | Reply

South Korea and Tiawan did great jobs of slowing covid. All countries, except maybe lying China, have done a better job than the US.

Trump cut the US defenses against pandemic and then denied it was really happening or would be serious until yesterday.

Worst pandemic leader in the history of all pandemic leaders.

Based on the numbers, we might be lucky to have only 250,000 dead.

If this thing kills only 00.7% of the infected, 250,000 dead is what we can expect with only 35 million people being infected.

The infection is likely to top 60-100 million people.

--------.

We could have done a LOT more to prevent the spread and the deaths.

Failure of leadership will lead to a lot more dead in our country.

Trump ignored the warnings. Refused tests from abroad. Refused to order tests at home and barred universities from making them. Refused to order quarantines or even recommend them. Refused to order medical equipment until too late.

Trump killed a lot of people through his negligence.

So fast to blame the president yet so many other leaders failed, too. Congress critters are leaders too.

I dont blame them for the deaths. I dont blame them for the sick. I do blame those that took the doctors that are missing. Those that disclosed it are missing.

Blaming Trump and Congressional leaders that knew about it does nothing.

Question for people who still think Federalism is the best way to fight a global pandemic:

Some laboratories of democracy will handle this better than others.

Any lessons to be learned from that, at the Federal level?

You are right. A lot of conservatives in Congress were ALSO downplaying the potential severity of this pandemic.

But most liberals were NOT. So, for those people who were not Trump sycophants spreading FUD to protect him politically, what do you think they should have done? Give me specifics. They can really only pass laws (unless you think they should have been holding hearings and investigations). So what laws do you think they should have passed to prepare the government? Pass laws OVERRIDING Trump and FORCING him to take it seriously? FORCE the CDC to make tests earlier. FORCE Trump to use the Defense Production Act?

YOU claim that they are at fault. But they can only be held accountable for their actions (or, more common with conservatives in this case, lack of action). So, explain what ACTIONS that you think Congress should have taken that they did not.

Because if you CANNOT name specific actions they should have taken, it becomes obvious that you are just a Trump sycophant deflecting for him refusing to take "personal responsibility" for HIS actions (or lack thereof).

Nice try.

If course the leadership is responsible.

If the leader does nothing the number of dead in that country go up. If the leader takes proper mitigating action the number of deaths go down.

The number of deaths depend directly on what actions are taken by the leaders of each country.

Way to try and deny reality. You have obviously had practice.

Obama. They had it gamed out and handed everything over to Trump who ignored it all, killed it all, and pretended it wasn't happening when it did start happening and finally, finally started to wake up this week.

Clinton would have been on this, of that I have absolutely no doubt. She wasn't exciting, but she is and was damn competent and capable.

"C-c-conservatives" in a nutshell.

Nobody else can compete with their 80-90 level IQ scores so nobody could ever do better.

Here's a hint-"c-c-conservative" "thought" is a millstone around the neck of the world. They lack foresight and thinking beyond any matter that doesn't affect them. That's a mindset that's always doomed to fail in anything that isn't profit driven or is driven by actual concern for fellow human beings.
