I remember the last time things were this screwed up, Humphrey, a decent human being lost to a soulless lawyer named Nixon. When people are in fear, they look for strength. Humphrey looked weak, especially during the convention in Chicago. I give credit to Abby Hoffman and the SDS giving Nixon the boost that made him president. We all knew he was slimy, but he wasn't any one's punk ether.
Tensions escalating in China, a pandemic we are still dealing with, and now riots. Biden, old foot in mouth, does not inspire anyone. He is the best the Jackass party can do? If you think this situation is going to hurt that damn Yankee, you are sadly mistaken. It will give him a second term. Especially if some federal troops kill a few rioters. I fully expect it to happen, don't want to see it but this is far from my first rodeo. When it is a contest between left and right and violence is a factor, the left looses every time.

Biden is what's being forced upon the Dems.

I don't know what it is about the DNC, but they are hell bent on getting the 'next in line' candidate elected, regardless of precedent.

If it wasn't for this pandemic, I'd say he doesn't have a shot in hell.

Now? The future is unpredictable in any credible sense.

It is escalating. Probably because this is the umpteenth time something like has happened and no change came about because of it.

This is a perfect storm of ugliness. Bored, frustrated and desperate people focusing their rage on a single topic that is particularly inflammatory.

I wish we had competent politicians to deal with this. In KC the cops came ready to fight. Even with teenagers and moms there. The cops were kneeling to put on their gear, in a move made in solidarity with the murderer cop. Where are all the folks who were anti-oppression just a few days ago? This is ridiculous.

A friend of mine shared a photo with me this afternoon of a bunch of Boogaloos getting out of a car in downtown Louisville today loaded for bear. They were all wearing Hawaiian shirts and carrying long guns. The car had Tennessee plates. Louisville is about 150 miles north of Tennessee. They came here looking for trouble. Right wing agitator -------- are not welcome in my city.

#4 | Posted by snoofy Your defining characters as left would be humorous if it wasn't so wrong. Ho and Mao were authoritarian Marxist, far from left, according to your own definition. The founding fathers set up a government extremely limited in it's scope, not a leftist trait at all. The Civil war victors were pro business and absolute nationalist. After they won, it was the "gilded age", which saw the rise of vast fortunes amassed by industrialist and railroads, not particularly left wing. After "reconstruction" the south returned to a cast system which mirrored slavery. Basically the civil war accomplished nothing except making Yankees feel superior as long as they could keep it poor.

Trump is inviting Putin to visit the US, canning IGs and putting loyalists in the top intel positions while Barr neglects to mention rightwing agitators among the rioters. FUBAR:

Russia Trying to Stoke U.S. Racial Tensions Before Election, Officials Say

Russian intelligence services are trying to incite violence by white supremacist groups to sow chaos in the United States, American intelligence officials said.

WASHINGTON " The Russian government has stepped up efforts to inflame racial tensions in the United States as part of its bid to influence November's presidential election, including trying to incite violence by white supremacist groups and to stoke anger among African-Americans, according to seven American officials briefed on recent intelligence.

Russia's lead intelligence agency, the S.V.R., has apparently gone beyond 2016 methods of interference, when operatives tried to stoke racial animosity by creating fake Black Lives Matter groups and spreading disinformation to depress black voter turnout. Now, Russia is also trying to influence white supremacist groups, the officials said; they gave few details, but one official said federal investigators are examining how at least one neo-Nazi organization with ties to Russia is funded.

Other Russian efforts, which American intelligence agencies have tracked, involve simply prodding white nationalists to more aggressively spread hate messages and amplifying their invective. Russian operatives are also trying to push black extremist groups toward violence, according to multiple officials, though they did not detail how.

How far should a riotous mob go before someone starts shooting? Honest question. For you.

I KNOW way too many gun owners that draw that line way too early. And it produces George Zimmerman and the white guys who shoot that young man jogging in Georgia.

In our gun-ified nation, defense with a gun, with is easily legally justifiable, is always a solution we reach for.

Curious - on the "MN Gov" thread you said (about the peaceful protesters):

From looking at all the TV coverage, no reporter has asked anyone to see their antifa card.

If visual verification is the only test, didn't we complain about this method as being wrong because we are sterotyping how we identify.

Anyway, I am not trained to ID antifa, but the videos dont seem to show all the violence being done is by the sterotypical antifa member ID.

Fires start at the fringe. The most violent and destructive seem to be privileged white kids who live out of their parents basement, at least if arrest records are an indication. Black people who protest have expelled Antifa from their ranks, for good reason. Black block adventures don't advance any cause, they just justify more force by the state in response. Looters are just individuals taking advantage of a situation, and eventually some are going to get shot.
You can moan about "black rage", being locked down and prevented from working had more to do with the current situation than the murder of a single black man. Many are facing eviction. Many are broke and are trapped in the prospect that they may not be able to return to earning a living for months. Then perhaps years to return to the same standard of living they were enjoying until March.
What I fear is "white rage", that is considerably more dangerous. It has appeared, and has been prevalent for our entire history. The Nazis had their Untermensch we have "them" or "those people". Progress is not guaranteed. The Klan, or some White League could reappear. All sorts of injustice could be put into law by politicians who give their constituents what they demand. We could become more tribal, self ghettoization by those in walled communities could become common place spanning lower socioeconomic levels. Like the mill towns down south for example.
The Chinese have a better prospective, the Chinese character for crisis is the combination of danger and opportunity. We can take advantage of the opportunity this crisis presents, or surrender to our fears.

Long, hot summer of 1967 refers to the 159 race riots that erupted across the United States in 1967.[2][3][4] In June there were riots in Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Buffalo, and Tampa. In July there were riots in Birmingham, Chicago, New York City, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New Britain, Rochester, and Plainfield.

Yeah in typical republicl0wn fashion... fix a "democrat problem" by inserting an idiot for two terms.

Nixon's bold plan for Vietnam was to launch the largest bombing campaign in world history... against Cambodia... and still, lose a war against the "commies". Nixon purposely stayed involved in Vietnam for the sole purpose of reelection. Those are facts... on record.

He also left Jimmy Carter with a dire economic crisis which at that time (we were so innocent back then)was the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression... a recurring theme of republicl0wnery.

Woopie, here we go again. Guess what clowns... the left is going to get a lot of traction over this.

Absolutely correct sir. I predicted it when people were talking about his secret plan to get us out of Vietnam. He had no plan and actually did commit treason before the election by promising the S. Vietnamese a better deal if they would pull out of the Paris Peace Talks and that is actually documented, on tape, from LBJ's Oval Office conversation with Everett Dirkson.
