Colorado has reopened the investigation into the death of Elijah McClain after an online petition garnered more than 3 million signatures. McClain, a black male, died in police custody in 2019. He was stopped when he was walking home from a convenience store by police responding after a 911 caller who had driven by Elijah claimed he "looks sketchy" and said "he might be a good person or a bad person." Four cops showed up to confront McClain. It is unclear what reason the police gave him for the stop but body cam show they grabbed him and he tensed up and told the cops he was an unarmed, nonviolent introvert and to respect his boundaries. They placed him in a chokehold and took the 140lb vegetarian to the ground. One cop kneeled on his chest while two others held him down and handcuffed him. One cop is heard telling another to move his body cam out of view before claiming McClain went for one of their guns. Another is heard threatening to get a dog to bite him.
The cops called the Aurora Fire Dept who injected the already cuffed McClain with ketamine. He went into cardiac arrest and spent 6 days in a coma before his family opted to end life support.
