Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

"Life continued as normal," said Jeffrey Tucker, the editorial director for the American Institute for Economic Research. "But as with now, no one knew for certain how deadly [the pandemic] would turn out to be. Regardless, people went on with their lives."

Which, he said, isn't all that surprising. "That generation approached viruses with calm, rationality and intelligence," he said. "We left disease mitigation to medical professionals, individuals and families, rather than politics, politicians and government."

Early on, with the then-published morbidity rates, I thought reasonable distancing measures were prudent.

What started as prudent became ridiculous, as left-leaning state and local governments started using the Rona as an excuse to accomplish some things on their wish list.

Yes, entirely factual history recall.

"Life went on as normal during the Black Plague."

Why are you crying? It's just some fleas. If you don't have fleas, you got nothing to worry about.

I've been wondering how differently things would have turned out had we not made any adjustments at all to CV. As living organisms would we have been more resilient than the models were predicting? Impossible to know, at this point.

#8 I've been wondering how differently things would have been if NYC hadn't shunted all the sick old people into elderly care facilities and had shut down the subways. Would the death toll in NYC have been 50% lower?

#8 "I've been wondering how differently things would have been if NYC hadn't shunted all the sick old people into elderly care facilities"

I've asked Cuomo to provide some stats on how many elderly patients with Covid were sent from hospitals to nursing homes and how many other elderly residents in those homes got infected as a result.

"and had shut down the subways. Would the death toll in NYC have been 50% lower?"

They couldn't shut them down as essential workers need they to get to work. The should, however, have cleaned them better earlier on and not let the homeless shelter on them.

That's a great point, Mustang.

It's amazing that NY has had the worst results yet the MSM deifies Cuomo and Florida has had some of the best results and DeSantis has been vilified. Same with Michigan - Whitmer has been elevated to God-like status and Michigan's numbers have been terrible.

I wonder how things would be different had Trump not defunded the CDC and ignored the virus for two months.

I wonder how life would have been different in America if Trump was a leader instead of a tyrant.

I wonder how life would be different if conservatives held Trump to some sort of standards. Instead of giving him a pass on everything he says and does, or doesn't do.

Mostly thanks to efforts by Trumpublicans, like you.

The Governor of Florida suppresses COVID statistics.

This is something you know, JEFF.

That's easy. Trump wouldn't be president.

The number of deaths would be higher.

Sorry to stop your wondering, JEFF.

The number of American COVID deaths will break 100,000 sometime this week.

When it does, JEFF and Friends will be selling this forum on the meme that there aren't nearly that many at all.

Because that's what Trump will be doing.

While it's way too soon to compare the numbers, H3N2 has so far proved deadlier than COVID-19. Between 1968 and 1970, the Hong Kong flu killed between an estimated 1 and 4 million, according to the CDC and Encyclopaedia Britannica, with US deaths exceeding 100,000. As of this writing, COVID-19 has killed more than 295,000 globally and around 83,000 in the United States, according to Johns Hopkins University. But by all projections, the coronavirus will surpass H3N2's body count even with a global shutdown.

Read that as many times as you need to.

And not to put too fine of a point on this idiotic rationalization, but, if proper steps had been taken at the proper time, many of the drastic measures would not have been necessary.

Of course we could've just taken the 1969 run-its-course approach...

You know you sound EXACTLY like Trump. Same language. Same level of critical thought.

It's kinda eerie.

Killer pandemic, LOL

"In comparison to other pandemics of the 20th century, the Hong Kong flu yielded a low death rate.[8]"
