I wonder what the US COVID death total will be the first day Trump goes golfing?

Oh. That someone Trump likes will make a profit from of plague? Did you expect anything else? I didn't.

... Drain the swamp! ...

Indeed.

After rallying against Wall Street, Pres Trump makes the White House look like Wall Street south.

Now, during the pandemic crisis, Pres Trump sees no problem with pulling in someone with a $10 million of conflict of interest.

btw, for those interested, PBS's American Experience has a special on the 1918 pandemic. It was originally broadcast in 2018.

My local PBS station is broadcasting it this coming week.

Here's the website, it looks like you can view it there...

Influenza 1918
www.pbs.org

...In September of 1918, soldiers at an army base near Boston suddenly began to die. The cause of death was identified as influenza, but it was unlike any strain ever seen.As the killer virus spread across the country, hospitals overfilled, death carts roamed the streets and helpless city officials dug mass graves. It was the worst epidemic in American history, killing over 600,000 " until it disappeared as mysteriously as it had begun....

While this may seem to be a conflict of interest to some people, it's isn't.

@#5 ... it's isn't. ...

Why do you think it isn't?

Developing a vaccine for an illness with 99% survival rate?

Another stat:

The overall US death rate is actually lower in 2020 compared to 2019 - 72 deaths per 100K per month.

Population increased 3% in 2020.

Total deaths thru April 20:

2019 - 973,344
2020 - 991,777

Less overall deaths possibly due to less traffic fatalities? Interested in reading others' ideas on that statistic. We're also in the red zone % of unemployment where Bureau of Labor has previous statistics showing +1% increases +% of opioid overdoses and suicides:
As unemployment approaches 20%, each 1% rise can result in 3.3% spike in drug OD/ 1% increase in suicides (National Bureau of Economic Research.) If unemployment hits 32%, ~77,000 Americans may die as a result.

"The seasonal flu that we deal with every year has a mortality of 0.1%" (i.e., 99.9% survival rate). www.health.com
And yet, we have flu vaccines...

I must have missed the refrigerator trucks full of dead bodies in 2019. When, exactly, did that happen? Were the hospitals overwhelmed? Were nurses and EMTs dropping dead because of it?

All the more reason Americans need Quantitative Easing. What's good for Wall Street is good for Main Street.

They've f'd this up. Either the thing won't work or it will be put on the market too early.

A vaccine will be available.

And it will come attached with a price tag.

Sorry poor people. No soup for you.

The current morbidity rate is 6%, not 1% - 90,000 (current deaths) divided by 1,400,000 (number of confirmed cases) = 6%

Experts are predicting that somewhere around 60% of Americans will contract COVID-19 before this pandemic is over. (198m)

1% of that number is 1,980,000. 6% would be 11,800,000

BTW, we develop annual vaccines for the common flu because most people think anyone dying of something that could be preventable is a horrible thing.

Sadly, many Trumpers think American deaths in the hundreds of thousands or millions are an acceptable price to pay so they can eat inside McDonalds.

Nobody should be surprised. The US is not part of the international group of countries working together toward a vaccine because there's no profit motive for Dotard and his donors. This entire regime has always been about the grift. If the Obama Administration had done one-100th of what the regime has done GOP heads and the media's heads would have exploded. We are perilously close to losing our democracy, Diaper Donnie is flooding the zone with so much graft and corruption we don't know where to look, which hides the fact that he's also seizing unparalleled power with the help of Barr.

If we allow the few to make billions off of a Pandemic......then expect more Pandemics.
