With unemployment expected to reach 20%, U.S. senators decided to take a vacation. America is facing a calamity on par with the Great Depression and the U.S. Senate left without a new relief package in place.

Why does republicl0wnery always include some sort of walkout?

#1 | Posted by RightisTrite at 2020-05-23 12:10 PM | Reply

If we are lucky we might see something by July but it probably won't include anymore direct money to people, it will likely include limitations of liability for business so I guess standard stuff, shut up and die and when you do your family can't sue.

The GOP Senate is simply taking their cue from the top:

Trump golfs for first time since early March

President Trump arrived at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va., around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, his first visit to one of his privately owned courses since the coronavirus outbreak intensified in early March.

The president's return to one of his properties signals to the country permission to resume normal activities, even in a region that has the highest rate of coronavirus cases in the nation.

May this be the kind of thing that further cements the demise of GOP Senators.
We need to turn the Senate this fall. Not by a little, either. We need to dominate.

I remember when BP had the oil disaster. The CEO went sailing more often. Looks like we're dealing with the same brand of coward and failed leadership here.

Everything's done though. The rich are wallowing in more money than ever, the tyranny of safety has been eliminated and Obamacare is being killed off. What else could Trumpists possibly hope to accomplish?

But! But! But what about!

#8 - What else? I'm surprised McConnell's taking a break from appointing nut job right-wing judges that the ABA thinks are cra-cra.

If not, why try your usual whataboutism?

I surprised you don't try blaming the senate GOP incompetence on BENGHAZI.

Will the Coronavirus Kill What's Left of Americans' Faith in Washington?

In 2019, just 17 percent of Americans said they trusted the federal government to do the right thing. The pandemic appears to be eroding their faith even more.

The Senate is not going to pass the 2020 democrat party platform laughingly called the 'heroes act".

sooooooooooooo

Both houses should be there and they would be if everyone in both parties were to lose even one @*&@^#% penny this month.

Great point. The Democrat led house passed a massive relief bill and handed it to the senate in time for the senate to pass it and hand it it was to Trump for signing. They were there with the data and persons needed to support the senate.

Even more damning that the senate walked away from it.

#15 | Posted by BruceBanner at 2020-05-23 01:10 PM | Reply

#9 - I actually looked up the House's agenda. Your link is out of date. Since you addressed me and want to pursue your whataboutism, here you go:

What's the House doing? Waiting on the Senate to take up the bills they passed. Passing rules so they can work remotely and not endanger their staff and each other, unlike the Republican Senate. The House is working remotely, smartly, safely.

Most importantly, the Senate has a bill to help all of us and they aren't interested in taking it up. A bill the House passed on the 15th.

"The Senate may get around to putting together a plan when it reconvenes next month. Or perhaps it will in July."

There's your urgency from the Senate while people suffer. That's why the Senate recess is being hammered.

"The Speaker announced that the House do now adjourn pursuant to section 4(b) of H. Res. 967. The next meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on May 26, 2020." That was Friday. So they're taking Memorial weekend off.

Boaz. Why are you still posting here?

Don't you and all the "cool kids" have some other website to hangout at? Where you can all talk shht about RCade and cry into each other's fat arms?

I'm not sure why RCade allows you to still post here.

You never contribute anything useful and you've done your part in the failed DR civil war.

RCade. Time to cut the fat. Not sure why you want people here who don't contribute anything useful and are actively trying to destroy this place.

#27,

I contribute more than you Clown. Whenever a conservative poster comments, there's usually 5 in retaliation. When a liberal poster posts, no one cares.

We conservatives create traffic. That's a proven fact.

Even #26 and #27 are proof. You didnt even post on topic, you just assaulted me. I dont know why RCADE lets you do that. I would have given you a vacation just for that..

When conservatives post --------, expect they'll be called out on it, BOAZ.

Regarding the House bill:

McConnell wants companies to be immune from liability lawsuits over COVID-19 infections.

What a pickle to put workers in: Show up and risk infection or get fired/laid off. That's what passes for 'compassionate conservatism' these days?

Imagine if your employer demanded you work on site with all their staff there too. You may or may not catch COVID-19, but there's no doubt you'd do a whole lot less goldbricking on their dime.

"McConnell wants companies to be immune from liability lawsuits over COVID-19 infections."

immune? meaning absolutely zero liability?

that would be irresponsible.

But there needs to be something to address this so there is a reasonable balance.

A prudent employer who does what they should could still be exposed to liability if nothing is done and that would be an impossible situation.

As we move through this, I think we'll see a reasonable compromise created......but with loads and loads of political punditry on the side.

EBERLY

On Thursday, President Donald Trump expressed support for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's proposal to include immunity from liability for companies that reopen in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in future coronavirus response legislation. "I think you have to have something having to do with liability for COVID," Trump told reporters. "Because you can't have a restaurant ... and somebody leaves, and they say, Oh, I'm going to sue them,' because they caught the plague. And now, whether he was guilty or not, the legal fees will drive him out of business. You can't do that."

Unsurprisingly, Trump's understanding and description of current liability law is facile and wrong. While businesses should be worried about liability issues around their decisions to open to some degree, the risk is nothing like what the president describes.
