Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

On March 6 Cuomo insisted, "The overall risk level of the novel coronavirus in New York remains low" and said, "We have more people in this country dying from the flu than we have dying from coronavirus." As late as March 8, Cuomo, instead of advising people to stay away from the subway, advised New Yorkers to seek out less-crowded subway cars, the mass-transit equivalent of saying, "Let them eat cake."

What may turn out to have been Cuomo's worst unforced error was his March 25 order that nursing homes must accept patients who carried the coronavirus. This now looks like setting off a series of time bombs in New York State's elder-care facilities, and Cuomo didn't reverse this policy until May 11. The governor protested at that time that only 12 percent of New York State COVID deaths had occurred in nursing homes, but we are now learning that many people who died after falling ill in nursing homes have not been counted in the official stats. One such facility reported seven COVID deaths to the state, the New York Post reported, but the actual number of deaths there over a five-week period this spring was 76. New York is literally burying this problem: Many New Yorkers who died in nursing homes were never tested for the virus. Nursing-home staffers told the Post far more people are dying at long-term-care facilities than in a normal spring and that a coverup is underway. There is now a bipartisan group in Albany calling for an investigation, but Cuomo replied, "This is going to be a period where we don't play gratuitous politics."

Another thing from Trump Central, an expected attempt to tear down the COVID reputations of other leaders making Donald look bad.

Someone needs to address your predictability to you. It's easy to see who you are going to attack days and weeks in advance. Just like its easy to identify what Trump failures you'll assert were really Trump victories.

This is shameless.

But you support Donald Trump, so by definition have no shame and are arguably spiritually and mentally ill.

As you know, and as we speak, Donald Trump is the primary cheerleader for the American public all getting closer together again, despite the curve of COVID infections not flattening. Despite the deaths going up.

Except in places like Cuomo's New York. Go figure.

Yeah, Donald Trump encourages us the re-open without following the guidelines he himself published for use. Which is interesting, and crazy. Trump is pretending that his evil left hand is doing things his wonderful right hand knows nothing about.

I have never thought people like you are stupid. But ----, you give a practical demonstration of evil virtually each time you post.

Yesterday Texas had their highest death count yet. Remember when a poster here said their death count was only 37 and I commented that oly a couple of months ago NY could have said the same thing? Well Texas is beginning to understand. COVID19 doesn't care if you are a red or a blue state, if you are a Republican or a Democrat.

Trump is betting that Americans care more about the economy than American lives. I think he is going to lose that bet, probably how he bankrupted a casino.

While the influenza comparison is stupid, that comparison was true at that time as far as we knew. Preparation should have been started and moving but at that point lockdown didn't seem necessary.

Turns out it was (virus was here much earlier than expected...).

This is a disingenuous argument that I see constantly.

You shut down the subway, you shut down the entire city. Even essential workers need to move to get to work. Warmer weather might limit subway usage but during February and March? No way.

Either you're a gullible idiot who doesn't understand what you're saying or you're dishonest.

"I think he is going to lose that bet"

Given the intractability of his supporters I think the odds are still in his favor.

I have to agree. Trumpites are like zombies, they don't care how many casualties they take.

Now the individual Trumpite taking one for the team may ----- and moan as he is intubated, but that's no reason for other Trumpites not to go out and have a cheeseburger.

Trumpers think we should be filling the subway cars regardless. How can you claim this was an error?

You really expect SAWDUST to answer that?

Funny man.

Cuomo has the highest death toll in the world, and the Left loves him.

He should declare for president, right now. Imagine how much more popular he'll be when he crams more infected people into more nursing homes.
