Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, March 31, 2020

As lawmakers prepare for another round of fiscal stimulus to address economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested the next package include a retroactive rollback of a tax change that hurt high earners in states like New York and California. A full rollback of the limit on the state and local tax deduction, or SALT, would provide a quick cash infusion in the form of increased tax rebates to an estimated 13 million American households -- nearly all of which earn at least $100,000 a year.

Highlighting one item that seems odd, over a sea of items that help the poor and middle class is classic Trumper/Bernie stuff. Don't be fooled. The SALT cap should rightfully be removed. I don't see why we pay taxes twice on the same money.

"We could reverse that for 2018 and 2019 so that people could refile their taxes" and receive more money back from the government, Ms. Pelosi said in the interview. "They'd have more disposable income, which is the lifeblood of our economy, a consumer economy that we are."

Wow...I don't know what chance this has of passing...probably slim....but I'm good with it.....being a selfish bastard who will benefit.

But....one of the givebacks from the SALT cap was a larger standard deduction, IIRC....what happens to that?

To be clear Pelosi is thinking of most of the home owners in her state (and others frankly). It isn't necessarily the poor but to be able to keep more people from defaulting on loans. Keep in mind just how much higher the cost of living not to mention a house is in California and many areas with high local taxes. Frankly most of Southern California a house will cost you a minimum of 500k and likely a million and up. Given the number I projected I would need to live the same life in Cali I do in Michigan and have the same kind of house... 100k is likely lower end of middle class.

Typical. Balanced budgets with massive State debts is good. The Fed has no balanced budget and carries massive debt bad?

A balanced budget is worthless if your debt isnt paid off.

As for the Fed saying no to the State work around, the Fed didn't say taxpayers couldn't give to the States voluntarily.
Is the only reason to help your community is when its deductible?

Jeff, do you even know who passed the SALT cap? Personally, on this, I completely disagree with Pelosi. Why do we want to do this? The people who receive the tax reduction won't be spending the extra money. We should only cut taxes when the money will be spent. It's like the corporate tax cuts, why would we cut the taxes on profitable corporations? Makes absolutely no sense.
