Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The U.S. economy shed a record 20.5 million jobs in April as the unemployment rate skyrocketed to 14.7% -- more than quadrupling from the rate seen before the coronavirus outbreak -- according to government data released Friday.

We all know that the unemployment numbers are far higher than that article states.

Ok. So the blame for being the first goes to China. And they need to be held accountable for looking after China first. Good luck with that.

The credit for the extra thousands of dead Americans goes to Trumpy. We also credit Trumpy for his incompetence and criminal negligence. So no blame. But he gets lots and lots of credit for his corruption and monumental ignorance. we really give him lots of credit (no blame here) for his tremendous partisan hate and division.

10s of thousands of dead Americans really appreciate his efforts during this Pandemic and they would surely credit him too. If they had lived.

Ah ha! So that's why Trump sent China nearly 18 tons of PPE's and ventillators out of America's Strategis Warehouse last February so he could put America behind the eightball to combat the pandemic.

By your logic, Trump was helping China by making America weaker.

There's enough blame to go around.

We had our first confirmed case on the same day as South Korea. Compare their numbers to ours. The U.S. could have prevented this pandemic from becoming a major outbreak that crushed the economy. Instead of going on a full offensive against coronavirus in February, when experts were sounding the alarm, we spent months acting like it would never come here.

As if the GOP wasn't destroying our country, morally, economically and philosophically. If the Democrats weren't attacking the GOP 24/7 I wouldn't be a Democrat. Republicans = Enemies of America; starting with Nixon telling us about his secret plan to get us out of Vietnam which was an absolute lie to Reagan colluding with Iranians to hold American hostages until after the election, to Bush 1 who was behind Iran Contra, to Bush 2 who lied us into war in Iraq to Trump....who is now responsible for over 75,000 American lives lost due to his trying to pretend this Pandemic was a Democratic hoax.

All Democrats should attack the GOP, and its members every day, all day, all year. They need to be permanently driven out of our political life.

No... the real blame belongs to you, Trump, and other conservatives for being stupid enough to think that China would tell us the truth. China always puts themself first. They have no problem with lying. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together (which obviously EXCLUDES you, Trump, and the rest of the conservatives) already KNEW that.

See... the smart people knew that they should have people in place to in other countries to be able to hear about these things as they happened.

www.reuters.com

The dumb people, like you, Trump, and other conservatives, decided to cut their funding MONTHS before this outbreak occurred.

This is why we should not elect conservatives to positions of power. Because they are stupid enough to say things like "Nobody knew that healthcare could be this complicated" and "Nobody could have predicted that China would lie about things that threaten their control (like an epidemic) within their own borders".

I am not trying to shame you for being stupid. You really can't help that. What I am going to shame you for is for putting OTHER stupid people in positions of power. Trump, and most other conservatives, are vastly unqualified to be the President of the United States. I don't care if they are someone that you "would want to have a beer with" or you like them because you think they are an "alpha male", or are just jealous because they get to screw porn stars while you are stuck with your right hand. Those are childish reasons to decide to vote for someone. If you can't be an adult and actually vote for someone who is qualified for the job, then just don't vote.

I don't say this often but Boaz might be right.

I propose that the first thing we do is to pass a Constitutional amendment that creates a new branch of government. This branch will be responsible for executing the laws of our country. The head of this branch could preside over all federal military, intelligence and public health services to help protect us when others won't do the job for us. This person would be like a commander or maybe a chief over those agencies. They would hold the ultimate responsible and would be expected to be on constant vigil for the next threat since it is now, for the first time ever in history, clear that we can no longer rely on foreign nations to always act in the best interest of the USA.

I can't believe that someone didn't think of this sooner. Too bad we don't have a person in a job like that already to take on such a huge responsibility.

You don't know if it was intentional or accidental and neither do I but I do know why we had an agency designed to detect and react to any Pandemic threat. Trump defunded that agency and fired the scientists who worked there. He is responsible for those actions which did leave our country open to this Pandemic and cost us, so far, 75,000 American lives with no end in sight. To somehow ignore the blame Trump deserves for this is the most bizarrely partisan stance I have ever seen anyone take in my life. Shameful.

Snopes pointed out that Trump did not call the coronavirus a hoax. Just that he called the response and warnings that it was very serious a hoax.

But, I am pretty sure Danni just said that he called "it" a hoax. What was her "it"? I don't see anywhere where she specifically said that Trump called the coronavirus a hoax.

If you are going to semantically split hairs, then you might want to actually look at the comment that you are splitting hairs over. Though, you are just regurgitating talking points, so it is not surprising that you are out of your league to begin with.

And the other point is that, like you, most conservatives are too stupid to discriminate between those split hairs anyway. So, regardless of what was actually said, most would hear that "it" was a Democratic Hoax and their simple little minds would assume that "it" was the coronavirus (just like yours did). So those idiots would hear their dear leader telling them that the virus was a democratic hoax (regardless of whether that is what he actually said) and believe that to be the gospel truth. But I guess that is a little off the subject.

Your source doesn't say Danni is wrong.

At a February 28, 2020 rally, Trump claimed "[t]his is their new hoax."

He didn't say what the hoax was at the rally. But he was talking about criticism of his administration at the time for not doing enough to stop Coronavirus from becoming a full blown pandemic emergency in the US.

Trump claimed we only had 15 cases "Because of the fact that we went early..." And he claimed it was no worse than the flu. This is all from the rally.

So while Trump didn't claim Coronavirus was a Hoax itself and didn't actually exist, he insisted that part of the Hoax was the idea that Coronavirus was going to come here and be a serious pandemic after his administration had done such a "good job"...literally like Danni is responding to.

By the way, this is from your own Snopes article.

Bottom Line: Trump claimed the danger of Coronavirus coming to the US as a pandemic and killing a large number of people was part of a Democratic Hoax to criticize his administration for not taking the virus seriously.

Danni,

I'm not defending Trump exactly but I am going to say working in accounting gives me a different perspective.

I saw early on just how much this is going to disrupt lives and businesses and the domino affect it will have on everyone.

And I'm sure Trump did too.

Shutting down the world of commerce on something new that we weren't sure how effective China would be at containing it is not to be taken lightly.

What an awful delima.

A few hundred thousand lives or the total disruption and likely financial ruin of millions and millions of working families who will most likely never recover. The emotional and physical toll on society will certainly be devastating. We're not just talking about rich people or 401Ks.

Even now today we have the same delima regarding attempting to restart the economy.

The longer we wait, the deeper hole we'll have to come back out of.

What an awful awful situation.

Personally I believed before the virus our economy was in a precarious position.

The stock market is all out of proportion to the rest of the economy. Governments and individuals are deep in debt.

That doesn't make a good Balance Sheet.

And the rich and their crimes against humanity. They should be ashamed but actually no one has any shame anymore about much of anything.

We might just be past the tipping point in many ways.

Hang on for a bumpy ride.

You understand that justified criticism such as why did the administration block the purchase of tests from overseas while they delayed approved trusted US labs from creating and using their own and why has the administration refused to lift tariffs on medical supply imports making it more expensive and more difficult for healthcare providers to source them and why is the President advising Americans to use unapproved and dangerous medications is a far cry from the President claiming it's China's fault when his own public health advisors and intelligence services have publicly stated they do not believe that to be the case?

You say you saw early on how the virus had potential for tremendous disruption. You then just to talk of shutdowns. There is a middle ground in there such as some of those criticisms that I mentioned above. Imagine if some of those actions which were being requested by healthcare providers as early as January, and in the case of tariffs even before this current virus existed, were implemented when they were requested instead of delaying. Had the White House allowed hospitals such as the one I work for to use the tests that we already had developed by February we could have been 2 months ahead with our testing from where we currently stand. We would have known the virus was already spreading when Trump said it would soon be down to zero. The country would have ended up in far better position and we might have avoided nationwide shutdowns.

Eff yes. I got out yesterday, and will be on the sidelines for next 6 months, with few exceptions.

I've decided I can live with missing out on big gains, but I can't live with absorbing big losses. And these bankruptcies are just going to keep going: department stores, restaurants, bars, office space, arenas, entertainment venues...every place whose business model thrives on "packing them in", be it workers or patrons, is out of business until a vaccine can be found. Meanwhile, supply chains will be broken left and right, as we're starting to see with meats. This is just the beginning of what promises to be a very ugly depression.

Trump doesn't deserve all the blame, but first and foremost his messaging was - and continues to be - horrid.

He does deserve the blame for leaving the stockpile empty 75% into his first term, and for bungling new testing needs, which was on his administration.

And finally, telling states they were on their own to get supplies, then confiscating supplies to renew the stockpile...........

In regards to calling COVID19 a hoax, he didn't do that. But what did the people at his rally think he was referring to? Esp when you consider what his messaging was at his daily pressers in front of the WH..........Trump has always resists giving in when he thinks he is right.
