Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, May 22, 2020

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday emphatically defended his ties to the African American community " telling a popular black radio personality that he "ain't black" if he was still weighing whether to support Biden or President Donald Trump in November's general election. "Listen, you've got to come see us when you come to New York, VP Biden," Charlamagne said [as the interview was ending]. "It's a long way until November. We've got more questions." "You've got more questions?" Biden replied. "Well, I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black."

And that matters. Trump has boxed himself into a caricature of himself, which many voters have grown bored of in addition to feeling it's not appropriate for the circumstances we're facing. Biden doesn't profess to be a genius, but he demonstrably stable. Relatively speaking.

He's saying only white people are still deciding between him and Trump. Or only white people are split.

And yes, Trump did "deny their sense of legitimacy". He said voting for Democrats was disloyal. To who? The party who supports Israel (not really, just their twisted religious "prophesies") while also supporting white nationalists who chanted "the Jews will not replace us" at their rally?

They can deal with it.

If they continue to vote for a Republican Party that doesn't see them as equals of white people, then they aren't worth arguing with.

This is a GOP that doesn't care about police brutality and double standards for the black community. It routinely tries to block African Americans from voting. It's a party that is open to the White Supremacist movement and has protected them. It is a president who called White Supremacists "Very fine people."

What Biden said was in jest, he knew the host was black. But the jest had a point.

"(CNN)The man then-candidate Donald Trump called "my African American" at a 2016 rally is leaving the Republican Party and no longer supports the President.

Gregory Cheadle, of California, told "PBS NewsHour" he believes the Republican Party is pursuing a "pro-white" agenda and using black people like him as "political pawns."
"I'm just sick and tired of the way blacks and other people of color have been treated by this administration and by the GOP," Cheadle told CNN's Erin Burnett on Thursday on "Erin Burnett OutFront." He said he has been frustrated with Trump's rhetoric on race and the lack of diversity in his administration and judicial appointments......

"We just haven't had people called the names publicly that we have had with this administration," Cheadle told PBS. "To stay on this ship now, as a black Republican, I couldn't do it."

I'll be dropping this in the Nooner as well:

From May of 2016:

Trump has a 45-42 percent edge over Clinton, if the presidential election were held today. That's within the poll's margin of sampling error. Last month, Clinton was up by 48-41 percent (April 2016).

www.foxnews.com

From May of 2020:

In the poll released on Friday, Trump's net approval was minus ten points, with 44 percent approving of Trump's overall job and 54 percent disapproving. That's a steep drop from the last Fox poll, when Trump was even at 49 percent approval and 49 percent disapproval. And in the same poll, Joe Biden now leads Trump by eight points, 48 percent to Trump's 40 percent, in a head-to-head presidential match. That's up eight points from April, when Biden and Trump were tied at 42 percent.

Another interesting result, in light of Trump and the Republicans' recent and fierce push to make "Obamagate" happen, is that former President Barack Obama enjoys a 63 percent favorable rating versus just 35 percent unfavorable " a five-point upward swing from last month and his highest-ever rating in the poll since his inauguration in 2009.

Former VP Biden, on the call, said: No one should have to vote for any party based on their race, background, religion, or any demographic information. He added that he wants to earn the votes of African Americans and that they are "critical" to his ability to win the presidency.

Biden also blasted Pres Trump for calling African countries -------- countries, for saying there were fine ppl on both sides after a woman was killed while protesting against Nazis in Charlottesville, and for advancing policies that Biden believes threatens the black community.

Former VP Biden said it was "unfortunate" that he said black voters "ain't black" if they're considering voting for Pres Trump.

Biden said, "I am prepared to put my record against his. That was the bottom line. And it was really unfortunate. I shouldn't have been so cavalier."

The morons on the Reich love to take comments out of context. This interview didn't happen in a bubble, it happened days after Dotard called the MOST POPULAR POTUS in history among black voters "incompetent." The most incompetent person to ever occupy the WH calling someone else incompetent is comedy that writes itself. The orange diaper dumper has spent the past three and a half years tearing down President Obama's legacy; he won't unveil President Obama's portrait; he led the racist birther movement; he made excuses for white supremacists and called them "very fine people." When somebody tells you who they are, believe them, Combover Quisling has spent the past three and a half years proving to the world that he's a racist POS, African Americans believe him, which is why in a recent poll Trump got 3% of the black vote. Thanks to Dotard's dithering, incompetence, and lies, he's allowed a virus that infects and kills a higher percentage of blacks than any other race to spread across the country. The resulting Drumpf Depression is hitting the black community harder than others. Now he's in a hurry to reopen the economy, putting more black lives in jeopardy. Joe is right; if you haven't seen enough of Diaper Donnie and how bad he is for the black community, then you're not black.

I think he got very little backlash from the black community and a lot of insincere performative offense-taking from the media and Republicans.
He might have apologized because in hindsight he realized it was offensive. Biden is capable of taking a hard look at his own actions. He isn't a leader so emotionally insecure that he's afraid to admit fault.

Can't read?

The BET article you cited only mentions a couple Black Republican Congressman complaining.

It's also by the BET Staff. Not the head of BET.

BUT if you want to see BET's position, they announced it an hour later by comparing Biden and Trump...and essentially dismissing Trump as useless:

You want to know how to tell Joe Biden isn't racist?

Joe Biden spent almost 30 years in politics. Then Barack Obama comes along. Joe agrees to play second fiddle to a black man with 1/10 the political career and go along with that man's policies and positions for 8 years. Not once did he step out for self promotion at Obama's expense or fail to support Obama. Joe spent his political capital to support Obama. He was there whenever Obama needed him.

Pence couldn't even keep a straight face behind another white guy for a month. Joe was Obama's man for 96 months plus the campaign with a smile that never faded.

And when challenged on his record of helping the black community, he didn't cite being VP to Obama like the "I have black friends" line most people expect. He said look at my record and the things I have done.

So screw your Biden is a racist garbage.

Jesus Christ, you are a moron. You're projecting on Vice President Biden the sins of your racist POS cult leader. All you have to do is listen to Jim Clyburn's emotional and full-throated endorsement of Joe to understand that the black community knows him, respects him and loves him. Clyburn had nothing to gain from that endorsement, he did it because he thought it was right. Biden has always been a man of the people commuting home on the train every night to be with his young family rather than getting a place in DC.

VP Biden's statement today represents the arrogant and out-of-touch attitude of a paternalistic white candidate who has the audacity to tell Black people, the descendants of slaves, that they are not Black unless they vote for him," Johnson said in a statement.

The point that Biden was inartfully trying to make is that any black person should realize that he will be a better president for their community than Donald Trump.

It's not about owed votes. It's about who will work harder to improve their lives as opposed to just taking credit for a low unemployment rate that wasn't the result of any policy targeted toward helping blacks.

Honest question Snoofy, is San Diego area very racist ( I know people are people ) but it's gotta be different than say Mississippi or such.
#155 | POSTED BY BRUCEAZ

The area is huge, San Diego County is nearly the same population Connecticut and larger than Iowa; 3.3 million. It's got its ups and downs like anywhere else. There's a suburb called Santee, affectionately known as Klantee, or as I prefer Santucky, which is where twice now people have worn Nazi masks or KKK hoods as their mask in the ---- grocery store. So, sure, there's plenty of racists here. We don't have open carry so maybe they're not as open with other things too?

However in San Diego it's heavily tempered by two things. First, in my experience, there's just not a lot of black people here. The way the South has a large minority of black people, that's how Southern California has Hispanic people. Blacks here seem about as rare as Asians in the deep South. Second, a lot of the black people that are here, are here because they're in the Navy. This is the Navy's town; they are the 800lb gorilla. As such, the military does a pretty good job of keeping racism tamped down or at least under wraps. The uniform definitely keeps a lot of the blanket stereotype racism at bay.

When I think of racism in the South, I think of small towns with generations of entrenched poverty, and racist police and judges whose job is to keep it that way. Southern California is not like that anymore except in a few enclaves such as Huntington Beach. That's not to say the people aren't bigoted, but it feels like the cops typically can find better stuff to do than just harass blacks; for example, they're pretty good at harassing the homeless population, which of course is blacker than average. The solution to both poverty and racism is dilution, and since this place has grown like 500% in the past 40 years or so, at least the racism has been diluted pretty good.

I've only lived here eight years and I don't really pay much attention to local politics; it's the same as any rich area, developers trying to defy the county plan and jam in more crappy suburbs. There's bound to be tons of egregious racial history I know nothing about.

"No, I'm not the one who banned immigration from Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan.
That would be President Donald J. TRUMP."

You and him have something in common, then. Myanmar is 88% Buddhist. Got to keep those people segregated from Western culture, right?

#168, it says a lot that you think the N-word is sometimes tolerable in America, but an ancient Indian symbol is not ever.

Whose most recent, recognizable, and common association is with Nazis.

Pls get over yourself. We have.

I said nothing about an ancient Indian symbol.
You're never going to stop trying to conflate a contemporary Western political symbol with an a ancient Indian mystical symbol, are you?

Any idiot can easily tell the difference, from context.

#162 Thanks Snoofy , here in the valley of the sun people don't realize AZ was a Jim Crow state before '64. Blacks lived in south Phoenix because they could only own a house there. Tempe (our Berkeley ) had a pool by the Salt River, whites only. And that meant no Hispanics too.
Not like, that now, nobody gives a ------ you take care of your yard and your kid isn't a gangbanger, cool.

Of course now that menthol cigarettes are illegal my town is probably going to burn, lol.

Gracie,

Charlamagne tha God says Biden an 'intricate part' of system that 'needs to be dismantled': 'What have you done for me, lately?'

His response to Biden was excellent for a variety of reasons.

As a white man who does not hold the values of typical whites of several decades ago, I get annoyed when I keep hearing about how things were and somehow I'm supposed to feel guilty just for being white.

I saw a post in this thread even bringing up Jim Crow....why??

My point is Charlamagne implied the past is the past and we should stop living in the past.

People should be judged by who they are, not who they were or what they have done in the past.

It's time blacks as a culture stop clinging to the chains of their ancestors and build a better future.

#176 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2020-05-24 10:22 AM | Reply

Gracie,

And it's time white people and unfortunately some black leaders stop putting those chains back in their hands constantly reminding them to live in the past for their own political power.

The GOP want blacks sent back to where they came from. The Dems championed equal rights and desegregation over the violent objections of the GOP.

If you are a white supremacist, or support them, vote for the GOP. If you want equal rights, vote Dem. Simple.

You sound a bit peeved that some non-whites seem to have forgotten their place.

"I have black guys counting my money. ... I hate it," Trump said. "The only guys I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes all day."
Trump went on to argue that "Laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that."

Donald Trump said, "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're sending people that have lots of problems. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Truth...ummm....hurts,

Trump went on to argue that "Laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that."

According to the Washington Post,

"'laziness is a trait in blacks' " for which there is no actual recording; it is a secondhand quote attributed to Trump by a former employee."

Truth...ummm....hurts,

The story started going around in the early 90's.

If he did say it, I'll ask you, do you believe the same stuff you did in 1991?

If you still do, I feel sorry for you.

#185 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2020-05-24 04:16 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

#180 How does acknowledging that the GOP is the party of white supremacists imply anything about blacks?

People can make up their own mind.

If they want to vote for Trump in spite of his incompetence, racism, sexism, perversion and corruption that is their right.

If Americans want to vote for Trump, a puppet of murderous regimes like Russia and Saudia Arabia, that is their right.

If cult45 want to support the looting of America, that is their choice.

#186 | Posted by bored at 2020-05-24 04:51 PM | Reply

If Christians want to elect Trump, the champion of the seven deadly sins, that is their choice too.

I guess imposing Christian sharia law for white men is worth it.
