Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, July 02, 2020

As if the death toll of COVID-19 weren't bad enough, a new study estimates that the true number of U.S. fatalities linked to the pandemic is up to 28% higher than the official tally.

The JAMA study doesn't describe a 18% spike in deaths figure quoted by Fox News. It appears that Fox took a different angle on the numbers. The linked story is a source that more accurately reported the important conclusions published by the authors of the research.

And people are clamoring for this to increase? Nothing is going back to normal until we have a vaccine.

Anybody hear about China implementing their Phase III vaccine trial? Instead of going through the typical Phase III process, they will provide vaccinations to large segments of their military.

Should this work, China will be ahead of the rest of the world, providing them a major boost in their geopolitical standing even when facing blame for the viruses initial spread.

An 18 percent increase in US deaths is not enough to justify interrupting MB's workout schedule at the gym.

75 percent, maybe.... naw.

Eh. Who cares. Open it up and let Gawd sort it out!

Meh. Do a Google search for research about higher numbers and then do one for research about lower numbers. You will get evidence that both sides are correct. The only thing we can know for sure is that there is no way to know if covid numbers are real. Yet both sides still want to only use the evidence they like and report it like it's a plague or not a concern.

Just like the Tobacco Institute has research that smoking doesn't cause cancer.

Remember when we invaded Iraq the first time, and George Bush said, "if we erred, we erred on the side of democracy."

Which side are you planning to err on?

There is good evidence on both sides!

When I google the moon landing I get good evidence that it happened like NASA said and good evidence that it is fake and that it never happened!

I just don't who to believe because I never read a book or went to school and don't know what is real!

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge. - Isaac Asimov

It isn't "evidence" simply because it comes up in a Google search...

Hate to bring this up, and I hope it's not a trend, but deaths in the U.S. spiked on June 26th (very high) and July 1st looking like that negative slope for fatalities due to COVID-19 might be heading up.

#11 As cases rise, deaths will rise. It's just automatic. What's really bad is if hospitals get overrun - the death rate will no longer sit at 5%.

#13 - exactly. We're already seeing hospitalizations rise, and though we have better treatments now than at the start, it seems inevitable that there is going to be a spike in fatalities over where we were. Beside that, though, younger people are being hospitalized now, and though they may fare better, they are occupying beds. All that can impact needed resources for all the medical events we always have going on.
