Pompeo is an admitted liar and has not given the public or Congress a single reason to trust a word that comes out of his mouth.

" I was the CIA director, we lied, we cheated, we stole. That's, it was like, we had entire training courses." Mike Pompeo April 2019

He lied about the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. He lied when he said he had no idea about the foundation for the IG's whistleblower report regarding Trump's call with Zelensky even though he was on the call. He lied when he denied that Michael McKinley never discussed the White House's treatment of Marie Yovanovitch with him. He lied about his interview with Mary Louise Kelly. Unless Pompeo and Trump can provide some independently verifiable evidence then there no reason to believe either of them because they have demonstrated their willingness to lie about anything and everything and then media should stress that point anytime Pompeo makes a statement about any matter. They should literally lead their reports with US Sec. of State and notorious liar Mike Pompeo...

@#2 ... Blame China?

Must be election season. ...

My guess would be that the Trump Campaign sees a significant weakness in Mr Biden's prior actions towards and comments about China.

In order to make it easier to exploit that supposed weakness, the Trump Campaign needs to have more people view China as some sort of evil menace.

Enter Pres Trump.

Pres Trump, once again, looks to be using taxpayer-funded government agencies to further his re-election campaign.

Lies and conspiracy theories to try and deflect blame.

There's ENORMOUS EVIDENCE that you can't trust anything you hear from the trump administration. If Germany says it came from a lab, I'd believe it.

"My guess would be that the Trump Campaign sees a significant weakness in Mr Biden's prior actions towards and comments about China."

My guess as well.

I've been wondering when Trump was going to pull out the big gun (Pompeo) to distract and deceive.

Does this mean that Trump isn't going to have all his campaign crap made in China?
Didn't think so.

Or is it just another GOP lie to justify sacrificing the poor to defend the rich.

"Or is it just another GOP lie to justify sacrificing the poor to defend the rich."

Think bigger!

Pompeo was pulled out as a propaganda tool to shift the blame for Trump's many failures to China, which they probably know is going to be one of Biden's key campaign attacks.

Later Trump can pull up Pompeo's "significant evidence" as a counter attack. (without mentioning that this "significant evidence" was totally fabricated to correspond with Trump's own deceit.)

So why not listen to a honest and factual summery of what China has done? www.youtube.com The CCP is no ones friend, especially if you are Chinese. They knew they had an epidemic, their solution? Send thousands of workers to Europe and America to make it a pandemic.

We're well aware of Chy-Nuh's lies and failure. I think you assume we believe them.

We don't.

We just don't think focusing on them solves the problems we're dealing with now. Problems that have stemmed from Trump's incompetent "response".

No, stupid.

He IS a Xenophobic Racist. Stopping flights from China didn't make him one.

But only an idiotic xenophobic racist would stop flights from China ONLY for Chinese people and pretend its going to stop the spread of a virus already here and infecting the rest of the world.

And only a COMPLETE moron would not understand this.

#23 | Posted by Sycophant at 2020-05-05 11:10 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 2

I do believe it's possible that the virus accidentally escaped the lab in Wuhan. Scientists were researching coronaviruses there. In good faith, I might add, with the cooperation of the US. I also don't think China was shooting straight with either its own people or the rest of the world about the danger in the beginning. The CCP scandalously treated Dr. Li Wenliang, the ophthalmologist who first spoke up about an unusual rash of respiratory infections, like a criminal rather than the brave whistleblower he was.

By mid-January, however, with the cat out of the bag, China knew it had no choice but to warn the international community. That is when the Trump administration picked up the ball. And promptly fumbled.

So it's conceivable that the Trump administration is correct regarding a lab mishap, although I have great skepticism about anything this administration says, especially Trump and Pompeo. Either way, the administration is not absolved of fault for its horribly mismanaged response.

I think it's important for Americans to recognize the possibility of grievous errors in judgment by the leaders of both nations. Both countries acted similarly in trying to downplay the risks, as authoritarian regimes tend to do, in order to avoid panic so their economies could keep cranking and the political damage would be contained. Both miscalculated. As usual, the coverup is worse than the crime.

#24 | Posted by cbob at 2020-05-05 11:19 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 2

One more thing: China apologized to Dr. Li's family in March. Trump, of course, has never admitted his administration's shortcomings in any way.

Because he only stopped flights from China as if only Chinese people had it.

It was a shortsighted, predictable action that had ZERO effect.

What do you mean both ways? We can't think the Trump administration is racist liars as well as a bunch of incompetents?

Trump didn't stop flights from China. Major US carriers took it upon themselves to suspend service between US and China and only after the pilots union started suing them. What the White House did was bar non-US residents (unless they were from one of the countries on the exception list) who had been in China during a 2 week period from entering the US. Americans continued to have free passage but I guess if you have a racist world view like the Trump administration then maybe you though a US passport protected you from the virus.

The only ones dumb enough to believe China's lies are you, Trump, and other conservatives.

Now you are shocked... SHOCKED!!!... to find out that China lied. And think that the fact they told lies like they always do somehow absolves you and the rest of the conservatives of all the deaths you caused in the US.

This is why conservatives should not be elected to positions of responsibility. Because they are dumb enough to believe the lies of countries like China.

Don't worry. We will elect Democrats in November. Then the adults will clean up your messes (the predictable cycle... conservatives get elected and break things, then liberals get elected and fix them, while the petulant conservatives complain that liberals aren't fixing them fast enough), because liberals actually understand that you CAN'T believe something just because China or North Korea or Russia said it was true.

Does anything China did in the interest of its National Security justify Trumpy's completely incompetent handling of a pandemic that he knew was coming?

No.

What a coincidence.

The city we know was the springboard for this virus and gee whizz there just happens to be a lab in that city that studies that very virus.

Hmm..lets see. Nahhh

They couldn't be related.

Did China hide how deadly it is or is it no worse than the flu?

I can't see how it can be both simultaneously.

Mrs,

It's my guess in the early stages no one really knew for sure.

Really, I don't think we even know yet what we're dealing with.

Until there is an actual vaccine, I'd say we're still figuring it out.

I know this much.

We're going to live with it in the meantime and hope for the best.

This fall kids will be going back to school and for some it will be a death sentence.

It's one or the other.

Either they knew how dangerous it was and didn't tell us OR it's no more dangerous than the flu.

It can't be both.

#36 | Posted by MrSilenceDogood at 2020-05-05 09:54 PM | Reply

I mean, either the WHO was involved in a conspiracy with the Chinese government or there is nothing to worry about and the whole "pandemic" is no worse than the time you got the shhts from taco bell.

Which is it?

Mrs,

"It can't be both."

It can be neither of your assertions.

The city we know was the springboard for this virus and gee whizz there just happens to be a lab in that city that studies that very virus.

There are 2 labs and China's equivalent of a CDC research facility there. The CCDC is near the wet market, the level 4 lab is 17 miles away, and the level 2 is ~5 miles away. Nothing escaped from the level 2 because no work is done there involving this, and nothing escaped the level 4 lab because the safeguards are incredibly stringent due to what they do there. That leaves the CCDC research facility, where they actually have lousy protocols and PPE use when they go collect virus from bats and things.

Did this come from the CCDC? That is way more likely than any other scenario, along with the Chinese being horribly embarrassed by it, and the Mayor of Wuhan tried to cover it up. That is if that is what happened.

And what's different about that than Trump's non-stop denial, and how it was going to zero, and nothing to worry about -------- and lies?

What's different in Trump's "winding down" the task force and sacrificing all of us, calling us "warriors" for the economy, and that some of us aren't "going to do so well?" Doing all that and we still can't test like he lied to us about months ago?

My guess is you haven't a clue.

The President was clearly warned. He clearly ignored the warnings.

Because he like you think he knows better than professionals who have studied viruses and pandemics and epidemiology their entire careers.

You think your ignorance of the subject is just as valid as actual knowledge of professionals.

Got it.
