The vintage 'Gator Bait' chant is no longer, as Florida attempts to combat racism and social injustices within the institution. On Thursday, the University of Florida President Kent Fuchs released a statement introducing a myriad of plans to combat racism and social injustice from within the Florida campus. As part of that plan, one issue arose regarding the controversy surrounding the school's use of "Gator Bait" as a chant for their athletic events. "While I know of no evidence of racism associated with our "Gator Bait" cheer at UF sporting events, there is horrific historic racist imagery associated with the phrase. Accordingly University Athletics and the Gator Band will discontinue the use of the cheer," Fuchs said

Of course that's the real reason this chant became popular - it's literally threatening to disappear opponents into the swamp. ----------- Floridians love acting publicly belligerent and racist so I highly doubt this chant will ever be fully squashed without filling every gator with bait.. and I doubt the white meat is less fatty, but definitely more coked and liquored. Sobek will be pleased.

Meh, all of this will go away after the election. What Libs call human rights violations today are examples of incidents that have been happening for thousands of years yet Lib history stops going back past the ~16th century. Nobody is calling for the ban or removal of all Roman inspired artifacts in America, and they were a huge supporter of slaves. Nobody is calling for the removal of African artifacts from America and Africans were by far the biggest abusers of slaves in history...and they enslaved their own people along with those of specific religions. Sadly enough, many African nations still rely on slavery for political and economic gain. But yeah, .0011% of Americans dying because of an even less amount of troublemakers is cause for a national emergency.

It's just all noise until the election is over. It can't come soon enough. I have little patience around babies when they cry and that same exact feeling comes around every 4 years when Libs have to create mass hysteria about whatever their flavor of the day problem is. Sure wish they cared about sex slavery...seems that's a form of slavery they just ignore. Probably because the rich Dems aretoo busy being friends with the ones who support it.

Still happens. Popular in Islam. Their prophet owned slaves.

The wild thing is, is that the majority of fans and alums didn't know of this connection to Florida history.
The "Gator Bait" chant originated in 1995, when former Gators defensive back Lawrence Wright famously said "if you ain't a Gator, ya Gator bait, baby" following a win over rival Florida State...
"I'm not going for it," Wright added. "I created something for us. It's a college football thing. It's not a racist thing, It's about us, the Gator Nation. And I'm black."
