At least 12 counties in Texas announced they will not be enforcing a statewide face mask mandate declared Thursday by Governor Greg Abbott. Meanwhile, public health officials in Texas reported 7,555 new positive cases of coronavirus on Friday, bringing the state's total to 183,532.

I wonder what Trump will have to say about 'Law & Order' in those 12 counties where the sheriffs are going to be ignoring the law. Isn't that anarchy? According to what Trump said last night, this disdain for the rule of law is the result of leftest-socialistic theories being taught in our public schools. I suspect that these lawless counties is NOT what Trump had in mind when he was throwing out the 'red meat' last night.

Texans who "exercise wisdom and sound judgment" are about as common as walking fish. And yes, there are some. But look at who they elect.

No gathering in crowds greater than 15, 20, 50 people. Must wear masks. Keep social distancing. Warnings followed by citations will be given.

Join us for a protest. Over 1000 people expected. Wear a mask. Police are expected to be there to make sure everyone is safe. Although social distancing is wise, no citations or warnings will be given.

#3 Did you miss the tear gas, rubber bullets and arrests at many protests?

Do you support rubber bullets and bayonets being deployed to disperse crowds in churches?

Did you miss citations are not being issued at protests but are for other gatherings?

Do you support citations to all gatherings that violate the instructions from authorities?

@#3 ... Police are expected to be there to make sure everyone is safe. ...

Safe from what? COVID-19?

If so, then they will be enforcing the face mask requirement, no?

biased reporting.

The order said that if there were fewer than 20 cases, they were exempt. This county had fewer than 20 cases so how can they be defying the mandate

when they are actually following the mandate ?

Judge Becky Wilbanks of Cass County decided not to enforce Abbott's mandate because her county has fewer than 20 positive cases of coronavirus. "If our active case number reaches the 20 mark, we will then automatically be under the governor's order," Wilbanks said in a Friday Facebook post.

the following is a lie !!

"decided not to enforce "

as is the Newsweek headline when they write, "Counties Won't Enforce Governor's Face Mask Mandate" and include Cass County.

@#10 ... the following is a lie !! ...

Local reporting seems to say that the Judge "opted out" of enforcing Gov Abbott's mandate.

Probably much ado about little, as the article goes on to say ...

... However, Wilbanks said that directives from state officials have been "ambiguous."

"Basically, we have navigated by 'the seat of our pants' trying to do what is in the best interest of our residents for their health and well-being based on the information we are given," Wilbanks wrote. ...

While I'm not sure what is "ambiguous about Gov Abbott's mandate, it seems the Judge has created for herself a rather large loophole to climb through.

Quite frankly, I'd be more concerned about the spread of COVID-19 in those counties than I would be about nit-picking wordings of headlines.

The number of cases in a county is a trailing indicator. Once you see cases, it may be too late to prevent the spread.

So what I'd be more concerned about is why aren't all Texans mitigating COVID-19?

If they had done so weeks ago, Texas would not be in the mess they are currently in.

Jesus, just wear a mask. It's not like we're asking you to bathe.

I am in one of those counties. Local comments online regarding the refusal to wear a mask include (I am not making this up):
-Masks do not prevent the spread of disease
-Telling me to wear a mask is tyranny
-I heard that local doctors say masks are worthless
-The CDC lied earlier this year so I do not believe anything anyone says about masks
-Thank God for our sheriff who stands up for FREEDOM
-Almost no one gets really sick from this virus

This is the result of Trumpism, folks. Sick of the "winning," yet?

Rhet:

The judge sort of lied out her hiney. Cass County Texas has had 50 cases, and you could have seen that for yourself here:
www.worldometers.info
I say "sort of," because the claimed number of active cases is (in the instance of Cass County, 8 claimed) as we know by now, mostly guesswork.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." - Isaac Asimov

Some Texas County Sheriffs are inclined to be little Dictators anyway; enthralled with the Posse Comitatus mentality.

Perhaps when they realize that it is likely that the virus is airborne and can linger indoors anywhere they will change their minds about taking precautions... ok, who am I kidding.

The is a Dem hoax and all the dead are crisis actors... very dedicated ones.

I honestly do feel sorry for the folks in those counties who aren't ignorant fools and there are some but they live in a place where ignorant fools rule. I do have sympathy for those poor folks who live there while disagreeing with the idiots who are your majority.

Trump doesn't care if his followers (off the cliff)

Houston's ICUs are full.
Dallas and Austin are near capacity.
Two other counties are having to ship COVID patients out because they are full.

And this is the reason why.

The KS governor gave counties the option to follow or not follow her mask order. The more populated counties are following...but the rural counties with very few cases if any are not.

Rural counties with very few cases...for now...

This thing started in urban areas with high international travel and has only now spread to more rural states in their more urban areas because they ignored distancing and mask use. It's slowly creeping into the more rural areas as we speak.
