Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, May 14, 2020

Three years ago, American intelligence unanimously concluded that Russia's interference in the 2016 election had been designed, in part, to damage Hillary Clinton. But Trump has never accepted this finding, as it is woven into the narrative of his corrupt (if not provably criminal) relationship with Moscow. Now that Trump has installed political loyalist Rick Grenell as director of National Intelligence, they are trying to undo that finding.

Last night, Fox News reporter Ed Henry excitedly reported to Tucker Carlson that Grenell has produced documents questioning the conclusion Russia opposed Clinton at all. Trump cites that "report" in a new interview with Fox's Maria Bartiromo.

"Now it's all come out that actually they wanted Hillary Clinton " you saw that one came out yesterday " they wanted Hillary Clinton to win," Trump declared. "Nobody's been tougher " you can speak to Putin or anybody else " nobody has been tougher on Russian than I have. They wanted Hillary Clinton to win."

There is almost no Trumpian lie too outrageous for the faithful to accept. Russia didn't even want Trump to win. They were trying to help Hillary! That's why they hacked her emails " they were trying to help her win. Just ask Putin! Good ol' Vlad, he's a straight shooter, he'll tell you.

We don't have a President, we have a Gaslighter-in-Chief. Pretty soon he'll declare that water isn't wet, up is actually down, and the sun doesn't rise in the east and set in the west. And if you don't believe what he says, you're just another liberal deep-stater out to get him.

For a person claiming to portray such strength, why does he display a constant paranoia, denial of reality, and a clutch of fantastical, delusional lies that shows him to have the weakest character of any President to ever sit in the White House?

We don't have a President

Haven't had in almost four years.

The winner gets to write the history.

It is the way it has been, and it is likely the way it will be.

For example, how many textbooks of American History have you read that were written by Native Americans?

He's addicted and constantly high to prescribed meth.

It's amazing what this guy gets away with. He claims it's because Donnie knows he can't sue him without exposing all his dirty little secrets during the discovery process:

I forgot it was field trip day for the 73 year-old drug addict wearing Depends, lifts in his shoes, a girdle, a dyed-blonde combover, a spray tan and dentures. Looking good, Sir! @realDonaldTrump

Quite a few. I went to SF State and they're big on Native American there.

Unfortunately the aforementioned texts aren't published by Rand McNally or whoever the big textbook publisher is these days...

How a Flynn theory became central to the Trump reelection campaign

Another objective is to rewrite the history of the Russia investigation as Trump has long sought, by casting Flynn as a martyr wronged by nefarious bureaucratic elites. These efforts are being amplified by wall-to-wall coverage on Fox News Channel and elsewhere in conservative media, where this week Flynn coverage has rivaled and at times overshadowed news about the pandemic, even as the U.S. death toll from the novel coronavirus climbed past 85,000.

And in a remarkable turn Thursday, Trump urged Congress to call Obama to testify and even suggested those involved - including Biden and two longtime Trump antagonists, former FBI director James B. Comey and former CIA director John Brennan " go to prison.

"I'm talking with 50-year sentences," Trump said in an interview with Fox Business Network that aired Thursday. "It's a disgrace what's happened. This is the greatest political scam, hoax in the history of our country. . . . People should be going to jail for this stuff. "

Trump added, "This was all Obama. This was all Biden. These people were corrupt - the whole thing was corrupt - and we caught them."

"Obamagate" morphed in just one week from a fringe cause pushed on social media and podcasts by Trump allies - including former National Security Council staffer Sebastian Gorka and conservative legal commentators Joseph diGenova and Victoria Toensing, among others - to a centerpiece of Trump's reelection message.

Whoomp, there it is!

Kudos to you @ SF State.

But, as you note, that seems to be an outlier, not the norm.

Considering nothing has happened to Hillary (no charges/arrest), I won't hold my breath as it pertains to B. Hussein's criminality.

Furthermore, Trump is playing with fire. It's one thing to hammer the previous president when that president was highly unpopular. But B. Hussein has been relatively popular in his retirement.

Trump may be poking a sleeping bear.

Rsty,

I think this is going to be blown up by Judge Sullivan. The reason Flynn is out on point is that they need him as their example of wrongdoing by the Obama Administration since Carter Page flamed out as it regards any link to an Obama-issued order.

Sullivan is going to get the complete stories from every lawyer on both sides of the case, and Flynn's criminal conduct and connections with Turkey are going to become a more widespread news story since they involve one of his other guilty pleas rolled into the deal. Once that happens, it'll be obvious why the FBI opened a counterintelligence investigation into Flynn's activities because of both his and their national security implications.

And on top of this will be Barr's machinations that twisted the DOJ's plea withdrawal into possible prosecutorial misconduct charges being levied. Sullivan will go down as this generation's Judge Sirica. As with Sirica, Trumpists may have messed with the wrong judge... and then have to pay a high, high price for doing so.

We can only hope.

Another Watergate reference? But I see you laid this one out against Flynn.

"Obamagate is the biggest political corruption story in history!"

JFC, settle down.

"Obamagate is the biggest political corruption story in history!"

I wonder when it will hit Trump and Barr that in more courts than I can count they're affirmatively making the claim that a sitting President not only can't be investigated for anything he's done in his entire life, he also has "absolute immunity" while President?

Obama was President, and he has the same immunities that Trump claims for himself, right? So how is Obama's use of his government a crime while Trump's use of his government is A-OK?

Just asking for a friend.

So I'm not the only one seeing that dichotomy?

All the while Pres Trump and his appointed polyp-checkers are going crazy ascribing Presidential misbehavior to fmr Pres Obama, they, themselves, are proclaiming absolute immunity from any such assertions.

If this weren't happening now in the Oval Office, it would be awesome fodder fot SCTV.

In actuality, it seems so sad.

That's the hypocrisy I'm hoping puts an end to this.

I can live with hypocrisy, but I refuse to lie down for outright criminality - now being cloaked in faux-constitutional sophistry.

I don't care about right and left as much as I care about right and wrong. We've never seen criminals turn the law on its head trying to legitimize graft and larceny from the highest office in our land.

I don't know how oldtimers can even post here without acknowledging there was no controversy about the factual evidence emerging in the summer of 2016 when many of us were posting stories about Russia's counter-intel op and how they were actively interfering in the presidential election. Many ties to Trump's campaign were already known even then, though it was hard to believe any major party nominee would take the help of Russia. There was every reason in the world for the US IC and LEO to investigate an overt act of war and a national security nightmare.

But here we are. And at this point, I truly hope the weight of the house of cards will finally bring down the entire corrupt structure in a way that even the most fervent Trump supporter won't be able to ignore the truth of what actually happened.

This is amazing, you mean that this super secret information slipped past all of Dotard's other three hand-picked DNIs and his two DCIAs, including Super Sycophant Pompeo who has blatantly lied to benefit Combover Quisling on numerous occasions? This stinks like an hog farm in 100 degree still day.

Sure, there aren't a bunch of Native American written history textbooks out there, but I bet if you went to school and university outside of the United States, you'd get wildly different perspectives on events like WW2. Pretty sure Russia doesn't put the same weight on the USA's influence on "winning the war," given that they were largely responsible for depleting Germany's military along the Eastern Front, for instance.

Trump should start touting himself as the greatest Historical Fiction author of all time.
Even better than the Founders, who wrote about freedom while owning slaves.
