Did they grind this slowly when Bush cut us a check for $300 during a war?

Trump can't get anything right.

"Some Democrats have already begun calling for a broader investigation into the Trump administration's handling of the crisis so far. Pelosi did not rule out the possibility of launching a backwards-looking investigation similar to the 9/11 Commission but said the priority now is making sure the new federal funds are spent appropriately."

It's so so so sad that we live in a country where people just want to tear other people down all the time based on opinions alone. Partisan hate has become the new -ism. Partyism. Most people in the party not in power are OK with rounding up everyone of the other party and making them wear a patch that they are of that party and most likely would love to put them on trains to secret locations. Hate has blinded so many people that their brains can actually ignore all of the evidence of the last month as if it never happened. All of it is predicated on "We are better than you" and they actually believe it because they know it can't be proven one way or another. Well, that is if you remove common sense from the equation. In a country of 320 million people, the ones who are filled with hate will actually never not hate unless every one of them is cured and given money within a day of hearing about a possible virus that can spread. If that doesn't happen, they whine and cry like babies. I have one for you. All those people in 2009 with pre-existing conditions or who couldn't get healthcare insurance had to wait 5 MONTHS before they could because Dems were sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow in passing the ACA. I mean, Dems must just not care about the people and just want to watch them die. 5 months? It should have been done in 1 week. But noooo, Dems just had to be slow and stupid about it.

See how ridiculous that sounds. Yeah, that's YOU.

"Trump can't get anything right."

So now Trump is single-handedly responsible for delivering every check to every mailbox. As if they completely ignore that anything the government has done in, well, decades that I know of that can be proven, takes a long time to do anything. But yet, let's throw hate around this time because you are partyist and hate anyone with a different opinion than you. What's next, you want to ban those people from public drinking fountains?

It's also so sad that you openly display such an astonishing level of ignorance in misunderstanding why the select committee is being launched. It's about oversight of the hundreds of billions allocated to help struggling Americans, to make sure the money is going where it was legislated to go and that the programs aren't rife with insider dealings, graft, and waste of taxpayers' dollars.

Stop clutching your worthless pearls and taking your imaginary vapors. If and until it's not, a bipartisan committee overseeing the expenditure of ultimately trillions of dollars is responsible government. No one is persecuting anyone.

People are going to start thinking you're evil yourself.

That's what a bipartisan oversight commission would mitigate against.

What's so so so sad is that you either don't get this or pretend not to.

People still don't have direct deposit set up? Good lord maybe if they didn't insist on their mail being delivered by horse and buggy they could get their money quicker.

Yeah. Obama's fault!

I remember when Bush sent us some checks.

Didn't take him 21 weeks. But then again Obama hadn't been President yet.

In fairness, many folks never receive refunds...by design they structure their witholdings so they pay in at least some every year at tax time.

I've known many people over the years who don't have a bank account. A lot of them are afraid of overdraft fees. Some of them have had bank accounts in the past, went negative due to overdrafts, and were then unable to open a new account until the negative balance was corrected but the negative balance was so large they couldn't afford to pay it off. Others have had bad experiences with stolen checks and don't want to deal with the hassle again. I myself didn't have a bank account through half the 90s because a roommate's friend stole some checks and went on a shopping spree at Fred Meyer in Portland and the bank put me through hell to deal with the issue even though the account was closed when the transactions went through. And still others have a run on the banks fear and keep their money hidden at home. It's more common than you think.

20 Weeks is an excessively long time for printed checks. I wonder how many people don't do direct deposit for returns. SSA no longer sends checks and hasn't for some time. Here's the silver lining though. If you are on unemployment you are going to be getting a "bonus" to your unemployment of 600 straight up for 16 weeks after that it goes away.

How to they cash paychecks? Buy stuff online etc? I'm not arguing with you I believe you it just kind of blows my mind in this day and age that people can even get by without one. My employer doesn't even issue paper checks everyone has to set up direct deposit. I haven't set foot in a bank in probably 3 years but I still have an account, I just do everything online now.

People find ways. Poor people in particular cannot afford bank accounts. My company went to direct deposit only a few years ago when we outsourced payroll. If you don't have a bank account, you get issued a pre-paid ---------- card. They load that with your paycheck's earnings. I have to admit I am somewhat surprised as well. I first had Direct Deposit in 2000 and then when I lost it, I was annoyed I had to cash my check.

#25 | Posted by GalaxiePete at 2020-04-03 11:58 AM | Reply

"How to they cash paychecks?"

Check cashing places or they have someone who has a bank account cash it for them.

"Buy stuff online etc?"

They don't.

#26 | Posted by Hagbard_Celine at 2020-04-03 11:59 AM | Reply

#26 I guess that's a choice don't check cashing places take a fee? Not sure I would be ok with giving those -------- a cut of my earnings every week.

#25 Even when I was poor I had a bank account and I wasn't just money is a little tight poor it was skip dinner so the kids can eat and thank god my landlord accepts manual labor in lieu of money poor. It was no power for 3 days because I can't afford to get it turned back on till then poor. So I don't buy the too poor to have a bank account line. If you can scrape together 50 bucks you can open an account. Oh and yeah I forgot the debit card thing. My son works for starbucks and thanks to an incompetent manager it took 3 months to get direct deposit set up for those 3 months he got a visa debit card with his paycheck on there.

#27 | Posted by TaoWarrior at 2020-04-03 12:12 PM | Reply

"Poor people in particular cannot afford bank accounts."

Yeah.

Because a bank account is far more expensive than using a check cashing service.

No doubt there are those who are off the grid...but they're probably avoiding banks because they make too much...not because they make too little.
