After several months of mixed messages on the coronavirus pandemic, the White House is settling on a new one: Learn to live with it.

I wondered when this would happen.

It's analogous to the "yeah he did it, but there's nothing wrong with it" stage of the rest of his scandals.

.. Learn to live with it. ...

That sounds more like his campaign rallying call.

If Pres Trump winds re-election, he'll say, "Learn to live with it," just as we have been doing for nearly fuor years now.

The rest of the world has effectively eliminated the virus

Only Donnie Dumpsterfire has made sure it spreads like wildfire across America.

Worst president, ever.

Biggest failure by a president, ever.

One of the highest American death tolls for any president.

We all need to learn to live with this dumpster fire in the most powerful office in the world.

Until we can replace it with a human in November.

#6 | Posted by donnerboy at 2020-07-04 01:59 PM | Reply

Unfortunately, Trump couldn't be replaced before January. I fear that he's going to go full scorched-earth if he loses the election. Trump could do a lot of damage between November 4th and January 20th.

"Learn to die with it," is more like it.

But hey, you have permanent lung, kidney or liver damage from the virus? "Learn to live with it!"

Worried about your elders, and your family who have autoimmune diseases...and yourself? "Learn to live with it!"

I'm so glad we didn't elect that nasty woman. This is so much better.

Trump administration is writing the perfect Biden ad. "Just live with it?" Hilarious! Just live with Trump would be just as effective. Run that slogan, it is political suicide.

@#10 ... This disease is not something we can ignore. We need to realize its going to be with us for a long time, so we need to learn everyday precautions. ...

If Pres Trump really thinks it is not something we can ignore, they why does he seem to take such a lackadaisical attitude towards the health of Americans who have been, are, and will be subject to it?

Why does he ridicule those who try to mitigate the disease? Why does he chastise those who try to prevent the disease from spreading?

Pres Trump's words and actions do not seem to substantiate the rationalization attempt in your comment

Good thing the death rate is down:

Florida set another daily record for new infections, reporting 11,458 confirmed cases. The state has reported multiple daily records since late June, and the rate of positive test results has climbed into the double digits. Only New York has tallied more cases in a single day, with 11,571 on April 15.

Florida:
The death rate has been increasing since June 17th.
see "Daily new deaths":
along with the hospitalizations, June 7th. (10 day lag to fatality)
see "New daily hospitalizations"
the increase in positive cases started June 1st. (6 day lag to hospitalization)
Infection to positive test (or symptoms) ranges from 3-6 days, IIRC.

www.orlandosentinel.com

The time from initial infection to fatal outcome may have decreased. Early on it was 23 days. The mortality rate is lower than the start of the pandemic. That is credited to drug therapies, more intelligent application of ventilators (tolerating hypoxia longer), and the shift towards younger patients.

Based on the new cases and the extreme peaks we've been seeing it's going to be about 2 weeks before we see how these current peaks are going to translate into hospitalizations and fatalities.

It looks like Hospitals in Florida better start getting ready though.

"'We need to live with it': White House Readies New Message on COVID"

No, we don't. We just need a president who gives a ------ about mitigating the pandemic here. Instead, he's minimizing.

We're in the boat we're in because of his early denials about the potential threat COVID posed here. When finally forced to acknowledge COVID was a problem, he played games with PPE and still asserts it will go away on its own.

Our national supply chain for absolutely necessary PPE is a mess. Something he's played games with for political reasons.

NONE of this was preordained and needed to be this way in the U.S. Only Trump's failed leadership is to blame.

Perhaps, but as part of their "We will do whatever it takes to get reelected" plan, if that's what it was going to take, so be it. From Trump's point of view, considering how much there was to be made, what's a few thousand lives, particularly if it's mostly poor and colored people as well as those who are too old and sick to even be counted on voting any more.

This was already the message coming from Missouri's fill-in, useless governor. He's basically punted all responsibility and has put it back on the people of the state. And like so many other GOP led states our numbers are skyrocketing since reopening business. It's already clearly a failed policy but it's also exactly what I would expect a failed president like Trump to adopt.

There are more options than just being a total dick. But I don't think that ever occurs to dicks

Because they are dicks

One option would be to unify Americans in a time of crisis by coming together to solve these problem
Another is putting an end to QAnon and other stupid right wing fantasy's living in the ------- heads
Another option would be to actually lead, by example.

Trump's abject failure with respect to Coronavirus looks to me like a re-election strategy. By "leaving it to the states" and politicizing things like closures and masks, he is intentionally dividing America in the hopes that he can make people actually trying to do something about the virus look like totalitarians and get anyone who doesn't like that to come over to his side.

Thanks Republicans.

Americans may be forced to live with COVID-19. 100% due to the ineptitude and inaction of Trump and his administration.

But, the rest of the world is deciding whether they need Americans.

Just went and checked up on Joe's strategy since I'm going to end up voting for it anyways.

Testing, bailouts, daily white house reports, CDC surveillance, develop vaccine. Vaccine's in there 12 times. Super hot on that one.

Words not in it: Eradicate. Flatten. Curve. Lockdown.

Learn to live with it then.

I know! Trump let the infection spread and now we have to get people to actually be responsible?

Trump made the virus political. Now we have to deprogram people. Convince them to care about other people.

Empathy is learned. But, not something Trumpubliklansmen value. They see it as a weakness. They, like Trump, only care about themselves. And perhaps their attractive daughters.

Empathy is dangerous for a certain sort personality. If you feel empathy then you might have to break down and give someone something: time, thought, money, Better to have no feelings than to part with something.

Does anyone remember that presidential debate (2012?) where Republicans yelled approval at people dying because they couldn't afford medical care?

Once it has run its course and becomes just another virus our bodies either fight off or need a shot to defend against, we will be living with it. My estimate is that Dems will immediately learn to live with it once Biden wins in November. Funny how that works.

"Trump let the infection spread"

It's a shame there is no way for people to have free will and choose to do something based on the risk it presents. It must suck to be a Dem and live in fear because you feel every aspect of your lives should be controlled and anything that isn't specifically made illegal is something that should be ignored. It's almost as if Trump didn't let the infection spread...and people all over the world have let the infection spread. But, what do I know, I only live in reality. Also, even if something is illegal, Dems don't care anyways as long as their opinion differs, then they actively try to get people to ignore the law. Or, worse yet, they try to get rid of police. So, if Trump were to press harder using his position's power...who would enforce it? The people you want to defund?
