Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, May 10, 2020

In a week when the novel coronavirus ravaged new communities across the country and the number of dead soared past 78,000, President Trump and his advisers shifted from hour-by-hour crisis management to what they characterize as a long-term strategy aimed at reviving the decimated economy and preparing for additional outbreaks this fall.

In Zeal to Urge U.S. Reopening, Pence Sets Virus Worries Aside

Pence's trip [to Iowa] was intended to signal that Americans should consider resuming work and worship, and feel confident in their food supply, even though the largely rural state, population 3.1 million, has had more cases of the disease than South Korea and its 51 million people.

Everywhere he went in Iowa, Pence projected relentless optimism. Polls show that Republicans are less concerned about the outbreak than Democrats and less likely to engage in recommended social distancing practices, including wearing masks in public.

"Some of Trump's advisers described the president as glum and shell-shocked by his declining popularity"

Note: Donald Trump actually thinks there was a time hew was actually popular.

Also Note: He's not glum about Americans dying.

This is good news. The lock-down is stupid. Glad people are starting to wake up.

"He (Trump) also has been fretting about the possibility that a bad outbreak of the virus this fall could damage his standing in the November election".

Does this make any sense? If that's what he's concerned about then why is he setting things up for one?

Except that it's ridiculously easy to reduce your exposure to COVID to near zero. And that's if you're an obese 90 year old diabetic with high blood pressure. The vast majority of people needn't even bother with prevention.

Oh do share.

Trump and our Government's response under him are beyond dangerous and reckless. State government here isn't stepping in. There's no enforcement. The plan to reopen and the guidance is locked up in the CDC. This is beyond stupid.

For example, I just ordered food, went to pick it up, and I walked in and there were 6 employees, none wearing masks, hovering over my food, laughing and talking. One saw me, quickly put a mask on and asked to help me. I said I placed an order, and she said my name, and I said "Yes." She said it would be a few more minutes - and I said "No, that's OK. I appreciate you putting on a mask when I same up to the register, however no one is wearing a mask, and my food hasn't been protected, so I'd like a refund of this order to my credit card. Thank you."

The manager took over and didn't even bother wearing a mask while interacting with me, but I supposedly got my credit back.

I won't be going back to that restaurant again, not any time soon for sure, and likely never. If they aren't taking this serious, and they clearly know what they should be doing since they did have masks, then I don't trust them with food safety, either.

If they had CDC guidance on how to safely reopen, maybe this wouldn't have happened. Asking everyone to make it up as we go is a disaster.

...And the families of the dead doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers? Also, supermarket cashiers?

Can you name another disease breakout since 1918 where we literally had bodies piling up faster than the morgues and mortuaries could handle it? That required converting convention centers and sports stadiums to hospitals? When, exactly, did that happen before?

Unless you can show that this happens every year during flu season, STFU.

MB loves him some trolling. He's full of ------ about 90% of the time. Too many bombs dropped on Innocents has warped his morals and sense of reality. It's too bad but that's the only way he can live with his ongoing evil actions without joining his many comrades who have already snuffed themselves.

Wrong.

N95 masks work great at stopping the virus from spreading through the air.

99.99% of people don't have N95 masks. They have cloth masks that are barely better than no mask at all because the virus can exist in both droplets and aerosol form. The cloth masks do very little for the aerosol form.

And it isn't like most people are changing their masks and washing them constantly.

In addition, the virus can be on your hands, clothing, etc. from when you are either not wearing a mask or from wearing a non-N95 mask. Which means you can spread it that way.

And so many people aren't wearing masks at all.

So the idea that people can be absolutely protected is ridiculous.

We all know what MADBOMBER would be typing if this happened under Obama's watch. His only concern is fluffing Trump and Republicans, regardless of how inept anyone with an IQ over 100 could recognize if they weren't more interested in protecting Trump from the rightful scorn he deserves for letting us get to this point ... and even worse ones we'll reach.

We're 5% of the world's population and have 33% of the world's COVID-19 cases. America does. America!

BTW:

Obama Prepared for a Potential Pandemic. Trump Gutted His Work.

In December 2014, then-President Barack Obama warned that the United States needed to prepare for an upcoming pandemic.

In a speech to members of the National Institutes of Health"which came only a short time after the Ebola outbreak had threatened to spread worldwide"Obama emphasized the importance of building a public health infrastructure to combat the next pandemic.

"There may and likely will come a time in which we have both an airborne disease that is deadly," Obama said. "And in order for us to deal with that effectively, we have to put in place an infrastructure"not just here at home, but globally"that allows us to see it quickly, isolate it quickly, respond to it quickly, so that if and when a new strain of flu like the Spanish flu crops up five years from now or a decade from now, we've made the investment and we're further along to be able to catch it."

And Trump has the unbridled gall to try to blame this on Obama.

That only pertains to what you're inhaling.

The point of everybody wearing masks is that they catch what you exhale. And it's that reduction in aerosols floating around the environment that's the goal of the mask guidelines.

Our messaging is all over the board.

Which is the problem. We have met the enemy and it is us. And the virus is loving it. The virus thinks stupid Americans are very tasty!

80,000 winners.

So far.

"So supposing we hit the body with a tremendous " whether it's ultraviolet or just a very powerful light " and I think you said that hasn't been checked because of the testing," Trump said, speaking to Bryan during the briefing. "And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you're going to test that, too."
