Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

David A. Graham: President Donald Trump is trapped inside the White House, as a tall and imposing wall is erected around him, and (officers of the Federal Bureau of Prisons) stand watch. It makes sense that Trump, who won the presidency in part on his promise to build a wall at the southern United States border, would gravitate to the same solution for the White House.

The president is now closed off on many sides. Polls pan his handling of both the protests of police brutality and the coronavirus pandemic. He's facing unusual criticism from his former secretary of defense and a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as more muted but unmistakable pushback from the current holders of both positions. A series of recent polls shows him trailing presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden. Trump has never been especially open to outside or contradictory opinions, and he has fewer of those available, as his administration is composed largely of loyalists.

Trump may believe the show of force in Lafayette Square makes him seem more powerful, but the more he closes up - physically and figuratively - the more isolated and smaller he becomes.

Another commentator recognizes the same intersection of Trump's rhetoric and his current reality:
Now, in one of the most surreal moments of his failed presidency, Donald Trump is building a wall around himself - literally. He's so afraid of the peaceful protesters across the street from the White House, he's walling himself in.

Donald Trump building a wall around himself, to keep Americans out, is almost too perfect of a metaphor for what a failure he is, what a coward he is, and how at odds he is with America. I've been waiting for this moment. I just didn't think it would happen in such literal fashion.

(L)et's keep in mind that by simply protesting peacefully outside the White House, we've goaded Donald Trump into building a wall around himself. - Bill Palmer

And Mexico is going to pay for it!!!

Nope. Just like the other one, the American taxpayers are footing the bill as always with Donald Trump's administration.

The next question is which one of Trump's personal friends is profiting from the White House wall? Seems he never misses a chance to grift regardless of the circumstances.

I'm waiting to see if they string concertina (razor wire) along the top of that new chain-link fence. If they do, it'll give the White House grounds the appearance of a medium security federal prison, perhaps a bit prophetic in it's symbolism.

Meanwhile, down, down, down in the Fhrerbunker, Bunker Don squeaks and squeals.

Donald Trump finally got his fence!

#8 | Posted by madscientist at 2020-06-05 08:10 AM | Reply

Pelosi does not. That's a lie the right-wing keeps posting that gets ripped to shreds, that then gets repeated by another righty.
Obama has a fence and a gate for the driveway portion. It's a very nice property - nice house, too!

So basically you're full of ----.

Excuse me. I should have said "So basically you're incorrect."

Trump should do what Washington did.

Lead troops in to the rebellion.

Remember your history. The citizens of the US didnt like the law passed. So, they rebelled. They burned a house down.

So, Washington went out at the urging of some famous advisors (remember, the fight was a tax and one home burned).

With armed troops, Washington went in. Those they captured were charged with treason.

Didnt like the law and burned one house and tried for treason.

Yup. Come on Trump. Come out like Washington.

Oh, Washington told people not to aid or abet any of these treasonist people under a real threat (not a fearful dialogue)

You're actually equating Trump with Washington when Trump is George III?
That's hilarious!

"Mr. Lopez Obrador, pay for this wall!" just isn't great oratory in my book.

I do like the imagery of Trump in prison. Right now it's the prison of his mind, the same experienced by many of the mentally ill. In his book "Chronicles, Volume One", Bob Dylan wrote of a mentally ill musician he met when first in New York, writing 'There was a fire between him and the rest of the world' (or something to that effect). Trump isn't there yet, but he has poured the gas on the ground and is playing with matches. Right now...

Trump's desperation is only constrained by his terror but his terror adds to his desperation. Plastered over this sick dynamic is Donald's firmly held ideal that he is, or should be, some sort of god.

We are going to be very, very lucky if Donald Trump doesn't try to burn down the country with him on his way out of power. It's what Hitler tried to do and Hitler has ALWAYS been the closest historical match for Trump.

Contrast Trump's bombastic rhetoric with Biden's small act of kindness:

Peace. Gentleness. Humanity. Thank you for a moment of it @JoeBiden. It's been awhile.

If Trump was smart he would resign so that Pence could pardon him for any federal crimes he has committed, That is what Nixon did and he never went to prison.

The White does not belong to Trump.

It's not a castle.

It's the People's House.

The White House is under siege. By the People what built it.

There appears to be broadening consensus that Donald Trump is a tyrant. This explains ten straight days of demonstrations, as does moral outrage at the death of a helpless man.

Lafayette Park was not abandoned; Lafayette Park was refilled by American patriots. If Trump wants them gone again, he's going to have to order them attacked again.

Humpy Dumpy day on a wall...

Humpy Dumpy has a great fall...

All the Kings horses and all the Kings Men...

Could not silence the rage or scare the People away.

Trumplebunkerboi made himself a chicken coop to avoid the bunker.

Well, he promised a wall... so he gave himself a wall.

So much win-ning.

I'm wondering what the jurisdiction of the BOP is. In WA, Department of Corrections officers only have jurisdiction over DOC active inmates and those on probation, they don't have law enforcement authority on the common citizen. If a BOP officer injures a protester he should have no more legal authority than any other civilian and should be arrested and charged with assault.

The shameful truth about the crybaby Trump is becoming harder to ignore by all but the most strident of sycophants. It's long overdue. He and his apologist base built this.

Make that fortress of fear and fantasy:

Trump notes that the virus is dangerous to people who are "heavy" and then says how grateful he is that he is in and I am not paraphrasing "perfect shape"

Perfect shape and color for a traffic cone! Narrow at the top and very wide at the bottom. You ever notice when you see him wearing his golf costume how narrow his shoulders are and how wide his child-bearing hips are? Least athletic build of any resident of the WH since Taft. Combover Quisling probably uses the Taft bathtub!

I actually I think it is rather sad that not only we do we have such a pathetic and obviously ill man in the President's seat but even more sad and that bizarrely so many Americans still back him and his policies.

Please note Trump's perceptible 'lean' when he's seen in public, usually wearing his signature blue suit and extra long necktie. That 'lean' is due to the 'lifts' in his shoes. Also notice that his dress shoes have higher than normal heels. They say that the only time that you ever see Trump at his actual height of 6'-1", is when he's on the greens wearing golf shoes. When he's in his suit, his height now reaches the 6'-3" level, which is what the White House lists as his official height, in stocking feet.

He also walks very strangely.

He always leans forward like he is about to fall. It makes him look like a gorilla about to lean down to pick up a banana.
