"what appears to have been a catastrophically conceived bid to overthrow Maduro by sneaking into the South American country in a fleet of battered fishing boats"

Why is it that Americans think they have some God given right to mess in the affairs of other nations? What gives us the right to sanction other nations? Why shouldn't Americans have the right to travel to Cuba if they want to?

It comes from merging "Manifest Destiny" with the "Monroe Doctrine":

Hell, if we wanted to do the Pay of Pigs.20. There are about 150 thousand military aged men in Columbia, Guyana, and Brazil. Most of them would join up in a New York minute. There are thousands in Mexico and the United States that would be easy to recruit, organize, and train. We might already be doing so. SF could be training them right now. They are pretty good at keeping a low profile. Generally, SF can do the training, but they can't send them across the border without congressional approval. The money is already available. Columbia is getting billions from us and supporting a minimum of 300,000 refugees is not cheep. You will know it is on when the Navy parks a carrier group on their door step. Many of the officers in the Venezuelan Army were trained in the United States, the ones I knew were not there for their political connections, they were bright professional individuals that were exemplary soldiers. We already have a large pool of officers we know of that could lead an invasion, why would we send two individuals, so incompetent they were caught, so ignorant, they did not have any idea of the security of their oppression. Sorry, this is a couple of idiots that dared to do something stupid and got into serious trouble. I guess he was doing his part to keep the People's Republic of Austin weird. No senior commander in any functional organization I have ever dwelt with would have sent these two morons to do something this hare brained.

It's part and parcel of the mindset that thinks having the Second Amendment is a good idea.

Guns are a reality and banning them is unrealistic. Controlling them, on the other hand, is very sensible, no less so than controlling dispensation of prescription medications or issuance of driver's licenses.

If you don't agree, it's because you are worried your sociopathic tendencies will disqualify you from ownership of feeling like a man, and thinking your guns will let you take over a country some day.

Why do the Venezuelan leadership believe that they can cause over two million refugees to flood into their neighbor's countries causing a humanitarian crisis across the north of the continent?
If you don't agree, it's because you are worried your sociopathic tendencies will disqualify you from ownership of feeling like a man? Isn't it paranoid to worry about your neighbor's owning a firearms or several firearms? No it is not like a driver's license, there is no guarantee in the bill of rights to drive, there is one that gives the people the right to be armed. Controlling them with a license would only prevent the most vulnerable from becoming armed. The rich will always be armed, protected with firearms and hirelings that know how to use them.

I agree, both countries have at times been reprehensible with regards to how their actions impact others. It's not an uncommon event for countries to act poorly towards their neighbors.

You'd know better than me. Your life's work was being such a hireling, to the point it disabled you.
So are you happy about that, then? Or just resigned to your fate?
