Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, June 04, 2020

The images of this past week are both inescapable and indelible: protesters flooding the streets of cities across the United States, met by police forces equipped with full body armor and tactical vehicles that vaguely resemble tanks. The local law enforcement responding to even nonviolent protests has often looked more like the US Armed Forces -- and that was before President Donald Trump deployed an actual military police battalion against peaceably assembled US citizens in the nation's capitol Monday.

The SWAT Teams are supposed to be used only for high danger situations.

But because most cities can't justify their costs, they get used for arresting low level criminals and even serving warrants on people.

A little recent history...

Obama bans some military equipment sales to police
www.usatoday.com

...President Obama has banned the sale of some kinds of military equipment to local law enforcement agencies, following widespread criticism of a paramilitary-like response to riots in a St. Louis suburb last August.

In doing so, Obama put his stamp on the recommendations of a multi-agency federal working group that endorsed a ban on sales of some military equipment and providing more training, supervision and oversight of others.

"We've seen how militarized gear can sometimes give people a feeling like they're an occupying force, as opposed to a force that's part of the community that's protecting them and serving them," Obama said in a speech in Camden, N.J. Monday. He said military equipment can "alienate and intimidate local residents and may send the wrong message."...

Trump Order Resurfaces Debate about "Militarizing" Police
www.scientificamerican.com

...Pres. Donald Trump was swept into office largely due to campaign promises that he would dismantle a number of his predecessor's signature programs. Although his efforts to reverse Obama-era reforms to health care and immigration policy remain a very gradual work in progress, Trump recently revoked a 2015 executive order limiting the availability of surplus military gear"tracked vehicles, grenade launchers, bayonets and certain other equipment"to state and local law enforcement agencies....

The question then is when did Derek Chauvin obtain his knee.

@#3 ... The question then is when did Derek Chauvin obtain his knee. ...

If you ask the wrong question, it is likely you will get a wrong answer.

I think the questions that need to be asked are whether or not Mr Chauvin was trained to use his knee in that manner and for that purpose, and was the use of the knee in such a manner a systemic process?

I know a SWAT guy who kills every dog he comes across. We were laughing the other summer about a Yorkie that he popped. I'll never forget it. I knew him before the 'roids and the tats and I'll never talk to him again if I can.

No wonder we've got tanks sitting in intersections in McLennan County, Texas. What are they doing...directing traffic?

It's funny because you hate Obama almost as much as you hate life itself.

And yet you never once complained about cop crime under Obama.

No stupid, police abuse/crime is probably higher but there are fewer federal investigations, prosecutions and consent decrees as Dotard's DOJ has turned a blind eye to police abuse. The last thing Sessions did as AG was to reverse that Obama Administration police. What we are seeing today is local police running roughshod because they feel enabled/encouraged to do so. Just like with the red states and COVID-19, just because you stop counting cases does not make the virus go away!
