Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

(Y)esterday ... the president denounced mail-in balloting as "horrible" and "corrupt." It was at this point [someone] reminded Trump of the inconvenient detail about his own recent history. Reporters pointed out that Trump has voted by mail, by absentee ballot, in his adopted state of Florida. His response: "Sure, I can vote by mail. Because I'm allowed to ... "

In case this isn't obvious, if a president can cast a ballot by mail because he can't get to his local precinct, there's no reason to stop other Americans from doing the same thing for the same reason.

(T)he stage is set for a larger fight that's almost certain to continue in the coming months. With a vaccine unlikely to arrive before November, states are going to have to grapple with how to administer elections in a way that's fair and safe for the public. Trump is making clear that he and his party will be prioritizing partisan advantages, regardless of the public-health consequences.

The GOP is going to do all that they can to make sure that their voters have convenient access for having their votes counted while throwing up every roadblock, impediment and public lie possible to keep those voters they see as opposing them from being able to do the same.

For the safety of all Americans and for the importance of insuring unfettered access to the electoral process for every registered voter, we are going to have to move the other 75% of American voters (25% of all ballots are already mail-in) to a mail-in ballot process for this November. We cannot let the GOP blatantly try to suppress such efforts instead of championing a sensible, time-proven safe method that encourages more citizens to exercise their rights to vote.

Reporter: You were highly critical of mail in voting
Trump: It's corrupt
Reporter: but you voted by mail in Florida's election last month
Trump: Sure
Reporter: How do you reconcile that?
Trump: Because I'm allowed to

There are two possibilities here: either Trump doesn't understand Florida law and thinks people can only legitimately vote by absentee if they'll be out of town or out of state for work reasons, or he knows very well that's not the case and he's trolling to distract people from other stuff he's doing.

Broward County, FL...

Could you please elucidate us on how you think Broward County is relevant to this thread? Because all I could find from a google search is this debunked fake news...

www.snopes.com

If you wanted a relevant (and actually real) example, then you should be talking about Republicans committing election fraud through absentee ballots in North Carolina's 9th district...

www.npr.org

That is confirmed, and actually resulted in felony charges for the conservative political operative. AND they redid the election because of it.

Conservatives elected an emperor with no brains. He was the best they had. Their best and brightest. A very stable genius (compared to the rest of the conservatives).

Cons are already parsing this by saying that an absentee ballot isn't the same as everyone voting by mail.

Of course, they are. The "Americans Can Accomplish Anything" crowd always changes it's tune when it comes to things such as healthcare coverage for all Americans, easier access to voting, etc. .... pretty much anything that doesn't explicitly benefit the Republican donor class.

Well of course, the greater the turnout, the bluer the vote.

Voting by mail isn't actually up to Trumpm. It's up to every state how they want to run their elections.

Trump could cheerlead on this issue, though.

Instead he is cheerleading in-person voting to spread the virus.

You should know better than that. And you really should know that posting easily disproven stupidity like that just brings disdain from thinking people here. I totally don't agree with your point of view on most things but do yourself a favor and step out of the echo chamber and look things up for yourself.

So we go to mail in voting, all those votes, crowded into one space. Who knows what funny business could happen before they are counted. Think of all the opertunities to find votes in the trunks of Democratic poll workers. Millions of votes, coming in from all over the nation. No way to insure they are all from the actual voter.

A few percent of fraudulent votes would not turn an election, millions would. With most votes now coming from closely watched polling stations fraud can not occur. With 100% of votes floating through the postal system, well, who knows.

JDMETH I hate to break it to you but almost all voting fraud is done by right wingers.
