Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, July 05, 2020

President Trump, in a speech Friday at Mount Rushmore that lasted more than 40 minutes, focused on statues and "cancel culture," and accused his political opponents of fascism. But he spared just a few words for the pandemic that has killed 130,000 Americans, thanking "the doctors, nurses and scientists working tirelessly to kill the virus." And that was it.

President Dunsel has surrendered to the virus and is instead focusing his very limited energy on protecting monuments to our racist past.

This is what happens when you let racist Tucker Carlson set campaign strategy.

It's going to be a while. Take care of yourselves, especially those with loved ones who are immunocompromised and those who are immunocompromised themselves. Even if you aren't aware of anyone close to you whose life you'd put at risk by contracting and passing along the virus, be responsible and wear a mask, socially distance, and limit your exposure with others. You might just safe a life or two, including your own.

Doesn't matter to Trumptards. It could be a million deaths and they will bleat one or more of the following:
*China's fault!
* Dear leader was distracted by the hoax!
*Look, there was a riot in Minnesota!
*The death rate is lower, so who cares?
*Stocks are up, so that proves Trump is a genius!
*They are destroying our racist monuments, er, our heritage!
*He works harder, longer, faster, deeper than any other man in the history of the world!

The beaches were full of Republicans this weekend.

According exit polls, only Republicans were seen at the beaches, not wearing masks, not keeping distance.

Oddly, this is a bad thing to do.

All other political parties avoided the beaches.

In other news, Republican college students are contracting the virus. Not one non-Republican has been infected.

According to investigators, only Republicans are out in public, not wearing masks, not social distancing, spreading covid.

If anyone gets covid that isn't Republican, you are told to call the police to get them out of your home.

Former Trump official Tom Bossert: face masks "are not enough"
www.axios.com

...Former President Trump Homeland Security Advisor Thomas Bossert sounded the alarm on the rapid spike in the spread of the coronavirus in a series of tweets Sunday, saying that "masks are not enough."

Why it matters: It's a different tone than much of the Trump administration, as cases are spiking in a number of states around the country. Trump baselessly claimed during his Independence Day remarks that 99% of coronavirus cases "are totally harmless." ...

Why is it that hen Trump officials leave the administration, most of them seem to regain the mental ability to think again?

Economists Agree: Democratic Presidents are Better at Making Us Rich. Eight Reasons Why.
Democratic administrations over the last century have delivered far faster economic growth. What explains that?

1. Wisdom of the Crowds. Democrats' dispersed government spending " education, health care, infrastructure, social support " puts money (hence power) in the hands of individuals, instead of delivering concentrated streams to big entities like defense, finance, and business.

Those individuals' free choices on where to spend the money allocate resources where they're most valuable " to truly productive industries that deliver goods that humans actually want.

Blaming this on Cuomo and nursing homes is idiotic. We've been through this, and I informed you about Seattle, the state of knowledge at the time, how the disease made it into the Seatltle Nursing Homes, how it ravaged Florida's early on and other State's. I'm not letting Cuomo off the hook for bad decisions, but I'm not stupid enough as you are to blame what happened in NY on that.

And you can't run away from Trump's incompetence and deadly decisions - which you avoided.

It is amazing, isn't it? You bring up blue states and the horror they experienced, paving the way for better outcomes in red states, all over a disease that Donald Death says is harmless to 99% of the population.

STC - I hope the deaths decrease, but today in Florida St. Pete and Tampa are out of ICU beds. Miami is now out of ICU beds. Anyone that can read a graph and understands the lag between positive test results, hospitalizations, and fatal outcomes would be cautious in making predictions about the fatality rate.

Hours after an FBI warning about QAnon is published, a QAnon slogan turns up at Trump rally

QAnon, for those not familiar, is a sweeping conspiracy theory that posits that Trump's position as president serves primarily as a vehicle for him to carry out a global battle against pedophilia. (It's an evolution of the late-2016 "Pizzagate" movement that focused on quickly debunked theories about abuse at a D.C. pizza restaurant.) QAnon centers on an anonymous figure called Q, who they say sends sporadic messages to adherents implying that he's positioned within the White House and that the dam of prosecutions for sex crimes is about to burst. Q's predictions are offered in the nebulous, hard-to-verify way that you might expect from a carnival fortune teller.

A Getty videographer at the Cincinnati rally captured images of a number of other QAnon adherents, identified by homemade or mass-produced shirts with large Qs or the abbreviated version of the slogan Straka shared: WWG1WGA. QAnon believers are now common at Trump's rallies. When Trump pointed to a baby in a Q onesie at his rally in North Carolina last month, the baby's family became mini-celebrities within the Q community.

"You said that a month ago, two weeks ago and yet again a week ago - and you have been wrong EVERY TIME. Do you know the definition of insanity? You may be different than the average leftist and actually may want death to decrease - most of the left does not. They want COVID to ravage the red states so their incompetent blue state governors look slightly better. Sorry, that is not going to happen."

I'm getting sick and tired of seeing this accusation directed at people on the left who are legitimately concerned about the rising number of Covid-19 cases. Many of us know people who have had the coronavirus, and some of us know someone who has died from it, which makes this hateful claim doubly offensive.

#56 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2020-07-06 09:29 AM | Reply

Thank you, Gal.

He's also wrong.
Last week when I noticed the uptick in deaths in Florida I said it looks like the upswing had started and to watch it.

What I said previously is there is a 2-4 week delay, with an average of 23 days and to watch and be careful making pronouncements about the death rate decreasing. I said I expected it wouldn't be as bad as it was at the start because of treatments and because of the shift in age of those that are becoming infected but the rates will go up, just based on hospitalization numbers alone.

Nothing has changed in my assessment. No wishing it would be different is going to make it different, either.

And I would be GLAD to be wrong.

Trump did not tell Cuomo to put COVID patients into nursing homes.

They were recovering patients and needed to be removed from the hospital, which carries significant risk for hospital-acquired infections.

Trump didn't tell Cuomo to keep the subway running.

NYC shuts down entirely without the subway. That's not a viable option.

Trump didn't tell Cuomo to go on live TV and tell people to go to Chinatown.

I've seen this stupid nonsense before. What does it have to do with COVID? It was extremely early on in the pademic...

Trump didn't tell Cuomo to let rioters go on for weeks uninterrupted.

Stats so far indicate there wasn't a significant level of spread in the protesters, with positive test rates being similar between protesters and the general population.

NYC is on Cuomo and the liberal morons in NYC that could not demonstrate common sense.

Meanwhile, you look the other way for a POTUS who still denies the virus is a serious situation. Therefore, your opinion is beyond worthless on this.

Also, "common sense" is almost always code for "bullsh--".

"You may be different than the average leftist and actually may want death to decrease - most of the left does not. They want COVID to ravage the red states so their incompetent blue state governors look slightly better. Sorry, that is not going to happen."

to:

"The only person who seems to want more death is Trumpy and the deplorables."

is a false equivalency in my book, but it obviously isn't in yours. However, I'm sure you can find a better example somewhere.

There is some doubt on their part to the accuracy of the numbers.

They should get off their couches and go to the hospitals, do some investigating.

"84
But you're obviously not sick and tired of such inflammatory and untrue statements applied to people who do NOT want more death.
Which is why I challenged you on your statement in the first place."

No, I don't see the two statements as being interchangeable. Based on their behavior, it seems Trumpy and the deplorables don't care if more people die. The catch is, they don't see the connection between their actions and any future deaths. Saying that is not the same as saying: "They want COVID to ravage the red states so their incompetent blue state governors look slightly better."

Do you think any Trump supporters want more death?
#82 | POSTED BY EBERLY

Trump supporters deny there is any death.

It's all a hoax. The numbers are cooked. It's Democrats trying to destroy Trump by destroying the economy. The whole world is in on it. If you blame Trump for anything you're a China loving commie.

If Trump supporters don't want more death, they sure have a weird way of going about it.

It's more than that in some cases. I've seen people interviewed who don't know anyone who has had the virus or died from it, and aren't questioning the accuracy of the numbers. They think the whole thing is a hoax.

I'm going to take a moment to refute the accusation made against me by STC.

On this thread I said: "Anyone that can read a graph and understands the lag between positive test results, hospitalizations, and fatal outcomes would be cautious in making predictions about the fatality rate.

STC came back with:
You said that a month ago, two weeks ago and yet again a week ago - and you have been wrong EVERY TIME

I checked my post history and the earliest statement was June 19th (I went back to May 15th). Even if you want to be strict about my "~3 weeks" (which means about 3 weeks, and I've generally said the average is 23 days), then from this post's date we're looking at July 10th before we see the increase happening, which I hope will be LOW. I would also LOVE to be wrong:

Who's "we"?
Deaths lag by ~3 weeks.
Even a rudimentarily look at the graphs show you're not correct.
Your words "BLM riots" is stupid.
Your attempt to link the protest to the incredible rise in COVID-19 cases is laughable.
Your statement on the "efficacy of stay at home orders" being "unknown" is also stupid.

You literally have everything wrong, and are so transparent in trying to blame the wrong things for the increase (which you conversely say is down "72%" but isn't) is insulting to anyone that has any intelligence.

FACT: The peak in the US was 32,150, the current number of new cases is 25,675. That is not down 72%, that is down 20%. A HUGE difference. The biggest contributor to the reduction are states that already hit their peak and are still practicing masking and social distancing.
{inflammatory rhetoric removed}

Don't care? Won't care? More accurate.

And that is actually based on their behavior and conduct towards COVID thus far.

Whereas citing stats and discussing their caveats is most certainly not cheering for more deaths for partisan purposes.

Citation necessary.

The only person who seems to want more death is Trumpy and the deplorables.

Calling it a hoax. Denying the seriousness of the virus. Storming capital buildings to demand the quarantine be lifted. Refusing to wear face masks. Denying death counts.

All seem to add up to: Trump and the deplorables want more death.

Eberly. Read what Clown actually said. Follow what's going on. What Trump's done at his rallies.

Explain how Trump doesn't want more death. Explain it to me, Eberly. Explain how his sycophants aren't totally good with more death themselves - all preferable to doing what's right, wearing masks, socially distancing, etc.

Once they start wearing masks, socially distancing, then they in their minds have acknowledged they've been wrong and used by a man that doesn't care one whit about them. They'd be right.

Trump only cares so much as he can get them to vote for him. Even if more die. He doesn't care.

It's in every action and inaction he takes.

So explain how that's wrong. Thanks.

You strawman is garage, Eberly.

I've been in "safe at home" mode for months. I stopped going out when this started.
I was all about the CDC recommendations - taking them at their word, but even then I was using a face covering (bandana and gainers) when I went out. As the CDC guidelines changed, I pushed them and adopted them.

I haven't changed at all. I've been all over Trump for destroying the message from his own COVID-19 task force.

Also I never said "redneck bastards wanting more death" - what I said is that when Trump holds a rally and people attend, no masks, sitting next to each other, and when Trump sends in his people to remove the signs from seats in a church that say "keep empty for social distancing" then he doesn't care if you live or die, and if you participate knowing how to stay safe then you don't care either.

And I don't know where you think I live, but I will tell you this, the numbers here are skyrocketing and the Trump supporting dumbasses are the ones that are still refusing free masks at Whole Foods.

The reporting on COVID is misleading. The number of cases is not the most critical factor instead the two most critical factors are the number of hospital admissions and the number of deaths. When the lockdowns first started it was concerns that the number of cases would all hit at the same time so that hospitals could not handle the cases. This should still be the main concern and is a local problem not a national problem. It was not claimed that the total number of cases spread over time would be decreased. COVID is a serious disease easily spread and will kill some people. People who have a mild or moderately severe case in effect are vaccinated with one major exception. For a period of time they can spread the disease to others. When things open up cases will increase and deaths will increase. Whenever the opening up happens the result will not change until a vaccine is developed, but it is not certain one will be found. There is no vaccine for the common cold and even with a flu vaccine people still die from the flu. When things open up older people with preexisting conditions may decide to self quarantine. If locally things start getting our of hand local officials can require distancing and masks. Masks primarily protect the wearer from spreading the disease
