U.S. deaths from the new coronavirus topped 70,000, as states weighed warnings about possible surges in cases when restrictions lift, and the Trump administration discussed phasing out the White House coronavirus task force.

There needs to be * next to the number 70,000. That is the 'official' count. We all know the actual number is much, much higher.

I don't see how any decent American can not help but feel sickened by the way this death toll has been treated like a political football by our elected leaders, starting at the very top.

That's OK. The GOP/Trump will just insist on moving the decimal point to the the left a few places. Math is just a liberal science anyway.

How long ago was it that our president, the one with the very big brain who amazes everyone at the CDC because he "just gets it" said we were going to top out at 50,000?

I feel like it wasn't much over a week or so.

I don't think it's unbelievable. Sociopaths think like that ~ while demanding every possible amenity for themselves.

Dead people can't vote and they cost a lot of money when they're alive. It's a sociopath's nature to consider them a liability.

Until someone can change space and time, nobody can disagree with the fact that the number could be 10 times as large without Trump. Or it could be 10 times smaller with someone else. It's a virus without herd immunity or vaccine. You can't estimate anything or draw any conclusions. Especially since it is up to the people to actually do the right thing.

"We all know the actual number is much, much higher."

Considering all evidence points to the numbers being smaller and many media outlets, including both Liberal and Conservative, have already reported as such...you are wrong. Your hate won't let you see past that. When both sides are posting articles that agree with each other, making an outlandish statement to the contrary is usually a really dumb thing to do.

This is the future, the very near future. Trump is going to try to wriggle out from under his responsibility for the COVID calamity by gas-lighting the country about how many people are dead from it.

The bottom line (HUMTAKE) is that we should have done at least as well with COVID as the freaking South Koreans.

#43 - the end of that article shows his manipulative lying nature. He focuses on those that have given so much, says people haven't treated the our heroes "properly."

This is his way of stealing the valor of their actions. This is his way of tying himself to their sacrifice. He then says they've haven't been treated properly. He sees himself as not being treated properly and is using them as a substitution for him. Tying himself to our nurses, doctors, police, military, etc. shouldn't be permitted. He should be called out for it.

"Not me. The Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA, the medical people, the police, the nurses. Everybody. Even the doctors. They haven't been treated properly," he said. "The job they've done is a miracle."

Who hasn't treated them properly, Trump?

You and your followers. Those that refuse to wear masks. Those that spread disease, scream about how onerous it is to stay home as much as possible. Those that bring guns, confederate flags, and nooses to demonstrate against those that are doing their best to save lives. You, Trump and the people you incite to demonstrate are the people that aren't treating them properly.

Not us. Not the majority of this Nation,

What a wing ding.

Many can and will. Hillary would have already practiced Obama's plan and would have responded quickly and appropriately according to the plan that was already developed in place and the number would have been 100 times less. Social distancing would nor be divisive. We would already have tests available everywhere. Food would be plentiful and it would not be mourning in America.

Assuming you deplorables didn't try and sabotage and undermine her agenda as you tried with Obama.

You're siting "evidence" that was been thoroughly kicked around, thrown in the trash, pulled out and then kicked around some more. You need to update your talking points.

Fact of the matter is, even IF we took those poor studies as true, you're still only talking about about 5-10% (IIRC) of the population having been infected.

You seem to think those studies suggested we were over some major obstacle or threshold but, even if they were true, they don't support that rosy of a conclusion.
