Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

One of the defining traits of President Donald Trump's time in office has been the consistency of his poll numbers. No matter what he said, did or tweeted, his numbers stayed steady. Somewhere between 40-45% approved of the job he was doing while 50-55% disapproved. Which is why what Gallup reported in its latest tracking poll, released on Wednesday morning, is so striking.

In addition to his egregious mismanagement of the COVID pandemic and the resulting collapsed economy, neither of which needed to happen.

A quick look at fivethirtyeight shows it's not just a decrease in approval but an increase in disapproval. Some polls showed a 5-6% disapproval increase from a week ago.

That's the more important factor for me. People who shift from approval to on the fence will still likely vote for Trump. People who shift from approval or on the fence to disapproval will not vote for him.

@#4 ... it's not just a decrease in approval but an increase in disapproval. ...

If you scroll down to the chart on the RCP page below, you can see the steep increase in disapproval.

I'm kinda curious how low his ratings could fall.

For instance, if he walked on stage during the RNC and actually acted out The Aristocrats, would he still be at 35% approval?

We may very well find out! A desperate Trump makes for, if nothing else, a fascinating, slow-motion train-wreck of an administration.

Stay tuned! Same bat-crazy time; same bat-crazy channel!

Trump/Putin knows they will lose the election which is why President Trump is intentionally mismanaging the national emergency-in-progress pandemic, to leave as big a mess as possible for President Biden. MAGA

Some have speculated Trump will try to roll out a questionable vaccine in October before it's been proven effective.

To be fair to Carter though, Reagan/Bush I committed treason to convince the Iranians to hold onto American hostages until after the '80 election to swing the results. (They then committed federal crimes again to repay that favor by selling the Iranians arms in violation of our embargo and to illegally channel those funds to the Contras.)

In contrast, our President Cheetolini managed to screw everything up by himself, without outside help.

Don't use that one. They take polls at face value and tend to be way off.

Use FiveThirtyEight.com. They both aggregate the polls and adjust for how bad the pollster's data is filtered and modified.

Republicans are such sheep that if Trump said the movie "Cats" was the greatest of all time, they'd buy tens of millions of copies overnight and protest the movie not winning every award.

This is why his approval rating won't go below 38%.

I look at both, but it's beyond dispute RealClearPolitics is heavily tilted to the right. Most of their 'articles' are opinion pieces from The Federalist, American Greatness, Fox News, and other right wing blogs.

I use RCP because I have found it typically to be quite good once you understand what the chart represents. For example, their Pres Trump approval rating chart is a rolling average of a week or two. So it doesn't necessarily respond quickly to fast dips like the one we are seeing now. I prefer that because it makes trend analysis easier.

538 has been making some political mistakes of late in their ~adjustments.~ Mr Silver did pretty well when he was focused upon the pure stats aspect. Nut once he wandered into the political analysis aspect, he lost his crystal ball.

While the RCP site's articles lean towards the right, their poll charts are usually pretty unbiased. And with their Electoral College chart, if you don't like how RCP uses polling data, they give you the option to insert your own analyses.

The good thing is that there are at least two sites that do a at least a reasonable in aggregating the poll numbers.

All Der Dotard needs is 35-no, 47% of the black vote, to be re-elected. He'll get that based on his strong response to the civil unrest in our cities. Not...
