"Cloth face coverings are meant to protect other people in case the wearer is unknowingly infected but does not have symptoms," the CDC said. Researchers say the payoff would be enormous. If 95% of Americans wore face masks in public, it could prevent 33,000 deaths by October 1, according to the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

I'm sure Donald Trump wanted to give free masks to everybody but he was busy covering his a** for shipping the National Strategic Stockpile of emergency medical supplies to China.

Trump is so immoral that afterwards he tried to blame doctors and hospitals for the shortage and accused them of selling critical medical supplies "out the back door."

That's what kind of low life Trump is.

Low life is right!

He's been too busy being obsessed with TV ratings and Big Macs during 'executive time' to care about our national stockpile of PPE .. or any of us.

It appears now that the coronavirus has beaten Donald Trump to a standstill. It's just too big and too long range for his day-trader mind to grasp. I think he's accepted the fact that a vaccine will never arrive in time, which means there's no kudos in it for him. He won't be able to brag that he singlehandedly cured the worse pandemic the world had ever seen.

Trump is being bombarded with his own failures from all directions.

Tulsa was a stake in the heart. "Trump the Omnipotent and Omniscient" could not fill a stadium in a crimson red state ~ neon even.

However, it's time to re-prioritize. There are still some children on the southern border that he can torture.

"Low life is right!"

I call it the shallow end of the gene pool. He ain't got no class.

#4 | Posted by Twinpac at 2020-06-29 06:18 AM | Reply

He's a straight up clinical Sociopath,
he literally, doesn't care about other people.
It likely extends to most of his immediate family
as well. In Donald's World, everyone is there to
serve Donald. As soon as they stop serving Donald,
they either become expendable, the "Enemy", or both.

The frightening thing is, his deep Core Supporters,
all of these racist Karen's, and paramilitary wannabes,
they are just like him. Quasi or pseudo sociopaths.
Some of them are even true sociopaths. We live in a
country, where 30% of its inhabitants dwell on the
sociopathic spectrum... So basically 1 in 3 people,
is a nut just waiting to pop!

Orange Idi Amin knows that he cannot fix this quickly and easily.

He knows masks are needed, but doesn't want to anger his mornoic voters.

The only thing he had working for him going into 2020 was the economy and his willful negligent behavior in January and February screwed the pooch.

It took W 8 years to crash the Clinton boom. This moron cratered Obama's in three.

There is a lesson here, one I know the GOP will not learn...don't elect a low IQ, sociopathic, narcissistic, criminal failed reality tv host to lead the nation.

He might even throw them some alms.

Trump thought if he pretended the virus wasn't as bad as it was it would just go away on its own and the economy (the entire premise of his re-election campaign) would do better. Unfortunately he knows nothing about pandemics. Facts don't care about his feelings. Trump finally found something he can't bluster his way through.

"Trump finally found something he can't bluster his way through."

No more "Lock her up!"
No more "Who's going to pay for the wall!"
No more "30 thousand emails!"
No more "3.5 unemployment!"
NO more "Rudy Giuliani!"
No more "Love letters from Kim John-un!"
No more "2016!"

No more, no more, no more.

Now what's Mr. Empty Pants going to do?

Where would the "free masks" come from? Who would supply the materials and would they be paid, by whom? Would slaves provide labor to make them or would they be paid, by whom? Free to you is not free to me.

Can we stop with the "Freedom" crutch to explain away bad choices and piss poor behavior. We don't have the freedom to run red lights; nor the feeedom to yell fire in a theater. Wearing a mask does not make you are me less free; just a responsible citizen.

@#12 ... Wearing a mask does not make you are me less free; just a responsible citizen. ...

From the outset, Pres Trump has used the pandemic and, subsequently, the wearing of maasks as a political issue.

Last week he chastised a White House reporter who was wearing a mask as being "politically correct" for doing so.

Leadership, la Pres Trump.

What's 0.5% of the US population?

#16 | Posted by snoofy at 2020-06-29 11:36 AM | Reply

@#15 ... per the CDCs projections over 20 million have been infected. if true, the Fatality Rate is about .5%..........NO longer a Pandemic ...

The numbers you cite, to the contrary of your assertion, point even stronger to COVID-19 being a pandemic.

A pandemic is determined by, among other things, the extent of the infections, not necessarily the death rate.

You seriously don't know who would pay for it?

Who is paying now?

Who pays for all of Trumpy's mistakes?

Who paid for Trumpy's tax scam?

Who paid for Trumpy's golf?

Who paid for Trumpy's chocolate cake and tomahawk missle party?

Who pays for caging kids?

Who paid for Trumpy's wall? (ok Mexico is paying for that!)

Who is paying for Mr Trumps Wild Ride and now his crashed economy?

We are.

And we will be paying for many many years. And if he gets elected again, Gawd forbid! Your children will pay.

And pay and pay.

Considering how much money is going to multinational conglomerates they could at least give us a couple of reusable masks each.

HRC was right about the Trump supporters, many of whom argue like four year olds when told to wear a mask. They screech about 'freedom', 'I can't breathe in one' or 'I'm an American and you're not going to tell me...'

When Trump gets COVID, it will be far too late for them, and their blaming of (insert name here) will ring as hollow as can be...

How much will a vaccine cost and who is paying for it?

If the mask was drug that dramatically reduces your chances of catching CV would you wear it?

If it was a drug who would pay for it?

All CV related treatments are supposed to be "free".

Who is paying for that?

Who is paying for the Trumpy's crashed economy?

@#23 ... How much will a vaccine cost and who is paying for it? ...

Not a vaccine, but...

www.bloomberg.com

...Gilead Sciences Inc. said it will charge the U.S. government and other developed countries $390 per vial for its coronavirus-fighting drug remdesivir, or about $2,340 for a typical five-day course of treatment....

People will not wear masks and call it free speech, regardless of how much sense wearing one makes.

and that's where private property rights come in. Kick them TF out of your business. Expect business insurance to start mandating masks for employees and customers/guests.

Then it needs to be criminalized, like not wearing a seat belt.
Probably a better example is not putting a child in a car seat, since it's your failure to comply which increases risk of harm to others, i.e. the child.

The problem with this is that it leaves the onus of refusing entry to low wage employees, with the crazies out there that means verbal and possibly physical abuse to workers who take enough crap from customers on a regular basis.

My wife put signs up at the store she manages but if someone comes in not wearing a mask she doesn't stop them. She instructed her employees to not help them maintain distance and the only interaction will be at the register. Unfortunately that doesn't help other customers in the store but it's pretty much the best you can do with some people.

To Libertarians, that's how it should be done.
Libertarians ought to be the ones screaming loudest to defund the police.
But it's not clear to me if Libertarians think We The People have the right to spread disease.

It would be weird to justify how that right exists in the public space such as a public school, library, or State house, but not in a private space such as a store, private school, or fraternity, since the threat is basically identical in those spaces.

She died because the police killed her.

She was pulled over on a pre-text stop, a minor traffic violation. Failure to signal. Turning mask laws into a similar violation means more pre-text stops. The loophole the Oregon County is attempting is "it's for everybody except black people". Which puts a disproportionately population at much more risk and effectively segregates them politically. Tough times for social justice in an authoritarian world.

Why was Oregon County brought into this discussion?
It's not anywhere on this thread, or in the article, and Sandra Bland was in Waller County, TX.

The govt and the media were clearly misleading the public early on when they were telling us masks were counterproductive. It was clear they were trying to save the good masks for hospitals.
Wear a mask. Make a mask. Wear a mask. The stuff obviously wafts in the air. Make a mask. Wear a mask outside your home.dont wait for someone to give you a supply for free.
