This is the first such waiver granted since the military banned most trans people from serving as their preferred gender.

Would this count as a command/service wide impact bullet on their FITREP eval?

At what point do racist/misogynistic prejudices and biases get measured up against corps cohesion? I say this because as Boaz has taught many times, there are a lot of rank and file soldiers who will never accept a transgender officer leading them. So do those intolerant people get kicked out of the military? IMO, maybe, depending on the circumstances.

Serving as a faux hole? Ish.

Peachy, right up to the point where some 'female' sailor's dangly bits start chubbing in the women's showers. This is not going to end well.

After this person has served honorably for a year or two and is joined by others doing the same his/her presence will become routine and his/her gender will not matter to most people. Folks like Mustang are old and prejudiced but even they can grow and learn that trans people have always been with us but they just had to hide who they were.

The logical thing to do would be to end gender segregation altogether. Instead of separate mens and women's facilities, just have "facilities." Ditto with uniforms.

Problem solved. At least "that" problem solved. Probably a lot more introduced...but at least you wouldn't have to screw around with how to deal with guys who wanted to wear a women's uniform.

It's cosmetic. It's petty. And it doesn't matter to anyone other than they person who is expecting others to recognize them as something other than what they actually are.

I think it could be ignored if the person were a solid leader...but if you're hanging your hat on the transgender card, you've already failed as a leader. Women fought for years to be treated as equals in the military and be counted for their merits. Now the TG movement comes in and says they need to be recognized as women, even if they're not.

The reason I turned down the Navy after high school was the Pentagon's anti-gay stance. Which is just ridiculous for the Navy. Village People anyone?

For example, I didn't want to put myself in a situation where I could get raped in the showers and then be told, that's impossible, there are no gays in the military.

I'm sure some of you can relate.

#9 | Posted by snoofy at 2020-05-18 04:19 PM | Reply

People are saying that the trans navy person was born female, but after taking testosterone now has a larger member than Mustang and minibomber.

Nonsense. Tell Mustang that. There is a time necessary for adjustment to a new norm, people will get over it just like they got over racial differences but it will take some longer than others.

You're "concerned" about something you think might happen, but of course you couldn't care less about the thousands of sexual assaults committed by non-trans personnel. Why is that?

#14 | Posted by Derek_Wildstar at 2020-05-19 01:50 PM | Reply

Sexual assault is widespread throughout the military. The military pretty much acknowledges it.

The military doesn't have the best people. They have rapists and drug addicts. But I am sure some of them are good people.

When the exception isn't the rule, and you base your opinions on the exception, you yourself become a bigot.

Humtake, you seem unaware he's channeling comments made about Mexico by President Donald J. TRUMP.

They will accept them. The bigoted scum don't get a say in the matter. We've been through this before.

#20 | Posted by DarkVader I propose you spend a few weeks on a martial ship at sea before you impose your values on an other culture. The only area that you can call yours is a bunk, privacy does not exist. The navy has accepted other races and women decades ago. They even accepted gays, but some guy who puts on makeup and a dress every morning will likely make an unscheduled departure. The ocean is a big trackless place. Conformity in a military community is a requirement. Here is the thing that will make your blood boil. The Navy does not care what you think. You are a distraction and they have more important thing to worry about, like countering the Chinese aggression in the South China Sea.

#21 | Posted by docnjo at 2020-05-20 05:52 AM | Reply

So now DOCNJO supports murdering people who won't comply with his bigoted idea of what is right or wrong. Good to know. I think the military should root out folks like DOCNJO and court martial them. I don't think we want a military full of would be murderers.

"You are a distraction and they have more important thing to worry about, like countering the Chinese aggression in the South China Sea."

And just why is that the United State's job. Does the Chinese presence in the S. China Sea affect your life? It is thinking like that which gets us involved in wars like Vietnam and Iraq.

#23 | Posted by danni Seems the greatest killer of Chinese in history is the Chinese Communist Party.

#22 | Posted by danni I am not advocating murder. But what you don't know about that culture could fill a drum. What part of weapon, military, war and power do you not understand? Killing is what we do. Organized murder on a national scale is war is.

#24 | Posted by docnjo Who have the Chinese threaten lately? Vietnam, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, and us. Seems the tyrannical police state, which has murdered more than Hitler and Stalin combined, has more in concentration camps than ether ever had should be challenged. Maybe confronting such evil is not such a lame ideal. Remember there have been thugs that have raised themselves up and no one bothered to answer them. The last time it caused a little thing called WWII.

Meanwhile, Docnjo sees two million Americans in prison and calls that "a good start."

Land of the free, baby!

#27 | Posted by snoofy at 2020-05-20 12:27 PM | Reply

#27 | Posted by snoofy I agree, 80% of those in prison could be released under supervision. Most should be forced to make restitution for their crimes. That other 20% can rot in a cell, you don't want those animals outside a cage. Penal slavery is allowed under the 13th Amendment.

#28 | Posted by docnjo at 2020-05-20 12:40 PM | Reply

So how about we clean up our own house before complaining about China.

#29 | Posted by snoofy at 2020-05-20 12:42 PM | Reply

#29 | Posted by snoofy, That is a mater of process and degree- China has a couple of million in prisons for membership in Falun Gong, (admittedly a cult- but basically harmless), and or troublesome Muslims in their wild west. They were not given a trial at all or charged with nebulous charges like "anti-revolutionary thought". Add to that a few hundred thousand Christians for not belonging to a state sanctioned Church. I guess in your prospective we should have ignored Hitler until we abolished Jim Crow laws. The reality is the CCP is the most brutal authoritarian state in existence that could be a serious threat to us. Russia is broke, the PDRK is a mouse that roars. The Islamic states enjoy killing each other too much to bother us much, at least on a strategic level.

How?
???

What are they gonna do, not let us exploit their prison labor any more?

That's no threat to me, you, or anyone else, except a few rich people who get richer by making deals with "the most brutal authoritarian state in existence."

Are they siding with Communism and against Freedom?

Leave it to snoofy to defend the communist Chinese dictatorship. He does it repeatedly. I always thought he was a 50 cent type.

#32 | Posted by snoofy Any shade of Red is still red. The biggest oxymoron I hear is the term "Democratic Socialism". "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk", Churchill.
Sorry, the big bad world doesn't owe you a ---- thing.
