On Tuesday when a reporter asked in an East Room event whether the U.S. would surpass 5 million coronavirus tests per day, the president said that's coming "very soon." But on Wednesday, the president claimed he never said that, blaming a "media trap."

To repeat: Donald Trump is and has been experiencing a series of small strokes.

He may yet just drop dead.

What a loss.

I can't understand why his staff even lets him out of the basement.

It is impossible to be trapped into being competent, Donald.

Is 5 million tests a day another arbitrary "must have" that the DNC/CPC can whine about, like a few weeks ago we needed a million more hospital beds a hundred thousand more ventilators?

Yeah, we be whiners, asking for the best rather than what Donald gives us.

The more testing, the more people will live.

Idiot.

Yeah, that's probably it. Donald likes, very much likes, to say things that make him look the Big Man in the moment.

Followed by: "the president claimed he never said that".

It's past time for a new english word that describes the process of backtracking false statements. Submit your candidates here.

I'll start.

Unlying.

"Is 5 million tests a day another arbitrary "must have" that the DNC/CPC can whine about,"

It is what Donald Trump said moron, then he lied and claimed he never said it. Only goobers like you give him a pass for his lies.

Destatementizing.

Arbitrary number for purposes of whining, got it. Without 5 million tests we're all going to die!

As usual, you missed/ignored the point. Go back to sleep.

But enough about Trump lying for his own comfort.

The point being made (of course) is that trump was lying or talking out his ass about five-million tests, and is immediately lying/ass-talking about having said it at all.

I'll be glad when Biden is president and you'll start taking these things seriously again.

The DNC/CPC had nothing to do with that number.
Nor did anyone say "a million more hospital beds a hundred thousand more ventilators." That is hyperbole.

Where that number came from was in the full question the reporter asked, and in the article:

A Harvard University study recently projected that the nation had to be able "to deliver 5 million tests per day by early June to deliver a safe social reopening," and further, that it would need to reach 20 million a day by the end of July to "fully remobilize the economy." Even that number, the study said, "may not be high enough to protect public health."

It was just as arbitrary when Trump said it. Now Visitor whines that its arbitrary when we just remind him that Trump lied when he said it.

Not an arbitrary number.

And the actual numbers from the study that was cited were 5-25 million tests a day needed to get back to any semblance of normal.

Yeah, you guys do really need to get your stories and lies better coordinated. The whole house of Trumpy cards is danger of collapsing at any moment.

Anyone else think it's funny that we need five million test a day, but it's also going to zero?

Trump is the one putting the number out there because he can't help himself from making grandiose promises he knows he can't keep.

But yes, increased testing is a must if we're going to open things up as widely as politicians seem to be eager to. Far more testing than we have now.

Righties really have gone beyond full blown stupid to maintain support for Trump.

As long as there are accusations of violating personal rights flying around lets violate some. Anybody who voted for Trump should lose their right to vote. You're clearly far far FAR too stupid to be trusted with such a responsibility.

Jesus, Visitor. That's the best you can do? I know you guys are desperate for excuses to shift the blame away from a president who fails at something every hour, but this is embarrassing.

I would have thought that a man with a "particular set of skills" would be too essential saving us from the pandemic to waste time posting ad hominems.
