The United States recorded nearly 1,500 deaths from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the worst 24-hour death toll globally since the pandemic began. According to figures from Johns Hopkins University, 1,480 deaths were counted between Thursday morning and Friday morning, and the total number of people who have died since the start of the pandemic in the US is now 7,406.

You know what galls?

Trump attempting to hog attention by gravely (and daily) advising how many of us will die.

On 03/23/2020, that's when he began taking this seriously. That was thirteen days ago.

Which is why we are going to be following this same trajectory for probably another week or so. It takes on average a little over three weeks to die from coronavirus after you contract it. So the people dying today (on average) got it over a week before conservatives in government started taking this (even a little) seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if we reach close to 10,000 deaths per day by the end of next week.

Where is congress? We're down to one man running the show. One who doesn't believe in science.

Now we're banning the rest of the world from getting ppe. They'll stop using American ppe and it will harm us in the long term because no business will exist to fill a non-existent market.

We should never forget that he allowed over 2 months to pass before he even realize he is a stupid piece of crap. Now he has and thousands are dying because of his arrogance. Change must come, I just don't really think Joe Biden is up to the task. Against Trump, I'll voted for Biden but surely we could find a better choice. Cuomo? Yes. Biden should step aside for the good of the country. When politicians like him don't they become worthless pieces of crap. Their ambitions should not be allowed to dictate who leads us.

It is ironic that so many of us, both rightwinger and otherwise, have viewed the Covid-19 on this site primarily through the lens of political fall-out, and not human suffering. I realize this is a political site, but it sure does say a lot about what type of people many of us are. The obsession on how this helps/hurts Trump or the political opposition.

Unfortunately for those of us living in this country, life and death very well may be a political issue and how the politics of said issue is handled, played out, and considered moving forward. Especially in an election year, the political fallout may lead to necessary change; change that ideally would (or it is hoped would) lead to a different, more nuanced approach to a crisis in the future.

Hence, human suffering is a political issue in this country. And we must address that issue through the lens of politics as true, significant change with the intent of relieving that human suffering can only come through political discourse and action.

It's a sad state of affairs and I would love to know the thoughts of a philosopher on this topic, but it's the environment we live in. Responsibility for the initial response to this crisis should be leveled upon someone while recognizing the risk that the same accountable party/group will further disrupt the potential for significantly mitigating the consequences associated with the current crisis if action is not taken (i.e., November election).

So, you are saying that it is Pelosi and Biden's responsibility to start making public recommendations? Even if it contradicts Trump's public recommendations (though, that is not hard since his recommendations tend to contradict themselves)?

Maybe everyone should just do as they want and follow whatever recommendations they "feel" conforms to their ideology that day. No need for any central authority to give any sort of uniform recommendations to avoid confusion.

Oh... right. I was being sarcastic, but that is what conservatives are already doing. Hence why our cases and deaths are growing exponentially.

Idiots.

Gawd how the republicans went on and on about Benghazi with four deaths. Was tragic yet completely hypocritical as to why the event happened in the first place. Some hick decides to live stream himself burning a Koran, the Moslems over react in the war zone area that was Syria and attack an embassy that just had it's security funding gutted by the right wing in congress. Then, these cretins in congress launched numerous investigations which went on and on and on and yet, here we are in the middle of the biggest loss of life since World War 2 and all we hear is the wind from the quarter that brought us 9-11, Benghazi and CONVID-19's dismissal as a "hoax". This massive loss of life is on all of you that voted for TRump.

The right wing facilities mass murder with firearms in the hands of crazies and when we wish to stop it with common sense gun control all they can scream back is ,"Not know in the middle of the crises.". Well, here we are again. Their chosen Nero fiddles while our Rome burns and we are supposed to just let it happen? ---- that! TRump needs to resign and bring all of his nasty ass cronies with him. The Speaker of the House needs to take control as the GOP has made this pandemic much much worse with their action recently and in the recent past by gutting the CDC and other fail safes established by Obama to battle these events. Quit TRump!
