Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Shortly before the CDC visit, Trump said "within a couple of days, [infections are] going to be down to close to zero". The US then had 15 cases. "One day, it's like a miracle, it will disappear." A few days afterwards, he claimed: "I've felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic." That afternoon at the CDC provides an X-ray into Trump's mind at the halfway point between denial and acceptance.

I would argue that the Vietnam War was another great American failure. Above and beyond all those killed, both Americans and Vietnamese. That war disillusioned America. We have never been the same. We learned not to trust our government or our leaders on a fundamental level. We KNOW they are not looking out for our best interests. We KNOW they are more concerned with Wall Street, big Corporations and the super wealthy than they are the working class. The Vietnam War taught us this, and who we are now as a people is a direct consequence of that lesson. May LBJ, Nixon and that whole generation of politicians burn in ----.

Who could have dreamed we'd go from being a nation the rest of the world admired to one they pitied?

Thanks, Donald Trump!

Made America Glarinigly Awful.
or maybe
Made America God-Awful.

Trump: The man that sunk America.

Wrong, it's a democracy (OK, representative republic) so the only ones to blame are the voters. They were so selfish and tunnel visioned that the glaringly obvious faults of a TV clown were purposely ignored.
This is America, and the people failed themselves.

"This is America, and the people failed themselves, and the world."

I've said Trump is the manifestation (the symptom) of the disease.

yav- trump is not the problem, it's that we have 60 million people that voted for his dumb ass.

Agreed. That's why I said he was the manifestation of the disease. That's why I said the American people failed the world.

A racist dystopia.

#9 | Posted by fresno500 at 2020-05-18 03:33 AM | Reply

It is both.

We have a perfect storm. 2/3 people don't even vote.

The people driven by hate voted. And they voted for trump.

We have a population that is mostly uneducated.

Corruption and legacy are rewarded, ability is not.

"May LBJ, Nixon and that whole generation of politicians burn in ----."

I agree with your entire post but I have sympathy for LBJ. I remember the night he came on TV and said "I will not run nor will I accept the nomination for President." I honestly believe he finally did understand and was quite sorry for his role in that war. I believe he was caught up in the cold war which clouded the judgement of so many at the time but he finally recognized the error of his ways and was trying his best through the Paris Peace Talks to end that war. Richard Nixon committed treason and went behind LBJ's back to get the S. Vietnamese to back out of any peace deal with the promise of a better deal under his Presidency. In the end they got nothing but slaughter and Richard Nixon was entirely responsible for the deaths of several million S. Vietnamese people. But you are right, "That war disillusioned America. We have never been the same."

Can't agree, the people are just people. If they are told by Fox News that up is down they believe up is down. The management of Fox News understands that and uses it to manipulate the people, most of whom just aren't that bright. Without liars in the media our country would be far better off.

"the only ones to blame are the voters."

We do get the politicians we deserve for the most part.

But lets not forget that there has been a decades long effort by conservatives to dumb down school curriculums and to pollute the news media with opinions and outright lies so that the voter base is now less informed than ever.

The GOP has failed America repeatedly,
since 1980. Trickle Down Economics,
Tax Cuts ONLY for Billionaires, Millionaires,
and wealthy Corporations,
dilution of Separation of Church & State,
putting unborn fetuses above human infants
and children, allowing guns in everything from
churches, to stores, to bars, treating everyone
without a white skin like subservient worker drones,
treating anyone without a six figure job, like
subservient worker drones, both wanting and not wanting
Latin Americans in the country, NO if they want to vote,
YES if they will cut Massa's Lawn...

The GOP is basically the Rich White Racist Party, there
only for the Rich Vested Interests of Wall Street and the
Powerful Elite, Racist Goons, and Ultra-religious Loons...

These attempts to rewrite history are suspect. Trump won because of a defect that was exploited successfully in our system of democracy. Trump lost the actual vote of citizens by 3 million votes.

America didn't invent stupidity, but it certainly has perfected it.

You have to understand the Trump voter.

They want someone who will break the system. They don't care about consequences.

When Barr or Trump covers something up or breaks basic laws or oversight, they see this as a Win.

Letting Flynn or Stone go is a win to them even IF they broke the law.

Trump making money off the presidency is also a WIN for them. It sticks it to the Libs.

Like with AndreaMackris, it's not about the future of the country or how to help their neighbor, it's about winning even if they have to lie, cheat and steal to do it.

It's like a 2-year old who throws a tantrum. They're mad and they just want to break something. Two-year-olds don't understand consequences.

And have been for decades.

We as a society allowed our security and economy to be sold out for cheap trinkets and consumer goods.

We've been more concerned about getting the newest 5000" flat screen HD teevee for rock bottom prices (to be replaced by the 5050" two years later...because it's "better"!) than maintaining a truly robust economy here that paid our neighbors enough to live on.

Literally every major problem we face today is a result of our own short sighted stupidity and greed.

They want someone who will break the system. They don't care about consequences.

Ironically, it's a dysfunctional system that's the result of their warped worldview.

And now that they've found themselves standing on their own dicks with both feet and a fresh bullet hole through all three, they're angry and want to burn it all down to ease the pain.
