Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

President Donald Trump recently announced he plans to move forward with delivering the commencement address in-person for this year's West Point graduation ceremony. The announcement stunned school officials and raised concerns about safety, the New York Times reported, given it requires recalling 1,000 cadets to the campus -- located roughly an hour from New York City.

He needs the film footage for his campaign. Maybe he should just fake it and use actors. His 'base' won't know the difference, even when they're told that it was staged.

So these cadets will have to be transported back to the academy.

Quarantined in isolation for 14 days.

Tested for COVID-19

All so Dr. Dotard can have his overly massive ego massaged.

www.businessinsider.com

"President Donald Trump's recent announcement he'd be speaking at West Point's graduation ceremony stunned officials at the school and raised serious concerns about the safety of the 1,000 cadets who are being recalled as a result, The New York Times reported on Friday.

.....

West Point officials were previously unaware Trump planned to move forward with the commencement address, now slated for June 13, which will mark his first graduation speech at the US military academy in New York state.

....

White House officials told the Times that Trump left the decision up to school officials, and that he could potentially reassess the decision to participate closer to the date of the ceremony depending on the state of the coronavirus crisis in the US. "

So, who is lying here?

Or was it just more sarcasm from the joker in chief?

He's desperate for a lot of things. Jonesing is only part of it.

Biden's poll numbers in those coveted battleground states are leaving Trump in the dust.

Actually, I don't look for this to happen. The commencement is in June. Surely West Point already has a speaker lined up.

I didn't forget, PETE. I just couldn't think of a way to work it in. Thanks.

I tried 'Free Bone Spur Exams by Dr. Quack' but these cadets are already enlisted.

Nothing quite like a draft dodger using actual cadets as a captive audience during a pandemic to hold a political rally. I'm sure they can't wait to risk getting Coronavirus to hear Trump whine and cry about the fake news media.

Trump has more risk speaking to them than vice versa. BTW, basic training has not been discontinued. Imagine sharing a room, shower, toilet, mess with 40 other buzz heads. Been there, done that. If one gets a sniffle, we all do. Sometimes it is more serious. Good enough to go to West Point? You do realize that most that go to that institution are sponsored by congressmen. A majority of the graduates will depart the service about one minute after they finish their minimum active duty requirement, 6 years. You can find most of them working for corporate America.

You're avoiding the question based on the notion of minimal risk? Your ass better be posting that nonsense from a street corner holding a "Stay at home = COMMUNISM" sign.

@#23 ... These are all young, physically fit soldiers. The risk is negligible. ...

The risk is not negligible. And the risk is not just to the cadets who travel so that Pres Trump's ego can be stroked.

In the course of traveling, the cadets may be exposed to others who have the virus. They then can spread that newly acquired virus among themselves. Then those cadets can bring the virus back home with them, opening up a new vector for community infection.

The risk is not negligible.

I'm beginning to come to understand that's what Deplorables want.
You want these young healthy men (and women) to spread the virus to the less healthy people in America.
Let's speed up the demise of the old, the sick, the genetically inferior. Even as you yourself check at least two of those check-boxes.

So you don't agree with the policy, you're just going to spend your time attacking those who oppose the policy (which you also oppose), instead of attacking those who enacted the policy (which you oppose.)

I was glad to see the attempts at spacing but if the virus in that group I could see they were still too close because there was so many in such a small area. It would depend on how strong the wind was blowing and the humidity and many other unaccounted for variables.

West Point grads are all at home -scattered across America. They'll all have to fly back to West Point, or drive, or take busses.

AF Academy they stayed, graduated, and had the ceremony and then went home. They did a downsized version immediately, not in May like the usually do so they didn't have to go home and travel back.
