Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, May 14, 2020

This week Donald Trump settled on a new (reopening conspiracy theory): Officials who are reluctant to open too quickly say they're trying to save lives, but it's really just an elaborate election scheme ... "because it'll hurt me ... hurt me in the election." What's disappointing, however, is the degree to which other Republicans, some of whom really ought to know better, are following Trump's lead on this.

Admin's note: Participants in this discussion must follow the site's moderation policy. Profanity will be filtered. Abusive conduct is not allowed.

If anything, being forced to re-open too early will help Dems. It's always easier being on the side that didn't get their way. They can say the grass is greener on the other side.

For good proof, in 2016, voters who hated both Trump and Clinton went heavily for Trump.
This year, the polls are saying the opposite. Voters who hate both Trump and Biden are leaning heavily to Biden.

Watch for the Wisconsin governor's approval to go up. With the Republican Wisconsin Supreme Court shooting down the stay at home order and the Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature refusing to do anything, the Dems can blame the upcoming spike in cases and deaths on Republicans. And Republicans can't really offer any excuses.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) told Fox News on Wednesday that he "smells the stench of politics" in the decision-making of Democratic governors who have resisted reopening their states before coronavirus guidelines say it's safe to do so. Echoing other Republicans who have advanced baseless conspiracy theories, Scott said the governors were acting in order to influence "election results" and not out of concern for public health and safety.

During a debate on the Senate floor yesterday over CDC reopening guidelines, Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) reportedly suggested that policymakers shouldn't "let the CDC shutter the economy," adding that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and his party "do not want to reopen the economy."

In other words, we've reached the point at which the president and some of his GOP allies genuinely expect people to believe that rascally Democrats could reopen their states, but they're deliberately choosing not to as part of a dastardly electoral scheme. Sure, it may look like they're trying to save lives through mitigation efforts, but that's just what they want you to think.

86,244 Americans have lost their lives connected to the coronavirus pandemic as I write this post. Trump and his GOP sycophants want us to ignore the sacrifice of lives for the sake of trying to restart an economy that no longer exists as it did 90 days ago.

I'm tired of arguing. Let those who want to roll the dice go ahead and throw all-in, take the chance that the virus won't affect you or your family, or even if it does, believe that you'll survive with little aftereffects. Based on every public poll taken so far I feel safe in saying that the above view is a minority one, and that many of those champing at the bit to reopen are going to find that they will not have enough customers to survive profitably because even in the land of milk and honey, life is more important than dollars.

So instead of bringing Americans together in an all-out effort to mitigate and stop the spread of CV, we have a President bent upon dealing with the virus as a political instead of a health issue. And just like his political opponents, concern for the virus primarily exists as a vehicle to harm Trump personally.

As others have said repeatedly, how many people have to suffer and die for the sake of Trump's ignorance and narcissism? Click on the link again in the first sentence. Chances are the total has probably gone up again. If not, it soon will.

So there are 173 days until the election.

Averaging 2,000 dead per day, that's another 346,000 dead Americans by election day.

Even averaging only 1,000 dead per day, that's another 173,000 dead Americans by election day.

The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances.
The United States has more deaths than all but NINE COUNTRIES individually have cases of infections.

Restated: The United States has more deaths from coronavirus than 204 other individual countries and territories have cases of infections.

In no reality in the universe is this an acceptable outcome based on how almost every other nation on Earth has dealt with this pandemic and protected their citizens.

... because it'll hurt me ...

Good grief, when is Pres Trump going to stop playing the victim card?

He is The President of the United States.

Why is he always whining that we are so vulnerable?

There's already tourists here on the streets of New Orleans.

No one is getting near them but they're here just the same.

Heard a couple of brain washed loons
regurgitating Trump and Faux News conspiracy
B.S. the other night at the bar here in WV
(where some bars have started to reopen)...
They truly sounded brainwashed zombies.
Poor SOB's. Together as a group I don't think
they had enough brain cells to rub together to
start a fire, even if their lives depended on it...

Trump/Putin knows they will lose the election which is why the President is intentionally mis-managing the national emergency-in-progress pandemic.

Winning, more fabulous winning. So much winning that I think the whole nation may be sick unto death of so much WINNING!! The Trumpites can die. But it will be smiling because they won again.

The Republicans and Trump are hiding one fact from all of us. They have had access to the best doctors and scientists, they know exactly what is in store for us....deaths in numbers we can't even imagine. They are using this time to accumulate more wealth than we can even visualize so that they can go hide out in sanctuary places like islands off of the coast, where everyone is tested, and wait for the virus to kill as many of us as it will. Our government is basically telling us, we're all on our own. They aren't going to help us, protect us or even care for us when death approaches us. Possibly there is nothing they can do to defend us but we should make sure that those who govern us have to live here with us and enjoy the same fate as the rest of us. If they go hide out on private islands, as they are doing right now, we should invade those islands. We should make sure their lives are no more secure than our own. That is the only way they will actually want to do anything to help us.

"Luxury bunkers and private islands " how the rich are self-isolating from the coronavirus"

"While most of us will have to settle for self-isolation in our own home or apartment, the rich are hunkering down in state-of-the-art bunkers and fleeing to private islands to escape the coronavirus.

Rising S Company, which manufactures bunkers and bomb shelters, has seen business increase fourfold when compared to the same period last year, according to CEO Clyde Scott. erage of cost of the models that clients were currently looking at was $150,000."

I remember when Bush the Younger's unemployment rates became Obama's problem.

Trumps unemployment rate will soon become Biden's problem.

Republicans cry about how the government doesn't work then when they get elected they prove it. Then Democrats have to spend their entire time at bat cleaning up Teapublicans messes.

Except by the time Joe Biden gets into office this time the cupboards really will be bare. And the treasury looted.

And there will be hundreds of thousands of dead Americans to bury.

Yep, that's right. Trump is claiming officials are trying to hurt him in the election by... following the Trump admin's own guidelines.

Only in Trump world.

Democrats message to never Trumpers must also condem those Republicans that enabled him.

As I've said before, Joe Biden is going to need a very big broom. Trump's deceit has infiltrated every facet of government we know, State and Federal, from top to bottom.

He's going to have to start rebuilding from scratch ~~ just like Obama had to do.

As an aside, there's something we haven't talked about yet and that's the transition from one administration to another.

I have a feeling it's going to be a horror show.

Those Republicans that enable Trump will be on the down ticket with Trump. Any who slip through the cracks will get the message when they find themselves in the minority party. That will be the condemnation.

This scenario of a president - any president in the history of the country - purposely defining one-half to two-thirds of its citizens as the bad guys would have been unthinkable to me before 2016. And his party says diddly squat in response. Trumpism's intentional, perpetual conflict was already going on long before coronavirus, but considering the crisis that we're in now, it borders on criminal.

I had plenty of issues with other presidents during my lifetime, but I don't recall anyone who spent their days, as Trump does, mocking, goading, intimidating and inventing lies about anyone who disagreed with them...and plotting vengeance against them.

Think of Trump as a highly contagious disease . . . and then treat him like one in November.

We've had a cure for Trump's disease for a number of years. We just have to use it. VOTE THE BUM OUT.

Let's hope it's that simple. As I see it, Biden has to win big to counter what you know will be continued attempts to interfere with the election and/or suppress Democratic voters.
