President Donald Trump declared Friday he's in no hurry for Congress to pass more stimulus measures to help the economy, hours after the Labor Department announced an unprecedented 20 million jobs were lost in April. "We're in no rush," Trump said while meeting with about two dozen House Republicans, who spent an hour taking turns complimenting and congratulating the president for his response to the coronavirus outbreak that's cratered the economy.

... we want to do what's right for the country. ...

By that Pres Trump means, ~we want to do what's right for Pres Trump's re-election.~

Pres Trump probably wants to wait until we get closer to Election Day before he trots out approval to another stimulus bill.

Bingo.

That in addition to his usual sadism.

Do Republicans really think that licking Pres Trump's boots at this time is a successful path forward for the Country?

He's going to let it fester, wait until there is violence in the streets then declare Martial Law. He sees how bad he's polling EVERYWHERE including red states like TX and AZ. He is headed for an epic electoral defeat and knows the only way he stop it is to kill the post office, tell his people everything is okay so they feel free to vote and if all else fails roll the tanks onto the streets in cities like Detroit and Milwaukee to stop Dems from voting.

@#6 ... He is headed for an epic electoral defeat ...

I am not convinced of that.

At this point, I am looking at Pres Trump being re-elected. 60% probability is my current feel.

Yes, things look very grim at the moment.

But the purpose of campaigning is to change how things look. Emphasis upon "look" and notice that I do not say "are." That, in and of itself, is the critical part of politics. The fantasy of how things looks, not how they are.

The Trump campaign is looking to change the focus from the virus crisis and the economy and the personalities of Trump and Biden. (if I may be so daring to drop their respective titles, this is a gloves-off battle)

That leaves the summer of 2020 as a Cuisinart of chopping down the opponent personally.

It is going to be worse, oh so very much worse, than the summer of 2016.

I fear for how the Country will look in December 2020 and beyond.... (save that line and feed it back to be, please. Really. Save it and feed it back to me.)

What if he loses the popular vote by 90% but still wins the electoral college?

Would he still be considered the president?

Just wonderin'...

"What if he loses the popular vote by 90% but still wins the electoral college?"

Mathmatically impossible.

"Pres Trump probably wants to wait until we get closer to Election Day before he trots out approval to another stimulus bill."

A stimulous bill so full of fat for their 1%ers that they can make Pelosi look like the bad guy for not passing it.

That's how things usually work. I hope she beats McConnell to the P.R. punch.

Most of the chaos in the WH is attributed to Trump's ineptitude and management style. Has anyone looked beyond ineptitude and thought that this was part of a plan? After all, didn't Putin and his oligarchs come to power amidst a lot of chaos and confusion?

Trump's management style is fear.

Trump's management style is fear.

Fear and surprise are his management styles. The two things his management style has going for it are fear and surprise and ruthless efficiency ... His *three* weapons are fear, and surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Campaign.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again.

NOBODY expects the Trump Presidency! Amongst his management styles are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Campaign, and nice red hats - Oh damn!

"Fear and surprise are his management styles."

Dude, he's a reality TV personality...what do you expect?

DO you think a Kardashian or Honey Boo Boo's mom would have done a better job? They have most of the same qualifications as trump.

30 million people are currently laid off, and those numbers will only continue to grow.

The extra $600 a week unemployment ends July 31st. When that extra $600 a week unemployment goes away, there will be tens of millions of people who can't make their rent or mortgage payments without foregoing food and other necessities.

The pandemic response by the WH has been awful. We don't have enough tests, contact tracing, and other measures that are absolutely necessary to make a safe return to a semi-normal life. As a result, COVID-19 cases will continue to grow, with the worst ahead of us. Increased social interaction will result in increased transmission and rising number of cases, so attempts to reopen the economy will mean more cases and further shutdowns.

When people start feeling the real hurt this pandemic is causing, they'll reflect on how little concern Trump showed for their health and economic well being. He who was born with a silver spoon. The sinking of the Titanic was what led to changes in the UK as average Brits saw how the lives of the wealthy class were considered important and theirs were not. The House of Lords lost the iron grip and the House of Commons gained power and the lives of average Brits began to improve.

This pandemic will make the distinction between the privileged and everyone else razor sharp. Average Americans won't forget who failed them and thought his own reelection (OPEN THE ECONOMY!) was more important than their very lives.
