"These plans demonstrate once again that the Trump administration neglects a central element of leadership: the involvement of alliance partners in the decision-making process," Johann Wadephul, deputy leader of Merkel's CDU-led caucus group, said in an emailed statement on Saturday, complaining that the U.S. hadn't notified the German government before the decision. "For us Europeans, this is one more wake-up call to take our destiny with regard to security policy more decisively into our own hands."

"Everybody profits from the cohesion of the Nato alliance, only Russia and China benefit from dispute," Wadephul said.

Merkel showed him up with her C-19 response. Made him look really really really bad by comparison... and he's been reelected twice... she must be punished!!

Merkel's decision to stay away from a Group of Seven meeting that Trump had planned to host in Washington this month had no influence on the planned pullout, the person said.

LOL. Of course not. You'd have to be a petty, vindictive, whiny little bitch if you let that guide strategic military decisions.

The title of this post is incorrect... It would more accurately be:

Merkel didn't accept an invitation from Trump recently. This is how he gets back at her. Trump keeps lists, like the florid sociopath that he is.

Something tells me this is just another one of Trump's empty threats. It's too close to November for Trump to pull a stunt like this and I can't imagine the Pentagon going along with such an egomaniacal decision.

If anybody knows how dangerous and wacko crazy Trump is, it's the Pentagon.

Trump issued a statement that Mark Esper, current Sec. of Defense, had his full support.

Yeah, sure. That's known in Trump's administration as Famous Last Words. However, Esper's not blind.
I'm sure he knows what's coming.

Trump hires a lot of good people. He just can't hang onto them.

To fulfill our commitments to NATO, which of course Putin would love to see disbanded and which Trump himself has already threatened to do on more than one occasion. Allowing NATO to fail would be like winning the lotto for Putin.

But to do it like this without talking with our allies first and do it strategically is ridiculous. It's a gift to Putin.
