Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Late last Friday, the architect and manager of Florida's COVID-19 dashboard -- praised by White House officials for its accessibility -- announced that she had been removed from her post, causing outcry from independent researchers now worried about government censorship.

They are under-reporting their figures for sure...

If the real #'s aren't at least 25% higher I'll eat Trumps hairpiece.

(^)My assessment is for the nation - not just Florida.

Yup.

Not a bad guess if this graph is correct:

Republicans are the party of liars. They have to be in order to get elected, because they want to kill America and loot the corpse.

We're going to need a full investigation into China over this cover-up.

It's almost sad that the right wingers self-destructed (again!).

These types of threads beg for the comments.

Although they usually avoided them like the plague :(

Comparing total deaths now to total deaths a year ago shows that we're being killed off at a crazy rate. It's insane. We're opening too early and the death rate will spike. We're not even done with the first wave.

I've actually built public health dashboards.

When they go dark like this, it's because upper management doesn't like what the data reveal.

We're not even done with the first wave.
#6 | POSTED BY BRUCEBANNER

The local effect is a wave, but nationally it's looking like it's going to be more of a broad, months-long plateau.

Since places that weren't hard hit yet are now opening up and encouraging their citizens to go out and face-check the virus.

Stupid beyond belief.

Thanks, Capitalism!

What do you expect from Republicans?

They screwed with the data in Georgia too.

#6 | POSTED BY BRUCEBANNER

And places that opened earlier (ie Texas) have already seen spikes in their cases.

This wasn't rocket science and anybody claiming it wasn't going to happen was lying.

Now we're finding that more and more red states are simply cooking their numbers to justify their policies.

This isn't going to end well.

The politicians maybe. But people are behaving more intelligently than I thought they would.

My city/county opened up officially on Monday. Neighboring counties opened some time ago.

And you haven't really seen a big change. People aren't packing restaurants here. They're not packing bars and stores (Home Depot was still controlling access on Saturday when I stopped).

Maybe there's some hope yet.

If you look at Florida's numbers, it's pretty obvious they disappeared 5,000 active cases on May 12.
It's a steady climb, but it sawtooths down for no reason on May 12.

May 11 Active Cases 38,201
May 12 Active Cases 33,048
www.worldometers.info

When you see something like this in the data, it means something is funny about the data, not the dashboard.

If you look at Florida's deaths (same page), you can see a pretty obvious "weekend effect" where the deaths appear to flatten and go to nearly zero every Saturday and Sunday. This is not unexpected since the regular staffers reporting that information likely get weekends off. It's also why you might consider reporting a seven-day moving average instead of plotting each day.

Yes it is pretty clear the states are going back and figuring out that a lot of the deaths were not covid so they are removing from the total numbers.

How are they "figuring that out" without testing?

that's not what's going on in Florida.
Also the number of COVID-19 deaths is undercounted.
how can you be constantly wrong?

"Also the number of COVID-19 deaths is undercounted."

These deliberately ignorant fools don't even understand that actual flu deaths are vastly under-counted as well, and the annual number reported by the CDC is derived from statistical inference.

As Trump said, more testing means more positives.

Deplorables would rather everyone just keep their head up Trump's ass.

It's The Emperor's New Pandemic.

#18 You know nothing about public health epidemiology.
You shouldn't be so proud of that fact, Crassus.

You actually remind me of China.
In China, if there's no dead body, the government says there's no proof they died.
And that's why the bulldozers turned the Tienanmen Square protesters into silly putty.

Why do you keep dodging what are surely easy questions?

How are they determining that these deaths weren't COVID and, therefore, justifying lowering the counts?

Don't dodge. Answer.

Trump's own CDC says they are being under-counted.
Medical professionals across the country say they are being under-counted.

Should I trust you or them?

Even Dr. Fauci admits that the current death numbers are an undercount. How do you explain the ten-fold increase in at home deaths in New York during the height of their curve. Where they all falling down stairs as Diaper Donnie claimed? Most at-home deaths, especially if the patient was older and had documented underlying conditions don't even get autopsied. The Medical Examiner just uses the underlying condition such as heart disease or asthma as the cause of death and "natural causes" as the manner of death. This is especially prevalent in small counties where they have an elected coroner who doesn't do many autopsies. I worked in a small county years ago where the elected Coroner was a nurse. They had to farm autopsies out to retired Medical Examiners at county expense. Needless to say, pretty much the only bodies that ever got autopsied died from acts of violence. ----, even now I work in a much larger county with an actual Medical Examiner's office with in-house investigators and cutters. When we go to death scenes, if the decedent was older and unhealthy, the ME calls his/her doctor if they can document an existing comorbidity they will often just release the body a funeral home without ever sending an investigator from their office or taking possession of the body.

So you're saying they fired her for something that happened a full year ago and it just so happened that she was fired just as Florida is trying to hide COVID-19 deaths?

Oh yes, that makes so much sense!

Gracie, you're dumb enough to believe anything and have proven over and over again.

"Gracie, you're dumb enough to believe anything"

Don't sell her short!

She's also happy to disbelieve things that are true, in service to the GOP.
