People tend to be repelled with the entire Trumpian "What's one life worth?" argument.

For one thing, it's 95,000 lives and counting.

For another, when people think of death they unaccountably think of themselves.

More from the article:

...Only 25% of voters surveyed -- and half of Republicans -- supported reopening businesses to "get the economy going again, even if that means more people would get the coronavirus," the approach backed by the president....

At this point in the campaign, it seems as if Pres Trump is doing things that his base loves, but that are pushing away non-base voters.

That's been his MO all along. The only president in my lifetime who never saw himself of president of all of us.

40% support isn't going to win him another term. He'll cry about how everything was rigged when the majority of Americans who don't approve of his both his demeanor or governance give him the boot.

@#3 ... 40% support isn't going to win him another term....

National polling seems to have Mr Biden up by around 6%.

In order to raise my confidence of an Electoral College victory, the gap needs to be 11% or more (taking into account margin of error).

It's going to be a long summer....

President Donald Trump is gambling on a sudden U.S. recovery with both lives and livelihoods as he fights to win another term in office this fall, writes Peter Coy in Bloomberg Businessweek. It's a familiar concept in game theory: if you're behind and the stakes are high, bold moves make sense even if there's only a small chance they will pay off. If the gamble fails, he's no worse off because he was probably going to lose the election anyway. For Americans, the cost may be grave.

I do not disagree.

Currently, to my eyes, Pres Trump seems to be gambling with the lives of Americans in order to win in November.

Pres Trump is trying to make the unknown future, for which he paints a rosy picture, the centerpiece of his campaign.

But I gotta ask... If Pres Trump wants me to believe his promises for a rosy future, should I evaluate those promises based upon the context of his promises during the 2016 campaign?

You're going to have such great healthcare at a tiny fraction of the cost, and it is going to be so easy.

We believed him then, should we, based upon what he has delivered in healthcare, believe him once again?

President Plump is doing his best to alienate ALL the independent voters. He needs at least 50% of independents to come anywhere near reelection. I saw a model today through Yahoo Finance that gives Biden 312 EVs. Don't get happy!

BRUCE @ #6

"You die, he wins!"

In a nutshell, yes.

As grim as it sounds, consider it human sacrifice all for the benefit of one megalomaniac.

Yes, yes.

It's not the constant lying and nazi dogwhistles.

It's not the use of caging kids as an immigration deterrent.

It's not the constant selling out of our foreign policy and national security apparatus to lick Putin's boots.

It's not the dozens of sexual assault allegations.

It's not the neverending self-dealing and lining his pockets with 9 figures in tax dollars to golf at his own resorts.

It's not the incitement of violence among his -------- supporters.

It's not the multiple felonies he's committed while in office.

It's not the use of campaign funds to pay hush money to pornstars he rawdogged while his (third) wife looked after their newborn.

It's not the golfing 25% of his "presidency."

No...it's the "opening the country too soon" that's gonna cost him.

Please.

Trump also says he won't shut down the country again even if there's a second wave. So even if millions of people die, the show must go on! Even if people dropped dead on the sidewalks, and their bodies were dragged into the streets and set on fire, as happened in Ecuador, by golly we are not giving in to the tyranny! Last time I checked this was a free country, amirite?

In a few weeks the CDC and Johns Hopkins will report a big jump in US cases. by then, it will be far too late to put the US population of mouth-breathers, anti-vaxxers, COVID deniers and plain old Republicans back into their houses. These people will clutter up hospitals, cough all over each other down at the mega-church, get into ------- matches at the Home Depot and Walmart, and halt the reduction in cases. They will blame Tony Fauci, MSNBC, the nasty 'girl reporters' who show up at the Trump rant-a-thons, the Chinese and illegals climbing over the wall.

Remember the folks who bought ammo and TP two months ago? they will be itching to shoot someone--anyone--that they identify as causing the second wave. Folks will be held up in the parking lot of the local grocery, at the casino and in church. All thanks to Trump, his big mouth and his moronic believers...
