Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

As of May 29, his 1,226th day in office, Trump had made 19,127 false or misleading claims, according to the Fact Checker's database that analyzes, categorizes and tracks every suspect statement he has uttered. That's almost 16 claims a day over the course of his presidency. So far this year, he's averaging just over 22 claims a day, similar to the pace he set in 2019.

The coronavirus pandemic has spawned a whole new genre of Trump's falsehoods. The category in just a few months has reached 800 claims, with his advocacy for hydroxychloroquine as a possible cure, based on minimal and flimsy evidence, already reaching Bottomless Pinocchio status.

It takes at least 20 repeats of a Three- or Four-Pinocchio claim to merit a Bottomless Pinocchio, and there are now 39 entries.

Is there any doubt that one of Donald Trump's sole superpowers is lying?

Nothing personal Tony. But the choir already knows this. And the Trump zealots will simply call the WaPo "fake news". It seems like a waste of time to even bring it up anymore.

It would take a lot less time and effort to keep track of how many times Trump has told the truth.

And the Trump zealots will simply call the WaPo "fake news".

But it isn't. And they document every single claim with the actual quotation of the exact words coming out of Trump's mouth.

Trump's argument isn't that he hasn't said these lies, it's that what he readily admits saying ISN'T in fact a lie. Trump is trying to turn simple truth into a subjective free-for-all. And that is not his call to make nor of the ignorant who'd rather believe him than what he'd call their own lying eyes and ears.

So for the sake of not normalizing the abnormal, we HAVE to memorialize all the abhorrence of Donald Trump and continue to shine disinfecting light upon his voluminous lies and distortions.

It's not 1984, it's 2020. Truth has to matter and lies need to be called lies.

In the first year of his presidency Trump's lies were met with rolling eyes. In the second year it was squinched-up faces that came out when Trump let loose the daily whopper. In the third year, his allies stated 'those are his words' and the press wore out the word 'false'. Only now, very carefully, are politicians and those in the press calling them 'falsehoods'. Almost no one is calling them what they are, i.e., lies.

The saddest part is that for the first 2-3 years of the Biden administration, MAGA-hatters will question those who state that up is up and down is down...

The Trump effect: totally okay with the fact that the President is a pathological liar, falsely accuses others of lying.

Parents tell their children that lying is wrong. Now we live in a world where adults have to be told too.

"Nazi theory indeed specifically denies that such a thing as the truth' exists. There is, for instance, no such thing as Science' ... If the Leader says of such and such an event, It never happened'"well, it never happened. If he says that two and two are five"well, two and two are five. This prospect frightens me much more than bombs."
