Pope Francis said he had witnessed with "great concern" the social unrest sweeping the United States, calling racism intolerable and the recent violence "self-destructive and self-defeating." The leader of the Catholic Church said he would pray for Floyd and all those who had lost their lives as a result of "the sin of racism" and urged Americans to move toward "national reconciliation and peace."

Imagine having a President able to encapsulate the competing emotions of a heart-rendering, complex moment in 4 simple sentences. Imagine what these words would have meant to a nation on tilt - dealing with multiple, life altering crises at the same instant. Imagine the moral leadership and hope these sentences convey to everyone fortunate enough to hear them.

Now leave your imagination and face our reality. No leadership, no vision, no understanding, no compassion, no remorse, no regret, and worst of all, no understanding of the human struggle for universal justice and equality. Trump's America is a rudderless frigate run aground - with its hull ripped open upon the rocks of hatred, violence, and injustice - while its dunsel captain continues to yell "Full speed ahead."
