Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, June 20, 2020

US attorney general William Barr announced the resignation on Friday of an influential attorney who oversaw key prosecutions of allies of Donald Trump and an investigation into Rudy Giuliani -- but it appeared the attorney in question had other ideas. "I have not resigned, and have no intention of resigning," said Geoffrey Berman, adding he learned of his apparent departure as attorney for the Southern District of New York from a justice department press release.

"I will step down when a presidentially appointed nominee is confirmed by the Senate. Until then, our investigations will move forward without delay or interruption. I cherish every day that I work with the men and women of this office to pursue justice without fear or favor " and intend to ensure that this office's important cases continue unimpeded," he said in a statement on Friday night.

Thanks to Trump, The U.S. Justice Dept has become the "Just Trump" department.

No doubt Trump or the Trump Organization is under investigation so they fired the U.S. attorney who'd already investigated several in Trump's circle to thwart those investigations. The best case scenario is it was retribution by Trump through Barr for previous investigations and prosecutions.

BTW, Berman donated to Trump's 2016 campaign.

And let's not forget that in John Bolton's upcoming book, he describes how Trump promised Turkish president Erdoan that he would take care of the Justice Department's investigation and indictment of Turkey's Halkbank. Well guess which DOJ office is handling that case? Yep, the Southern District of New York, where Geoffrey Berman is the US Attorney. Coincidence? I think not...

Berman may have a leg to stand on regarding Barr's inability to fire him:

He was never hired to be the U.S. Attorney, only appointed on an interim basis. The initial appointment by the Justice Department is 120 days. According to 28 USC s546(d), if there is no replacement at that time, the district court appoints someone to serve "until the vacancy is filled." Berman is there by court order, and leaves (in theory) only when Trump gets a replacement confirmed by the Senate.

I hope he puts his foot down and fights Trump all the way to the SC if need be!

I had the same thought when I read about this earlier this morning.

The Deep State is those people in government who abide by their oath to the Constitution. Pres Trump wants everyone in government to be loyal to him, not the Constitution.

Drain The Swamp means removing those from government who maintain their loyalty to the Constitution.

From the Guardian:

"In the words of Steve Vladeck, a widely read commentator and professor of law at the University of Texas: "It's worth not losing sight of the fact that the Attorney General of the United States out-and-out lied in a written statement and in a context in which there could have been little question to him that Berman would publicly call him out for doing so. And he did it anyway.""

And Voice of America (VOA), too. That ought to be a thread on its own. Unbelievable.

By the way, Berman was appointed by Jeff Sessions 'Jared' pushed for his appointment, was a Trump donor, and had worked on Trump's transition team.

Two DOJ officials are scheduled to appear before the House Judiciary committee on Wednesday to testify about Barr's machinations with Roger Stone's prosecution. Apparently there is hope that Berman may be called as well.

As I've posited before, I seems that the imperfect storm is now hitting Trump from all sides and exposing his criminality, abdication of constitutional responsibilities, abject ignorance, and total incompetence all at once, basically destroying his administration from within.

Unfortunately for us, it's taken nearly four long years too long for the reality of his malevolence to reach critical mass and now it has and continues to needlessly cost hundreds of American lives each and every day.

Tip of the iceberg.

Trump has devolved into a raging bull.

As the threat of November 3rd moves closer every day, I have feeling that "arbitrary" and "capricious" will be the nicest things we'll remember of him.

As ugly as it might be we're going to witness history being made.

Maybe a movie: The Day America Almost Died.

@#14 ... As the threat of November 3rd moves closer every day ...

The trump re-election team already has some items queued up for release over the course of the summer.

Notable, AG Barr has said that Mr Durham will be releasing his investigation's report this summer. If I had to guess, I'd say August, since that is an important time in campaigning. As both AG Barr and Mr Durham have already cast a political taint of the investigation, I suspect there will be few surprises in its content.

Mr Giuliani has been working in Europe to create damaging evidence about Mr Biden. So I suspect the results of his endeavours will come to light over the summer as well.

It's going to be a long summer (which starts today at 5:44pm EDT, btw).

BaFin to Deepen Deutsche Bank Money Laundering Investigation (Feb 2019)
www.financemagnates.com

...Deutsche Bank released a statement on Friday saying that BaFin, the German financial regulator, has extended the remit of an independent auditor examining the lender's role in the Danske Bank money laundering scandal.

The case stems from an ongoing investigation into the Danish bank's Estonian division.

After a whistle-blower sounded the alarm about the activity of certain customers, most of whom were from Russia and the former Soviet Union, in late 2018, it became apparent that Danske Bank's Tallinn-based operations were doing business with some less than scrupulous individuals.

It is alleged that the bank laundered around $225 billion from 2007 to 2014. If that is the case, it would potentially be the largest instance of money laundering ever uncovered.

Deutsche Bank falls into the mix as it acted as Danske Bank's main correspondent bank. According to the Financial Times, the German bank was responsible for facilitating $180 billion in suspicious transactions....
