Palm Beach County commissioners in Florida voted unanimously Tuesday to require residents wear masks. Several resident spoke out against the move, some giving biblical arguments against masks. "Every single one of you has a smirk behind that little mask, but you're going to get punished by God," a resident said calling the new mandate the "devil's law."

We had that.
The test was harder if you're black.
That's why it had to go away eventually.
If we bring it back, it will just be used to suppress unwanted (minority) voters again.
Which we already do in plenty of other ways; recently by simply closing polling places in minority areas.

Well...if you were looking to be efficient you'd start with registered Republicans...

Super efficient would be start with Trump supporters.

But in the interests of fairness, test everybody. You can even administer the same test digitally and set a cutoff point.

Say...the bottom 35% can't vote.

Those are standardized tests like SATs where quality of education makes a huge difference.

That's not the kind of test that would be used to make sure you're of sound mind.

For instance, the first question would be "do you think qanon is real?". There would be cameras measuring your eye movement and if you take the time to think about it bzzzzttt test done. Voter rights revoked.

I was a poll worker for 10 years and was stationed near where voters viewed the posted sample ballots. A surprising number were just looking for the names with an "R" next to them.

Political parties are just private clubs and have no business being on ballots. Remove the "D" and "R" and those too dumb to vote without them will stay home.

No doubt. Gracie though said this about Jim Crow testing of Blacks:

We had that. The test was harder if you're black.

Even in JPW's sarcasm he didn't say that. The truth is not just what Gracie said, however. It was far worse. In some locations Whites didn't need to take a test, so the test could be impossible to pass from the start.

Not that it mattered. Your score was up to the Registrar who determined how well you did. Even if you got it all right, and a white person failed it all, the Registrar would deny the black person from voting and approve the white person. Even worse, they'd take your information on the form, your address, name, who you worked for, and they'd give it to the Citizen's Council and the KKK. You have to have permission from your boss to register, and if your boss was white and had a business, that business would be boycotted or worse. You, if you were black, would become a target of the KKK for daring to register.

You also had to face Poll taxes, Police intimidation, Economic retaliation, and of course, White terrorism.

If you read this article, be sure to check the Louisiana "literacy" test they have included. Blacks couldn't prove a fifth grade literacy level, so they'd have to take this test instead.

Florida Residents Offer Biblical Arguments against Masks

Good grief!

Bet these God-waving idiots are 'pro-life' too, right?

Something so simple they can do that's entire premise is to save lives - wearing a mask and social distancing - yet somehow 'God' would be opposed to it. To extrapolate, 'God' wants them to spread virus and kill people. Not very 'pro-life.'

No Shirt
No Shoes
No Mask
No Service

Would they be happy eating or shopping next to someone without a shirt or shoes and dirty feet?

Tests to qualify for voting were part of Jim Crow era forms of suppressing black voters. Even bringing the concept back up in 2020 is disgusting. Everyone should have the right to vote and no one should have the right to decide you are too stupid or too crazy to exercise your right. I honestly don't think that, in this thread, the concept was originally brought up seriously, I've said similar things myself but never actually seriously. Such as, I've said that no one who voted for George W. Bush twice should get to vote again. Yes I said it, but I thought most of the people posting here understood I was being sarcastic, I didn't want to deprive anyone of their right to vote but I did want to remind them of their obvious stupidity.

That is really dangerous ground.

But maybe the President should. But that is a tough one too.

No one could have predicted that a sociopath would make it to the White House. The dude can't even tweet a coherent sentence.

Donald Trump proves he is a criminally negligent sociopath:

Reporter: "What do you say to the Americans who are scared, though? Nearly 200 dead, 14,000 who are sick, millions, as you've witnessed, who are scared right now. What do you say to Americans who are watching you right now who are scared?"

Trump: "I say that you're a terrible reporter. That's what I say. I think it's a very nasty question, and I think it's a very bad signal that you're putting out to the American people. The American people are looking for answers and they're looking for hope, and you're doing sensationalism and the same with NBC and con-cast. I don't call it Comcast, I call it con-cast.' Let me just tell you something. That's really bad reporting, and you ought to get back to reporting instead of sensationalism."

Reminder: The death toll is now above 125,000 and still no words of comfort or hope from this sociopath.

"Then you weren't paying attention. "

I meant BT. Before Trump. AT is easy to see what happened.

You have to give him some credit. Even if he is a moron. He did something no one thought would or could happen. He cheated. A lot. With foreign help even. Right in front of us. And bragged about it. Right to our faces. Practically begged to be impeached. And Congress could do nothing about it. That is why he knew he could say what he said. And do what he has done. And get away with it. And now he has Barr. The damage will take years maybe decades to undo. (If we survive the pandemic) He either had already figured out the "cheat code" or was extremely lucky and blundered into office.

So. That's why I think that Before we knew of the possibility of a Trump being elected (BT) no one could have predicted that our system would not be able to correct itself or even protect itself from someone like Trump.

The Fathers DID worry about it and thought they had checks and balances in place but we could not make them work without the Senate. I know I did NOT see a Trumpy coming. I really thought it would be impossible for someone like him to win. But win he did.

After he won I had to go get my believer fixed. It was so broke I didn't know what to believe for a few days.
