A majority of white Americans still cannot come to terms with what black people have known forever: Racism is systemic, systematic, and nowhere near gone. White America must step up not just for peace, but for justice.

A view from Europe...

More from the op-ed:

...The images of burning police cars, clouds of tear gas, looted stores, law enforcement officers pushing civilians to the ground and protesters marching undeterred are startling and shocking for us Americans, but they are not surprising.

The video of an African American man dying on camera under the weight of a white police officer's knee on his neck is gruesome and shocking. They, too, are not surprising " we have seen videos like these before.

Echoes of the 2015 protests in Ferguson, Missouri, come to mind; for older generations, it is deja vu to the Rodney King riots of 1992 and lynchings during the civil rights movement.

But today's mass protests are gripping the nation at a time when a pandemic has claimed more than 100,000 lives, with more than 30 million unemployed, sky-high wage and income inequality and political polarization that is tearing the country apart.

It now feels like the US is reaching a breaking point. The future of the country seems bleak and uncertain. What we are seeing is "American carnage" " but not of the sort Donald Trump likely imagined when he strangely invoked that term at his presidential inauguration....

The sad part is there has been a ton of research about how the media incites racism and it's all out there with simple Google searches, but people don't care to actually research. There are university studies from Liberal outlets involved, as well. There are metrics to show how disproportionate the coverage is by the media and that the percent of crime done by black people is way below the actual representation of black crimes being covered. It's useless to try to get people to do the research because people just want to believe their own narrative and know that research may prove them wrong.

The Internet gave humanity the ability to rise above and we use it to maintain the status quo. It's very sad.

Before replying off the cuff and not doing any research because you are a sheep, here is just one link to prove me right. It has plenty of links in it to research. After reading this, I Googled the problem and found so much more research.

www.americanprogress.org

Sure, racism still exists. There are still problems to fix. But people rioting and looting are doing so with false conclusions from incorrect assumptions. Until that is fixed, racism isn't going to end. And the fix is to hold the media accountable for their part in spreading racism and keeping it alive for profit.

But, go ahead, continue to blame Trump for racism, coronavirus, etc. Since the country is all about reporting problems without regard for facts or research, you just fit right in. Thank you for making sure the media stays wealthy.

From the very first paragraph of your link:

"From the start of his presidency, Donald Trump has consistently proven his effectiveness at using fear as a political weapon. At his 2016 inauguration, President Trump claimed that the United States was ridden with poverty and "rampant crime," vowing to put an end to this "American carnage." Since then, he has perpetuated false claims that murder rates are rising overall, even though violent crime rates declined in the nation's largest cities in 2017, continuing the national trend of reduced crime. President Trump has also put unauthorized immigrants at the center of crime by exaggerating the scope and threat of MS-13."

Sniper, you really believe systemic racism exists?

Is systemic racism bad?

What should Trump do about this problem that got worse under Obama?

Trump should appoint someone that:
1. Knows what they're doing with race issues.
2. Knows what they're doing with riot issues.
3. Knows what they're doing with economic issues beyond frigging Wall Street.
4. Knows what they're doing with disease preparedness and pandemic services.

Trump should go golfing and let the pros do their jobs - for a change.
