After a half-century of existence, the Libertarian Party (L.P.) this morning wakes up to a situation it has never before experienced -- with a sitting member of Congress proudly waving the Libertarian flag.

Nope. But he can siphon off some gop voters.

3% would be just fine.

Yep, glad he's running. He'll peel off republicans that are tired of Trump's BS.
A win-win situation for everyone except Trumpers:

Has any nation out there implemented a Libertarian form of government? I'd love to see an example of what (alleged) Libertarians are looking for.

Is there even one?

#5 | Posted by JOE at 2020-04-29 01:45 PM | Reply

Yes, America. It began as a highly limited government.

Then it almost immediately went to war with tax protesters but everybody chilled out.

- It began as a highly limited government.

It began as a good ol' boys club... which the southern states were quite surprised to discover was a forever commitment.

Libertarians are people who buh-lieve in the Magic Hand of the Free Market as a good and just infallible god.

Real Libertarians are pretty much a Unicorn/myth. I've run across 2 "real libertarians" in 20 years.
Libertarians = Republicans that smoke pot. It's a convenient label to hide
behind when the stench of the Republican Party gets too strong for their liking.

Saw a lot of (R)tards all of the sudden become "libertarians" after Bush the dumber left office and left us with a recession/depression. We will see the same phenomenon happen again after Orange Adolf loses the election in November.

It's not every day someone brings up the Articles of Confederation!
The fact that it didn't work exemplifies why Libertarianism doesn't work.

- By that logic

The basic tenants of libertarianism is what I refereed. No need for you to feel so defensive.

Unless, of course, the 100 Signs were all you.

By the way, if you want to return to the original US government power level, you have to give up your guns. The 2nd Amendment would no longer apply to the States and they could do whatever they wanted.

Nailed. Post of the year.
Most "libertarians" I've run across are balding incels with graying ponytails living in their parents basement and the only books they've read are Ayn Rand's propaganda of BS. They like her, are good
At cashing government checks though.

Anarcho Capitalism? Too old for that. Classic Liberalism. Card carrying Democrat wondering what happened to the wonderful deregulating party of the Carter Era, before Reagan put government on steroids.

Silly extremist. I'll settle going for back to a power level where this guy, the one that wasn't sure if people inject bleach or not, maybe doesn't have the power to compel covid infect meat processors back to work.

"I'll settle going for back to a power level."

Have you settled on a strategy to get back there, in terms of which lever you pull on Nov 3, 2020?

I was for Biden before all of you johnny-come-latelys decided to settle on him. Amash is a treat but he won't pull more than 3-4%.

I'd argue they are worse. They are even less self aware than your garden variety (R)tard.

Monson,

In my opinion Libertarians are better because they are much more willing to consider cutting the defense budget, ending the "War" on drugs, stopping foreign interventionism, protecting personal liberties, and some other things. They also aren't in the pocket of the religious right. But, I'm not a "fan", either. Their economic theology sucks, but much of the Republican Party has already absorbed that.

#23 he will always be Creepy Joe to me. Not so creepy Bernies ideas seem palatable, a wonderfully centrist choice. Too bad my parties talk of reducing presidential power wont survive us winning the election.

#26 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2020-04-30 07:54 AM | Reply

Libertarians get a lot of grief, much of it deserved however even more than Democrats right now libertarians are and always have been very fractured. If you get three libertarians in a room you'll end up with four opinions on what it means to be a libertarian.

So while plenty fit corky and monsons description plenty of us do not.

#27 | Posted by TaoWarrior at 2020-04-30 12:03 PM | Reply

Libertarian are no better than conspiracy theorists.

It's a victim mentality.

Always looking for reasons to blame others for their failures in life.

It's the political equivalent of being an able-bodied adult but still refusing to get a job.

No he won't. Ventura doesn't have that "pop" anymore.
He always threatens to run and it's always when it's too late.
4 years ago was his opportunity, he missed it.
