At least one Albuquerque Police Department officer shot and fatally injured a man after being called to conduct a welfare check in a house east of Downtown on Monday afternoon. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police have not publicly identified him. APD Deputy Chief Harold Medina said that around 1:15 p.m., officers were sent to the 900 block of Edith SE, near Broadway and Coal, because an employer was concerned about an employee and wanted to see if he was OK.

If they shot him dead then he must have been alright when they checked on him.

They were in fear for their lives.

The most terrible thing about a story like this is that we aren't even surprised or outraged. It happens daily, they rarely punish anyone. It's life as we know it in the United States of Guns.

Behind paywall so I googled it. I'm not one to defend police but there appears to be a lot more to this story.

While the call started as a wellness check it turned into an attempt to arrest when Police discovered the employee, Valente Acosta-Busttillo, had a felony warrant from an incident on March 8th in which he is accused of assaulting his neighbor with a hammer.
