A state senator from Georgia who traveled to his Florida beach house to recuperate from a case of Covid-19 has headed home after the local sheriff called him "irresponsible" -- and assigned a police detail to enforce a two-week quarantine. Bruce Thompson, who represents Georgia's 14th state senate district, was hospitalised with symptoms of Covid-19 in mid-March. He spent several days in intensive care, and was at one point unable to breathe unassisted. ... It was after this that Mr Thompson went to his vacation home in Florida's Franklin County, despite restrictions on travel. Local residents, who are on orders to stay at home to help slow the virus's spread, raised the alarm with the authorities when they saw out-of-town visitors arriving in a convoy of three cars.

Shortly after [Franklin County sheriff A.J.] Smith assigned the police watch on the gated residence, Mr Thompson departed. As the Franklin County Sheriff's Office told the paper: "As a result of surveillance on Senator Bruce Thompson's residence on St. George Island, Senator Thompson called Sheriff A.J. Smith to advise he would return to Georgia."

And GA's idiot, lying governor, said he didn't know about asymptomatic transmission, lives 6.5 miles from the CDC.

That's either a lie or an incompetent state team who is supposed to be informing him. That could go either way with these very fine people.

Florida is a destination where folks from all over the nation would like to come to recuperate and, as a native Floridian, I can tell you we are used to being disregarded as important. For my entire life, New Yorkers and folks from Chicago have come here and been rude to us. It used to be a joke among Floridians. It isn't so funny when they are coming here with viruses that can kill us. Stay the hell home. Don't come here we don't want you here. Big companies wanted you here, Disney and Universal. Floridians never wanted you here. This was a beautiful place we all loved but then invaders from the north ruined it. Go the ---- home. Leave us alone. We were fine before you came, we'll be fine after you leave.
3rd generation of Floridian, possible 4th or 5th but I can't document it.

No, there is no denying it. If is a f*****g lie. The Gov. of Georgia is a crook, a liar, he is only governor because he stole an election. We will never pretend he is a legitimate governor.

I think more people took the virus out of Florida than brought it here. Disney and the beaches stayed open a long time after the outbreak picked up speed.

You could be right RCADE but somehow I doubt it. Florida was a destination for vacationers from all over the world. Right now, here in Ft. Lauderdale we have MANY ships begging to come into Port Everglades. Florida exports orange juice but not much else. We import tourists with their diseases.
Miami and Ft. Lauderdale have become hot spots because of that. You live up in Jacksonville, and I have live there, it is a different world from South Florida. We are basically a burrough of NY.
