Reinstate a highly decorated captain who looks out for his ship and crew? Not on Trump's watch!

He would get a hero's welcome back as CO of the TR

they're going to make his court case into a zoom theater prduction.

There will be NO court case, unless Trump orders it, which I wouldn't put it past him. He cancels the Court Martial of someone accused of killing an unarmed prisoner, but he'd be happy to Court Martial a Captain who tried to save the lives of the people under his command.

"Def. Secy Esper says he wants time to consider. Why?"

Same reason Marv Albert had to take a six month vacation from his job after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting Vanessa Perhach. It's better optics to let the controversy die off a little. The shrill harpies will undoubtedly have found some other unpunished sexual assault by a man of power to whine about.

The attention garnered by reinstating Crozier now would be a distraction from the mission.

"Def. Secy Esper says he wants time to consider."

Why? Because he has to ask Trump first. There may be political consequences to Trump's image."

Plus if he makes the decision on his own, right or wrong, he'll get fired anyway.

Defense Secretary now means defense of yourself and your job . . . not the country.

Exactly. And donald would have to reinstate the good Captain personally at one of his press rallies, if not on the ship itself.

I can't see that happening. Trump never apologizes. Reinstating the good Captain would be a form of an apology.

What a sad state of affairs

The smartest thing Trump could do is to shut his mouth and let the Captain return to duty about the Roosevelt. The worst thing Trump can do, for his own popularity, is to put that many on trial or do anything else negative to him. He is a hero to the American people and, more importantly, the members of the U.S. Navy.
Realize, his actions were taken while Trump was pretending the Coronavirus was a Democratic hoax.

He's say he just heard about the whole thing. He could turn it into a "Mission Accomplished" gig. Think anyone could stuff that much blubber into a flightsuit?

From the item below:

President Trump on Saturday came out in support of the Navy's decision to fire Captain Brett Crozier after he raised the alarm about the spread of the coronavirus on his ship, the USS Theodore Roosevelt. "I thought it was inappropriate for the captain of the ship... I agree with their decision [to fire him] 100 percent," Trump said at a briefing by the White House coronavirus task force. The president blasted Crozier's decision to write a letter to Navy leaders pleading for help as men on his ship fell sick with the coronavirus. "I thought it was terrible what he did. To write a letter? This isn't a class on literature," Trump said.

I think the biggest issue that Trump has with Captain Crozier is that he could actually WRITE a letter. Since the introduction of Twitter, I suspect that Trump hasn't written anything longer than 140 characters in any one sitting.

That Daily Beast article is dated April 4, 2020.

The question is will Trump stick to it or bend?

He'll do nothing and then claim that he supported the Captain from the beginning. He'll then use the resignation (AKA firing) of Acting Navy Secretary Modly as evidence that he was not in favor of what happened to Crozier. Of course, there's the written and visual evidence to the contrary, but his 'base' will just claim that that's nothing more than 'fake news'.

All those who stood against him better stand for reinstating him because when Biden becomes President in November the guy could become the Secretary of the Navy.

So they better play nice.

Nope. Not qualified.

Correct. He could become CNO, but may be unprecedented for a non-star to get that gig.

Non-star don't matter. SoN must be a civilian at least 5 years out of service.

My bad, you were referring to CNO.

Yeah. You are right. Wishful thinking on my part again. (Like my imagining Obama as VP) But he (Crozier) could still end up being the boss of the same ones who tried to trumplicate him. That could be awkward.

AT.

(AT = After Trump)

Trump could get some brownie points in the polls if he reinstated Captain Crozier but I think common sense would be out-voted by his ego.
