Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, April 08, 2020

President Donald Trump's routine, day-to-day mismanagement of the government has left both organizations -- the very entities we tasked as a nation to prevent the next 9/11 -- riddled with vacancies and temporary officials as the novel coronavirus rapidly spread from a small blip in China to a global health and economic catastrophe. In fact, the four top jobs at DHS and ODNI have all been filled with temporary acting officials for literally every day that Covid-19 has been on the world stage. While we often think of those jobs as focused on protecting against terrorism, both agencies have critical public health roles, too; U.S. intelligence spent the winter racing to understand how serious a threat Covid-19 truly was and deciphering the extent of China's cover-up of its epidemic.

Who's instructions was Trump following when he did (does) these things?

I'm sorry. Trump's behavior is just too damned thorough and systematic. That is to say, not like Trump.

The delays in action, the preparedness deconstruction, the continuing roadblocks to effective action.

Donald Trump DEOS NOT love his country. He's after something else.

Related to this, Wisconsin (or worse) is the model for the elections in November.

There is no credible notion that Donald Trump will allow someone else to become President of the United States in 2021.

I'll take Stephen Miller for $100...

Given Black people are dying faster than whites, I see that as a viable theory.

This is why they voted for him.
This is what they wanted him to do.

All that competency by Democrats is an existential threat to the GOP.

So they tore it down.

John Schindler @20committee

Just as with 9/11, intel warnings came direct to POTUS in the PDB, in early JAN. After weeks of intel reporting on the PRC health crisis.

They knew about #COVID19 & how serious it was.

The IC was on the job -- where was the White House?

They can explain away everything except the PDB. Which goes direct to POTUS and a small group of top WH officials.

Don't let Team Trump blame the "Deep State" for their own catastrophic failures with #COVID19.

"Who's instructions was Trump following when he did (does) these things?"

Probably Steven Miller.

If you recall, Miller accompanied Steve Bannon, both of whom were shoehorned into the Trump administration (along with Kelly Ann Conway) by Rebeccah Mercer of Breitbart News. Mercer and her father are well known mega wealthy donners to the Trump administration and carry the big stick. They own him.

(At the time it was reported that Trump had to call Rebeccah Mercer for "permission" before he fired Steve Bannon. Steve Miller was left behind to keep Trump on track.)

Anyway, Mercer's mission statement from the beginning has been to "destroy the establishment" and has vowed that there is no limit on the amount of money it would take. To what avail I don't know, but Trump (and Steve Miller) seem to be on track to carrying out her mission.

If they are going to show up and cover Trump's daily press conferences, some intrepid reporter should ask him about what the PDBs said about the coronavirus:

Intelligence report warned of coronavirus crisis as early as November: Sources

"Analysts concluded it could be a cataclysmic event," a source says.

From that warning in November, the sources described repeated briefings through December for policy-makers and decision-makers across the federal government as well as the National Security Council at the White House. All of that culminated with a detailed explanation of the problem that appeared in the President's Daily Brief of intelligence matters in early January, the sources said. For something to have appeared in the PDB, it would have had to go through weeks of vetting and analysis, according to people who have worked on presidential briefings in both Republican and Democratic administrations.

"The timeline of the intel side of this may be further back than we're discussing," the source said of preliminary reports from Wuhan. "But this was definitely being briefed beginning at the end of November as something the military needed to take a posture on."

Unless the briefer included pictures and references to himself personally, I assume Trump wasn't paying attention. His actions--or lack of them--in the early months of the pandemic seem to indicate as much.

"some intrepid reporter should ask him about what the PDBs said about the coronavirus:"

Oh they try. But that is a "horrid" little question.

And if you ask it then you are publicly demeaned and labeled as "nasty".

You know, Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, was President when the Spanish Flu hit and it killed over 600k (if Google is correct). It's a shame the Dems were so terrible that they wanted all those people to die. There was plenty of notice before it came to the US. Why are Dems OK with this? And this wasn't long after Dems fought to keep slavery.

"Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat"

You know the Deplorables are getting desperate when the deflections go back a century.
