The United States comprises 4-5% of the world's population, yet we make up 28.2% of worldwide deaths from Covid-19.

We also have 33% of the world's reported cases of infection.

Nothing this Administration is doing/has done in any way has been effective in protecting American society. Our continuing response is by far the worst in the world.

Trump has made the conscious decision to kill more of us as one perceived means of winning re-election.

Yes, it's crazy. So is he.

God, do you remember when the Right went on and on about Obama's failure to stop that oil leak in the Gulf?

Good times.

On today's Throw Back Thursday, we go back to the month of February and this gem:

On February 26, President Trump boasted that the coronavirus was about to disappear altogether from the United States. "You have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero," he insisted.

Those numbers seemed astounding, so I dig into them. Here's what i found...

World population: 7,782,800,000
US population: 331,002,651 (4.25%)

World COVID-19 cases: 3,870,300
US COVID-19 cases: 1,270,769 (33.8%)

World COVID-19 deaths: 267,717
US COVID-19 deaths: 75,534 (28.2%)

Already over 76,000 and not even half of today's (1253 and counting) reporting is in yet. We could see 80,000 by Saturday.

I'm just surprised this wasn't titled "Trump Kills 75,000"

No one could see this coming and now "Darwinism" is kicking in and all 'ya all are surprised.

What is wrong with "you people?"

Who is surprised?

If you are surprised by anything Trumpy does to justify his criminal incompetence then you haven't been paying attention.

Nothing trump does surprises me anymore.

I feel like there is nothing we can do to stop Trump from his criminal negligence but hunker down until November.

How many lives would have been saved had Trumpy not been all Trumpy about the pandemic? He ignored all cdc advice and every day he refused to act increased the death toll. The fact that the cdc is not out front and center during a freakin pandemic is criminal.

I am sure there will be a calculation on the total number of dead that trump is responsible for somewhere.

What is wrong with "you people?"

The United States has a 35 TIMES HIGHER per capita death tally than does South Korea.

35 times.

One day in early March South Korea had 28 total deaths and the US had 5.

In two months the totals are now South Korea 256 deaths; and the US 76,928. No other nation has as many deaths per capita as does the US and we've had 1/3 of all reported cases and 28.2% of all global deaths.

You tell me how Trump's doing as it regards keeping Americans safe compared to every other nation on the planet - where Darwinism operates on the same equal footing. Aren't Americans supposed to be exceptional? Then why are we LAST in keeping our citizens from catching the infection and dying?

#11 | Posted by tonyroma at 2020-05-07 11:23 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

Perspective:

South Korea has had 256 deaths due to COVID-19 with a population of 15.5 million.
The U.S. now has 76,513 deaths due to COVID-19 with a population of 327 million.

South Korea had 4 new cases yesterday.
The U.S. had 24,572 new cases yesterday.

That means that had we adopted South Korea's methods of dealing with this we might be at 5,400 deaths instead of 76,513.
That means that had we adopted South Korea's methods of dealing with this we might be at 84 new cases instead of 24,572.

That's what a proper Government response can do versus an incompetent, head-up-its-a**, lying, bury the CDC report, Trump government has and is doing.

Granted, most of this can be blamed on nothing but the pure incompetence of Donald J. But there's another part of me that feels like we're in the middle of the world's strangest coverup.

So much of what Trump has done ~ or hasn't done ~ is so weird and even detrimental to his own re-election, that it practically demands another eplanation.

Or maybe everybody is right. He's just drunk with power and it's driven him insane.

So much of what Trump has done ~ or hasn't done ~ is so weird and even detrimental to his own re-election, that it practically demands another explanation.

No, there's only one explanation and it's been the same driving force of EVERY decision and action that Trump makes and takes: It's all about HIM and how he perceives it affects his political fortunes and reelection.

He won't publicly wear a mask because he believes that Democrats will use the photos against him in advertisements. He doesn't care that his example will lead more people to catch the virus and some to die. His perception of his own image is far more important than public safety if it serves his reelection.

Trump doesn't want testing because testing will make his "numbers" go up and that's "bad" for him regardless that the nation continues to wallow along in an untenable limbo of sickness and death, traumatizing thousands of healthcare providers trapped in an unending cycle of PTSD-inducing dread, allowing the virus free reign to replicate among vulnerable hosts all across America because his economy is more important than illness and fatalities.

Trump only lives and breaths to serve Trump, and everyone and everything including this coronavirus must bend to his will and whims because that is how his version of the universe operates. That explains Trump.

The average age of the world's population is much younger then the US. How reliable are the reports of world wide deaths? Most European countries with nationalized healthcare systems have higher death rates then the US. This is just more lies, da** lies, and statistics.

#11 - Trump, actually being racist gets to exploit Darwin. Look at the largest % of American citizens being killed - the dependent elderly, anyone with common preconditions, persons of color and those pesky native Americas, always trying to maintain their tribal lands, culture and history. It's win-win for his base and compromisers.

@#8 ... No one could see this coming and now "Darwinism" is kicking in and all 'ya all are surprised. ...

Pres Trump was getting briefings on this at the beginning of the year. He could have, and should have saw, it coming.

Yet he decided to, at worst, ignore it or, at best, significantly downplay it.

So, when you say, "what is wrong with 'you people' I can only presume that you are referring to Pres Trump and those in his administration who allowed the virus to overwhelm the United States.

How 'bout...

Pres Trump, in his ignorance, was treating the virus as a political enemy and not a health enemy. He thought he could tweet it away with his usual threats and happy talk.

Better?

79,373 Dead.

We're at 80k.

100k is right around the corner.

Will 100k dead Americans be enough for Trumpublicans to care more about Americans than protecting Trump?
