Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.

Some stories about the fact that in order to get outside and perhaps, even a little exercise, I played golf over the weekend. The Fake & Totally Corrupt News makes it sound like a mortal sin - I knew this would happen! What they don't say is that it was my first golf in almost...

....3 months and, if I waited 3 years, they would do their usual "hit" pieces anyway. They are sick with hatred and dishonesty. They are truly deranged! They don't mention Sleepy Joe's poor work ethic, or all of the time Obama spent on the golf course, often flying to....

....Hawaii in a big, fully loaded 747, to play. What did that do to the so-called Carbon Footprint? He also played moments after the brutal killing by ISIS of a wonderful young man. Totally inappropriate - and it was me who shattered 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. I was left a MESS!

Trump was also late for the Wreath-Laying Ceremony. People were fidgeting and starting to look around, including some in uniform.

I don't think I've seen that before. I thought it was shameful. Other than Trump's show of disrespect, it was a beautiful ceremony.

Trump also wished everyone an "HAPPY Memorial Day". He has no clue whatsoever as to what it is that America is memorializing today.

I just noticed.

If date/time stamp on Trump twitter is accurate, it was just a minute or so after the Memorial Day Laying of the Wreath Ceremony this morning.

The date/time stamp on Trump's twitter (Gal's #1) backs up your opinion.

I support and thank the members of the armed forces, even while I do not support the purpose.

The individuals are people doing a job. They should be thanked for what they have to do to do that job, but at some point, humans have to stop doing that job.

Some jobs that will never stop and should never stop, and that require no less sacrifice, still go unthanked.

I get the sentiment, and it shouldn't be said by anyone in political office ("Statesman").
My parents wished me a happy Memorial Day, and instead of correcting it I thought of the three friends lost over the last couple years who won't be here to grill and hangout today. They were the type of folks who enjoyed serving the nation in their roles, had big dreams, but were also the first to embrace a day off for beers and a cookout.
So cook some meats and have a brew in their memory.

Trump can be a victim even on Memorial Day. What a sick, pathetic POS is our President.

I watched him on TV. What exercise? Walking from the golf cart to hit is shot? this man does not exercise at all. I exercise more than he does walking my dog.

Thank you to everyone who stepped up to serve. An extra special thanks to those who served but live their lives with a quiet dignity and resist constant requests for praise, while our brothers and sisters are still out there protecting us.

When politics fail, it is left to us to pick up our swords and protect our loved ones.

I'm remembering Chris, who grew up three doors down. Though he was an older kid, he was always really cool to me, talking electric guitars and amps, letting me jam with him. He was drafted during Vietnam, assigned to combat infantry, and came home addicted to heroin, distant, completely changed, and suffering all the symptoms of what we now know as PTSD. He took his own life 2 months later.

Names such as Chris' should also be recognized as casualties of war.

Twin,

If correct, this is what he tweeted before the ceremony:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

A time to honor and remember the fallen. TY Without you, there would be no US/us.

While I have no problem honoring the individual sacrifice, having to go to war is always a failure, and should not be celebrated.

Maybe. Depends. Love comes in so many varieties.

How about this one:

"These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which as they kiss consume: the sweetest honey
Is loathsome in his own deliciousness
And in the taste confounds the appetite:
Therefore love moderately; long love doth so;
Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow."
